  • I had another whole chicken in the fridge and decided to do a different take on this one. I decided to cook at a lower temperature for a longer period of time.
    Prep:
    Chicken Rub
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1/4 cup paprika
    1/4 cup smoked paprika
    1 tbsp black pepper
    1 tbsp sea salt
    1 tbsp chili powder
    1 tbsp garlic powder
    1 tbsp onion powder
    1 tsp cayenne pepper
    1 tsp chipotle pepper
Mix all ingredients in a bowl, save whatever not used
Rinse chicken and pat with paper towel until dry. I used a vegetable oil binder and then applied a generous amount of the rub mixture.
    Cooking:
    Pit Boss Competition Blend pellets
Place chickens on grates breast side up
    225°F for 1 hour
275-300°F until internal temperature of 165°F
Allow chicken to rest for 15-20min
    Thanks for watching and enjoy!

Hi there. Nice video. To control your temperature you need to adjust your “p” settings. That will get you closer to your desired cooking temperature. It takes practice but can easily be done.Ambient temperatures plus wind makes all the difference with these smokers.

Your chicken looks amazing! Would you recommend the Pit Boss 700FB or maybe a different model?

Hey! Thanks for commenting! Great question! I've had my 700FB for just over a month now and I literally haven't touched my oven since then. My question to you is how big of cooks are you planning on doing? Are you feeding only yourself or a big family? Do you plan to cook for parties in the future or just use it for your own pleasures? I recently filled my entire grill for the first time and I was able to fit 4 chicken quarters, 1 rack of ribs, 4 corn on the cob and 2 trays of asparagus (see my channel to see the video). Besides that cook, I have been able to cook everything else quite easily with plenty of room left over. It also depends on how much space you have where you plan on keeping it.
Thanks again, happy grillin' - V

Grillin' with V Thanks for the info! In your video, you mentioned that the temp was about 25° higher than the setting you chose. Is every cook like that with this grill?

I was actually going to save it for another video in the near future, but my grill actually has a factory defect with the control panel. I contacted Pit Boss customer service and they are sending me the replacement part to fix it. This grill is not actually suppose to run like that. So when I do receive the part, I'll do a video describing everything and then my grill should be up and running 100%. So when I actually set it at 225, it will run at 225 like its suppose to.

Grillin' with V That’s good to know Pit Boss has good customer service. I really enjoy your videos! Maybe add a glass of wine or your favorite IPA to your hands while filming! Haha! Cheers from San Diego!

Pit Boss has amazing customer support. I've been pretty happy with everything, even with the defective part, I've learned to work with it. Thank you for the great feedback and support. If you follow me on Insta: foodaddct you will see I have posted drinks. Ill be sure in my next video to mention you and hold a drink in my hand. Cheers and happy grillin'!
