Just like when I first saw Star Wars in the theater when it came out this movie was like nothing we had never seen before. The amazing thing is how both movies can still captivate audiences today
That is only true if you didn't watch anime. The matrix leaned heavily on cyberpunk anime/Manga from the 80s and 90s.

As I did in the theatre in 1999, I still get chills when Neo (an anagram of ‘One’, btw) stops the bullets at the end of the movie.
One of those all time movie moments, IMO.
I remember seeing the movie in a preview I decided to go on a whim. (It had the highest admission price I ever paid and never regretted it)
In Trinity's introduction scene, after the jump and first bulletttime, the whole audience applauded.
That and Neo dodging bullets had never been seen before, but was so copied and overused since, so that it became a 'meh' moment later on.
(However, there was a music video at that time, "Underwater Love", in which a series of still photos taken at the same time were morphed together to produce a rotating freeze-frame, which could be said to be the predecessor of this effect.)
_Neo_ also means *new* .
They wanted Jet Lee to play the part of Neo but he couldn't due to filming commitments. He went on to star in the movie The One (irony?) along with relatively unknown Jason Stratham.
"Point Break", "Speed", "Chain Reaction", The Devil's Advocate", "The Gift", "Constantine", "Bram Stoker's Dracula, "47 Ronin", "John Wick 1, 2 & 3" are some good movies with Keanu Reeves

Initially, all the humans didn't make batteries, they made a hive-mind/combined storage-computing thing. Batteries were just a simpler concept.

look at 18:48 Morpheous didnt sweat but Neo sweated.. Because morpheous's mind knows he is in a computer program but Neo's mind instinctively not used to the fact that this situation is not real.. Because of this Neo sweated like in the real world.. :)) So much details.. At that moment, Morpheous try to say, you are in the computer program.. You can be more faster or you can beat the gravity.. You just must change this program's codes like a computer codes..

There is a before and after of the Matrix ,,which revolutionized the history of cinema . The Matrix is , on the other hand ,a profetic film that warns us about the dependence that humans show to have in relation to machines.
Somehow, I missed you watching this movie. I love this movie too. The other 2 movies are good, but this is the best of the 3.

at 27:10 that dejavu scene.. You can think like that.. you are running a program.. if you change any setting at that program, that program tells you restart it right? It's like it.. They are inside a program (matrix).. You are like watching a video and for example at 5:00 at that video, you roll back 5 seconds ago (at 4:55) and watch the same scene (at 5:00) ... You saw a cat, and you saw it again.. They changed a thing at that Matrix program and they rolled back a little time.. :)) ( they changed a door to little guy couldnt escape.. a door became a wall)

Film that made Keanu famous, 'River's Edge' 1986.
We all live in the Matrix, go to work, from work, make money, round and round all our lives, exactly as shown in that movie which has a much deeper idea and only a small percentage of people live freely from a pile of money independent of the system that it is instilled into our heads from elementary school that we just have to work, work and work until we die in order to have some money. It's a picture of today's world. We're not just batteries, but we make money for the small percentage of the "chosen" ones who have enormous power and money to not care about the rest of the people. Few people understood the true meaning of this movie, unfortunately :-/
