  • Long before the current overlanding trend, Loren and Patricia Upton went around the world, Pole to Pole, in their 1966 Jeep CJ5, picking up a Guinness World Record for the first all land crossing of the infamous Darien Gap along the way. Learn more about the little Jeep that could and the Uptons incredible journey in this video produced by Mad Media for the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of off-road. Visit ORMHOF's display of vintage off-road vehicles inside Terrible's Casino in Jean, Nevada, just south of Las Vegas off I-15. The display is always open and admission is free. back in the early 1990's i was able to see the Uptons in Lynnwood Washington to see a presentation of their travels. at that point i'm not sure if they had been through Africa yet. amazing couple and the truest extreme adventurists.

I was delighted to see this video. I have a Mahindra Thar Crde 4x4 based on CJ5 which resembles the Jeep in the video. I simply love the machine. There's a whole lot fun when you drive a CJ5.

Just saw the shovel strapped to the radiator support rods. Pretty cool. First time I have seen or heard of this Jeep/expedition. Oh yeah, I’m 6’7 with a ‘77 CJ5. Feel your pain.
