That switch kick is a thing of beauty, damn.. feel bad for jiri thouhh
yeah dude looked like fish out of water in this second fight with pereira
Regardless of who won , we all knew there would be a knockout. There is no way this fight would last too long
Heâs done this b4 in kickboxing. He just has a feel for the killshots
For a guy that big to move that fast, he is monster. That switch kick was lightning quick
Luke has been working hard for the past two days
Well done. Great job
nah jay behind the scenes does literally EVERYTHING. haha luke eatit. remember me? ef yw
After your Alex v Hill breakdown, I couldnât stop watching Alexâs hand fighting in this fight.. so key.
Strangely, JIri has been a practitioner of that hand fighting, using that yardstick. You see it here, he's the one doing a lot of it. It didn't work for Pereira in the first fight, because Jiri uses the method.
Pereira is like the real life Sagat. I wish we could see a young Lyoto fight him.
Yes!!!!!!!
The hook was an insane arm punch, he generates so much power
It's a check hook.
The kick was so quick. Everyone (including Jira) was surprised
Need to watch this while it's hot. It won't be here next week.

I absolutely love these breakdown videos Luke does.
JIri was still dangerous, despite being in the wilderness. Alex's study and implementation of tailoring his fight to shutting Jiri, the fighter, down, the tactics, the ruthless focus, not being rattled or deterred or distracted... Phenomenal. And that he didn't try to deal with what Jiri was doing, as it's being done, that shutting it down when any of classic Jiri methods presented, before it could get started. And Jiri's failing, aside from not having more caution with a renowned left hook, defensively, was not having a different style, certainly nothing drilled to feel natural, to fall back to. It was awful to watch, because it ended up being this horrible demolition job, the helplessness Alex created, even as we can see, Jiri still, can find gaps and hit you.
Jiri has everything he needs to be champion, to be an undefeated champion, except for adaptability when someone understands him. So much success, why change? Alex may be the best thing to happen to him, to see that he's put so much effort into areas that the moment he can't use them, he has nothing, especially against someone so skillful and smart. And Alex... never stops learning and pushing and adapting and changing.
All the "but a grappler" crowd... Alex is learning going for the guillotine hold is a waste of time. He's done it enough to find that out... finally more confidence to do more to thwart the takedown. He's changing before our eyes, has been for two years.
The only flaw in Alex... you get him the first time when he's not as confident or sure of what you are about. But Alex doesn't have low hands anymore. He caved. Jiri has to cave. You can't read everything, and the mastery, I'm convinced, is understanding and avoiding your opponent's strengths. Alex showed a remarkable version of that.
thank you! hopefully your video doesn't get taken down.
Always got the best technical breakdowns
your technical difficulties serie is really enjoyable
Luke - I challenge you to find 7 significant strikes that Jiri landed. Itâs closer to 2
He's just going off the UFC stats website. If you want someone to count the strikes I'm sure The Weasle has that covered

No.
Jack Slack is the best but Luke is one of my faves for sure

Always appreciate your breakdowns LT đż
A masterclass from Alex. And as always the best analysis in CZcams from Luke.
Alex did a great job of popping jiri with a jab to the head when jiri started to lower his head when he does that weird head bobbing/level change thing he tends to do when entering. It cut out a lot of the confusion that jiri creates to make openings for his attacks.
Alex has leveled up after having trained with Steven Seagal earlier this year.
Waiting for Jamahal hill to debunk this video...
Hill is gonna start his video by saying "Luke Thomas is broke, man, I'm here living life, not caring about my loss" then proceeds to rant for 50 minutes since this video is slightly longer than DJ's đ
You know Jamahal Hill is here somewhere, sitting in the front of the class and taking notes.
So funny because it's totally possible Hill has done that.

Love your TechDiff series. Your breakdowns are so educational and enjoyable to watch.
Great content, love these technical analysis
Very good analysis. Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil !
I love these breakdowns. Poatan is an incredible fighter. I think he is a generational fighter. So blessed to witness this man do his thing. Thanks for the breakdown!
Great breakdown. Thx for the work.
Jiri is a very unpolished fighter! What is really remarkable is his pain tolerance and will to fight, but sometimes it seems like he is gambling, throwing things and betting they can do some damage
Yeah kinda street fighter style not pro fighter style
Like tony Ferguson back in the day, wild and chaotic...but it can't last
This! Jiri is literally a bigger, taller Keith Jardine. I got roasted alive on Reddit for this take.
The biggest problem is that you just can't play that game against Alex. His power is unforgiving. Jiri learning about the limits to his reckless style the hard way
Jiri has a similar style as Tony. Both rely on will, grit, toughness and athletic abilities.
Such good videos đ„đ„. I was sad I couldnât find the DDP vs Rob one earlierâŠ
Masterclass analysis, Luke! You will attract more members by putting these videos behind a paywall.

This is great work Luke, poatang is improving the take down defense, he's getting better and better every fight. Where's the lĂmit with this guy? Always learning from your breakdowns thanks đ
YAY!!! Technical Difficulties is back!!!
Thanks for doing these breakdowns Luke! Long live Poatan!
you're the best analyst by far
Top class lukeâ€
If Poatan landed that right hand at 13:16 Jiri would have died on the spot. Go watch the real-time power he threw with!
LETS GO LUKE đ
thank u luke
Awesome, Luke. Slowing down aspects of the fight shows how great Alex is - wow. Guys need to up their defense game against this elite striker.
Here before you get copyright strike. Great breakdown Luke as always.
What I observed is the way Jiri got knocked down at the end of round one he was attempting to set up he right hand like Izzy did.
But the difference is when Izzy did it his right hand was on his chin. He's defensively aware
this situation has nothing to do with the other
This is the only type of content I like by Luke
Top man Luke
Love this
excellent fight breakdown, pereira is amazing striker, very fluid, that body jab is one of his key punches
also to mention the switch for a split second made jiri expect a leg kick then tried to catch the kick and then it was too late and he was already hurt
I think next live chat will be my first super chat. Got to get Luke some sound dampening panels. That echo is promotional malpractice. đđ
Get it while it last!

You are welcome. đ€
These breakdowns are excellent. One thing I'd note is that, if you pause at 22:07 you'll see that Alex's lead (left) leg is closer to Jiri than his right leg (following the switch step) will be.
Hey Luke would love to interview you some time
Props to Alex but this one hurt because I like both of these dudes. Jiri is awesome and it hurts because I know he is capable of so much more than what we saw in this fight.. Hope we see both these guys continue to put on exciting performances
When people say fight break downs this is actually what I want to see. Not just people talking into a camera. 10/10
But man that switch kick was just mean. The switch was so shallow. Alex threw it with both feet basically underneath his shoulders. I canât blame Jiri for not defending it at all. I didnât even see the switch live. From that distance I did not see a lead round kick to the head being possible but Alex found it anywaysâŠ
With such little wind up itâs insane the amount of hip flexor and quad strength this guy has to have to whip that leg up like that from a damn near vertical/square position
It's amazing the natural power that Alex has in his left hook to be able to drop Jiri, and essentially KO him at the end of the first round considering Pereira *_is not even fully planted to the ground_* when he connects. The guy dropped one of the strongest chins in the UFC while on his tippy toes. Terrifying.
CHAMA đ„
Jiri needs total style change. New strategy and tactics. Needs to check those kicks and needs right hand block for Poatan's left hook. Basic beats advanced, simple as that.
Excelente break down ! These UFC so called strikers donât understand . The man is not just your average kickboxer. He is in the Hall of Fame . Double champ . So your not gonna out strike . No one in UFC can .
Professor Luke is hereâŠ
I believe that Poatan Chamanic King will, over time, express himself more in English. US is still the biggest MMA market, and he can do more Work and cinema in the future, he has great potential for that. He is a figure that causes us fans a lot of excitement. But if he doesn't want to do any of that, he doesn't need to make any effort to become fluent in English in the United States. There are entire regions in America where people don't even speak Englishđđđ I'm Brazilian and I know it.đ đđđ
Jiri really did try to change his game plan and I think that was a mistake. He gave Alex some of the most trouble hes seen in the first fight, all he had to do was refine his defense, which he did the opposite by trying to focus on the tactics he thought he needed to use. Still couldn't check a kick and kept trying to keep one hand up at all the wrong times. Alex made phenomenal adjustments, the jab was fucking on point and so was the grappling defense (this is why he bought Glover a Harley, he's been doing work for Alex).
Nobodyâs talking about mirroring technique used by Alex to set up the switch kick
Great breakdown. Truly enjoy your fight breakdowns
This man didn't stop since Alex put Jiri to sleep..hands down
Excellent breakdown!
Let's go Luke that KO was nasty, if they paid me enough I'd fight Ige and Lopes đđ
Why did you put in private the other technical difficulties ?
Watch it before it gets taken down, folks
I wonder if they think like this in the octagon. What if they are just so used to it that its almost automatic and they can now see more.
well its quite simple! bless him, Jiri has literally zero defense, and hes fighting the scariest ko artist the game has ever seen!
People talking about Ankalaev just shut up , his biggest win is Johnny Walker , I say pair him vs Jan Blachowicks winner gets Poatan at MSG card by the end of the year
Apparently Jan is out due to a recent surgery . Ankalaev's most recent wins are Smith and Walker, def not title worthy wins. I do agree the most logical title decider should be Jan VS Ankalaev, considering they had a draw.
Alex should take a nice breather and get himself healed up. He's already defended twice this year. Knowing him, he'll take whatever they throw at him, which will likely be Ankalaev in the fall. He wants to fight as many times in a year as he can, dude has no quit or fear in him.. That's the most detrimental factor to his title reign as well as heavy weight prospects.
IF I were the UFC I'd have booked Jones vs Alex yeterday, that fight would reach Conor levels IMO.
@cineris2389 I don't mind seeing him dispatch Jamahal Downhill back to the shadow realm one more time, or Hill vs Ankalaev for the #1 contender spot
Here comes the ufc copy strikes
It is funny because Luke always insisted he was perfectly within fair use and that's why he never got flagged. Now he got flagged, can't afford to fight it in court, and is in the same position as every other content creator who gets flagged
@DurfMaguinty By that logic, ESPN can't show highlights of NBA games.
@DurfMaguinty No, ESPN shows content from sports that it has zero broadcasting rights to. Think about it.
@lukethomas is not showing video, which is not legal unless you have permission. Heâs showing frame by frame individual pictures, which is legal. He scrolls through the pics, which looks like itâs video but itâs actually individual screenshots of each frame. In US law youâre allowed to use frames of a video for the purpose of analysis without breaking copyright laws. As I understand it.
@@GWFHegel-ms7gzidk they have had the rights to ALOT of sporting events
Chama đ„
Did you all notice Alex did not celebrate this win over Jiri at all ? Itâs like this dude knew exactly how to beat him and was there not to fight but just to execute the plan , like a terminator !
Is AG1 still good for your health?
Jiri was trying to hide the right hand by sticking out the jab. Alex saw that coming from a mile away
Chama
From rhe Amazo.
He is a unique species Human...
Luke - (I know nothing about striking btw) - Pereiras short left hook is like the modern tennis ATP forehand. Limited backswing, hand always on the same side of the body, power from legs/core/rotation. Pretty weird
My home boy Jiri looked much worse in this rematch.. I think he was overthinking everything too much and that is not his style.. Anyway at least I am glad that the guy who is better than Jiri is Alex. Another good guy. So I can deal with it and I am happy for Alex.. Will be interesting to watch what will be next for both of them..
This fight really shows the gap in fundamentals and fight IQ between Poatan and Jiri
Great job sir, CHAMĂ đ€Łđ„
