  • Come along as we ride the ferry to Mackinac Island, Michigan where we stay at the historic Grand Hotel. We will give you a hotel room tour and show you the spectacular views from the world's longest porch. We also take a ride on a horse drawn carriage on our journey through town to the Grand.
I've included some photos of the inside of the hotel at the end of the video. Video filmed June 2016

As I rewatch this video for the umpteen millionth time, I think my favorite thing about it is watching you go to the island for the first time and experiencing your excitement with you! My first trip of the year will be here very soon.

Dear Rae-Ann, Peace & joy. You my dear have blessed me with your visit to Grand Hotel. Why, because you came with the eyes of a child and the heart of a woman who was fulfilling her dream of visiting. Not everyone who visits Mackinac Island 'gets it'. You did, and for that I am grateful. The room you were in was originally meant for luggage storage and the servants who accompanied the wealthy... they didn't get the 'view' rooms, and the rooms were by nature smaller and not as elegant. I had to laugh at your reaction to the bathroom... not too many years ago (as time is marked on the Island) you probably would have been right and there wouldn't have been a shower... heck there wouldn't have even been a bathroom in the room... you would have found a chamber pot under you bed and a key to the community bath down the hall. That's what I love about Mackinac Island, it is so easy to embrace history (but with the modern 'necessities' we have all come to enjoy). As far as the décor, come back during the 'closing of the Grand Hotel' The rules are more relaxed (dress code especially) and any rooms that are NOT rented are left unlocked... and you are encouraged to explore them all, I especially like that the morning of the closing, all the rooms are empty and though the beds aren't made... you are free to wander until they kick you out until spring. I am a farm wife from a rural area of Michigan, and I watch my $$s but I have NEVER felt that I have over paid for the experience I receive at Grand Hotel... it is my hope that you too feel the same way. Next time let me know when you are going to be there... we can do the history tour together. Thank you for a mid winter break from the snow blowing outdoors to Michigan's Summer Place and one of our National Treasures. *U* Kathleen

Thank you, Kathleen, for giving us a little bit of history into the rooms. The winter closing you speak of sounds really interesting! I would love to take a peek in all of the rooms. I absolutely loved every single minute of my time on Mackinac Island and my time at the Grand Hotel. I loved the views from the porch, the carriage rides, shops, quaint cottages and especially riding bikes around the island. I agree with you, it is worth every single penny! Thank you for your kindness.

Hi Jenny. The rates are different depending on the view you have, but they run approx. $360 and up I believe. The ferry ride is about 15 minutes and so beautiful!!!

It really does! But I will say it has a certain charm and history to it even though the colors aren't what you see in today's hotels. I just wasn't expecting that much red and green when I opened the door! Thanks for watching.

That's an ugly room. That wall paper was giving me a headache And a bad view I'd ask for another room. 🙄I'm sure they paid a pretty penny
