More green? Well, as someone once said about Odense: how can you put a city here, it's a forest!? But it makes a nice mix of city and village (Odense is also known as the biggest village in DK). But what do I know, I've lived here in Odense most of my life. 😁

I liked aarhus as well (as a visitor), but expensive/hipster trendy. We liked the botanical gardens. Kopenhagen after 1 week i was glad to get out. Roskilde is lovely too, nice atmosphere. And odense was beautiful, nice parks, hilly. Though the inner city is a bit scattered. With a strange brewery in the center. My son liked aalborg a lot. I didnt go up here. What place did you like most? Or is happiness a state of time, and mind ?

Thanks for the video! I am a Kiwi living in Denmark with my Danish partner and have been living in Copenhagen since March 2020 (yes, that March). My partner comes from Fyn and we have always planned on heading back once her studies had finished. We find ourselves in a similar position as you were at the time you moved. Neither of us have been big city people and we love quiet open spaces and things being less busy. I have always enjoyed going to Fyn to we are very excited to now be making plans to move over this year. We also want out kids (yet to have) to grow up outside of a city to gain more experiences and be closer with my partners wider family (who we enjoy the company of). Since I am so far from my family in New Zealand, it doesn't make sense to not be closer to hers so that has been a driving force to move to Fyn also. Again, thanks for your content and maybe our paths will cross.

First of all. Odense is a wonderful city :) I have lived in Copenhagen and suburbs for many years. It was great. I mean if you want a drink or go to a restaurant you just open your door and walk a few meters. But now I have moved to a small "village". I really enjoy how quiet it is. No neighbor parties keeping you awake all night. No cars making noise etc. I work in Copenhagen so I actually get the best of two worlds (Thanks Hannah Montana). It is like you having one hour to Copenhagen. The diffence is that you get to chose: Lazy at home and hygge in Odense or an one hour trip to experience Copenhagen. I think you chose well

  • @chengifoo7603
    @chengifoo7603 Před 3 lety +6

It really boils down to a personal choice of where you want to live and it is interesting to listen to your perspective of Copenhagen and why you wanted to move away from Copenhagen to somewhere quieter and less busy. When I moved to Copenhagen, my first apartment was near Nørreport station in a protected building built in 1815 with a lovey garden as our backyard. We lived there for 5 years and I still think it is a quiet city. My first impression and still is, it is a big provincial village compared to other cities with its own charm, history and relaxed atmosphere. Now I'm living in Frederiksberg surrounded completely by greenery and it is quiet which I'm already used to it by now:-). But once I get out of my house, Frederiksberg comes alive with its unique blend of energy, a sense of community and togetherness and lends.a certain beauty to it making you feel just right at home. I guess cities do grow on you eventually. Happy to hear that you love living in Odense, a city I have visited and I found it to be a gorgeous city with a rich history and wonderful sights. The most appealing I think with Odense is that it has so much potential to offer - may beat Copenhagen to be the next best city to live it in the years to come :-)!

I was born in West Berlin which was a quiet town but todays Berlin is really, really loud and busy so I moved around a lot (I spent an accumulated year in southern France, 16 months in New Zealand, I lived in 4 of the 16 German states, 7+ years NL...) and ended up in a really small farming village of 2,000 people in the Netherlands very close to Germany and close to Belgium as well. Before the pandemic I would go grocery shopping in Belgium every 3 months or so, lovely French cheese like Caprice and Flanby yummo. I enjoy watching your videos because I was considering applying for a job with a danish company but won't to work from home office in NL actually because I am unsure about moving to Denmark. I moved here about 8 months ago with my Danish boyfriend, currently with his parents on Fyn while saving up for an apartment. We want to live in Odense as well, since it will likely be both of our “study city”. But I am there nearly every day already. We are hopefully going to get an apartment in August, so this is why I’m scrolling through CZcams trying to find helpful tips about getting the most out of your (small) apartment, how to make it affordable (since only he can get SU or student support, I’m not an EU citizen so I cannot), and all other things. I’m really glad I found your channel, you help give me hope that this will work out more than I already think it will 😃

I lived in Odense while I was studying and while my husband was finishing his studies. I always said it was the biggest small town - because it’s a city with a small town vibe. We had the greatest apartment in HC Andersen’s gade, but we wanted to live closer to our parents, so we moved back to Jutland.
Now we live in a small town close to a bigger city which is great when you have younger kids. They feel very safe here and know all the kids at their school. We might move to a larger city when the kids are older, but for now this is perfect.

I walk regularly and see deer; hare, farmyard animals and we had a toad in our tiny pond and we have hedgehogs appear in the Spring. It couldn't be more different from the busy lives we led in the city and we love it. We are well travelled and I am glad I visited exotic countries when I was young. These days we love to visit Europe and in particular we love Scandinavia. Welcome to Odense. We love french people here :-))
I live here and was born and raised here, i lived for a decade in Copenhagen, but Odense is a very speciale place, very charming indeed.
Do you know the saying "Fyn is the Provence of Denmark"?

Ohh but the ties between Fyn and France are there doing the napoleonic wars french soldiers where stationed on the eastern part of the Island.
Some other french curiosities, notice how many hairdressers in Odense use the "couifure" term.
At klingenberg you can have Eclairs, at café Gertruds you'll see the traditional french red Diamond with the Tabac scripture, and they serve moule marinere.
You can play boule at Gartnerbyen and have a glass of wine.
For some more traditional Fyn you can visit løgismose mejeriudsalg in Broby, danish artisanal food produce is sold here, a bit out of the city though.
Let me now if you need assistance.
      Also bring more french people

Welcome to Odense, my home town! I live in Odense, was born here and returned after living in a few other places in DK and abroad. I was actually born and raised just a few km north of Vollsmose - and if you ever go there, I think you will find that the rumours are way exaggerated. There are many ethnicities living there - but I think their shopping centre is one of the best places in Odense to buy vegetables. And I’ve never heard of any car-jackings and things like that. If you ever go to the wonderful little beach town of Kerteminde, you can take the opportunity to drive through there and see for yourselves what it’s like 😊

Salut

I've visited Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense but found the latter the WORST city by far. The library/bus stop is full of loud/unruly non-ethnic Danish children (teenagers) smoking, spitting and generally being aggressive. Be careful. The middle of town is nice and it is bit on the rural side but I wouldn't visit that city again.

My inlaws live in Vollsmose and I’ve worked close by for many years. It’s really not as bad, as it’s made out to be, we find :) Sure there’s troublemakers and noisy kids sometimes trying to intimidate you when you pass by, but day to day life is really not that different. Vollsmose offers great and cheap housing and beautiful nature close by. I’m aware of the gangs, but I have never personally felt unsafe in Vollsmose.
