Nearly note perfect in front of an audience. Not just note perfect but the control of texture, balance, and overall vision. Gaht dayum.

I love the tempo he uses in Scarbo. That really show one doesn't need to be the fastest ever to get the feeling right

I'm so tired of hearing all the fastest possible Scarbo performances. Ravel never wrote "fast as possible." And most pianists obliterate all of his pp and ppp markings. Thank you for your comment.

Michelangeli is a very rigorously inventive pianist. His accuracy is amazing. Furthermore, the arpeggios in the first movement, this virtuoso executed marvelously.

Wow this rendition is incredible, first time hearing it and I find it to be one of his most amazing recording

His slightly slower tempo in Scarbo soooo much better and more musical/lyrical.

The Ondine treatment has such a deep sense of melancholy that was absent in the renditions of the 60s.

The best ABM, the color ABM of the seventies! Superlative interpretation! It's a shame he didn't record it with Deutsche Grammphon... but that's fine too! Thanks for sharing! ;-))

He said that Gaspard didn't work in a studio recording, without the living presence of the public. So he never thought of recording it. Nevertheless this rendition from the Tokyo recital was recorded pretty well.

Finally, a correct tempo of Ondine. Ravel wrote Lent. But it's still a bit too fast. But so clear. And gorgeous sounding. The fast tempos are not right.

Ondine, note perfect as it is, could be more dreamy at the beginning.... (is this blasphemous for a Michelangeli admirer....?) - it sounds like it was a morning performance, wide awake rather than a midnight one....
