When I listen to this song I think about a prince and a poor girl who's from a different country and is a slave of the. One day the girl catches his attention and he catches her attention. He secretly invites her over to the palace, where he obviously lives. Because she is poor limos, lights and even the simplest things like ice cream are just a few of the things she enjoyed with him. When Lana says "everything looks better from above" and aqua marine she is describing the palace itself. When Lana sings "beat boxing" "singing jazz and blues" the prince would visit every now and then the wrecked home where the girl lived and he would beat box with the other poor people. When it gets to the part Lana sings "dying by the hand of a foreign man" I think about the prince's parents (the king and queen) finding out that that he's been talking and hanging out with this girl who he genuinely loves. Because during summer it never rains it's a sign that they're love was special and different. Every time she was near The castle/palace he would call her name to sneak her inside. The king gives his son orders to kill her or he'll do it himself, but he doesn't want to and as the music's start slowing down all there moments they shared are slowly fading away because she ends up getting killed. The man crying in the background is the prince who until this days considers her his first true love. She loved him as well, he was her summer love, both first and last love.
