@michellehillard5663 Yeah, I think I'll trust our vets. Our dogs are rescues, and we have been told that it's because of previous traumas from past owners. (like I'd trust you over a trained professional) There is absolutely no scientific evidence saying that only happens with none purebreds. That is a myth with absolutely no evidence. It's one of the points in this video as well. To not pick up any adult dog by its scruff. It has nothing to do with being purebred and everything to do with age. Picking a dog up by the scruff is something a mother does to her puppies. Once they age out of being a puppy, you should no longer use the scruff. That goes for any breed and any size.

There's a chronic use of the words literal, actual, and just on the internet that can't be fixed. And this right here is evidence.

All pets prefer having all 4 paws on their person when being carried. It gives them a sense of safety and support.

That’s what i do. With my grandmother’s yorkie, I always put my arm under his rump and my other arm under his front legs. I sort of create a platform that i’m holding him securely while he’s pretty much laying in my arms

Cats and dogs (cats especially) are very keen to protecting their bellys as that's where they are the easiest target for predators. That's why when a cat shows you its belly, it means it trusts you not to hurt it. So the 4 leg on human thing also protects their stomach.

What i have learned in my vet class is to put your arm underneath them so it’s your whole forearm that is carrying them.

Her method works but if you’re working with a “hyper” dog or something like a retriever (which are larger pups), it’s harder to pick them up by the scruff. I used the method you described a it makes sure the dog has support
