  • In this video we show what we found over 100 times on working with 5.0 Cummins motor thats found in the Nissan Titan XD 2016 - 2020 platform.
    Every crank we found in every year range all looked the same and see the same issue. When we pull the heads we find most of the injectors was miss firing.
    In this motor all pistons was black but piston number 7 and 8 had perfect star spray pattern in it.
    That tells us that other injectors stayed open, and was flooding the cylinders, later on hydro locked motor to point of breaking the crank.
    We show and tell you how we keep finding rips in the wiring of the injector harness, dirty plugs and more. How to fix these small issues.

    Awesome video , its about time someone came clean as to why this is happening,who woulda thunk it was the harness, I always assumed it might have been a metallurgical issue. You deserve a medal from Nissan for figuring it out. I luv my truck but was always worried about the crank issue, this makes me at least feel I can do something to stop it from happening.

I have a question you may be able to answer about mine, it sounds like my truck at 76k miles has a exhaust leak only when cold. is it common that the stock manifolds or turbo gaskets tend to do this on these trucks?

      That's one thing I'll say about the Japanese, they suck at fixing problems. I despiiiiiise Toyota for this very reason and Nissan is a close second. When the 5.6 gassers were grenading they just pretended like it wasn't happening. Customer service is a joke. They refer everything back to the dealer who is incentivized to deny the problems because they have to pay for it out of pocket to fix under warranty and then pray that Nissan will reimburse them. It's a crap way to handle the backend.

      @UnicornGuru isn't this Cummins issue? Which is USA not Japan?

    • @UnicornGuru
      @UnicornGuru Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@thecliffold5879 Yes, Cummins is American, but the engine harness is Nissan. Even though the Titan is unquestionably the most American truck as far as production is concerned, it is still, for better or worse, a Japanese company and they refuse to fix problems or even acknowledge them. Not sure if it's a cultural thing or what, but you can see it across the spectrum of Japanese companies. Even companies like Sony who is notorious for producing stuff that is incompatible with other brands, like sound bars for your TV, will never openly admit that their products are deficient in any way (in my experience). If the Japanese would put some of their ingenuity towards actually sussing out these problems and fixing them, the Titan would be virtually bulletproof.

      @UCy7QrgeYnYgaxc5PZlLy-UQ You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. What the author of this video didn't tell you is that when you hydraulic a cylinder you bend rods and valvs. When a cylinder goes lean It burns A hole in the piston. Did you get massive blow by. When they run rich they dumped soot out the tail pipe and it's got DPF problems.The problem with that engine is they spin main bearings.And it's the spun main bearings that causes that crank shaft the brake. Another problem is people allow modern diesels to idle for too long crank case fills up with fuel. Every single last thing that is related to the engine is Cummings products. I've been wrenching for 40 years.I've been working on nissan's for twenty two years I perform a tremendous amount of warranty goodwill repairs. Nissan buys transmissions on cars up to a 100000 miles.Don't tell me they don't stand behind their product.

    I have a hunch that Nissan new this was the problem for quite a while. My truck started running rough and knocking/shaking real bad, but was under warranty, so I took it in. They said it was a bad wiring harness and I noticed after I got the truck back that the new wiring harness had a wire loom around all of the areas that were ziptied to the engine.

    Sucks to say it but I sold my Titan XD because I had cyl 8 injector go out 2x in 4 months. I asked both times that they look at the harness but Nissan said that it was simply an injector failure even though after it was towed in it magically ran fine for them. I let the dealer I sold it to know what had happened and washed my hands of that truck. I drive by Nissan everyday to work and the service area is full of XDs. Wish it would have run forever but I'm not in the business of paying 2/3 the cost of the truck to replace the engine. I put 100+k miles per year on trucks.

    I've always heard it is from overtowing or not regularly changing oil/fuel filters. So the premise in this video is that it is actually caused by damgae to one of the injectors wiring causing it to overspray?

    Excellent video! Worst engine Cummins ever made hence, they discontinued it and Nissan only used it for 4 years. Broken crank is just one recurring problem. Turbo failures, EGR failures and fuel pump failures just to name a few. I had a 2017 and was meticulous with the maintenance but there's nothing I can do to maintain a turbo other than regular oil changing. After replacing about $5,000 worth of stuff on the engine I traded it in. Even the salesman confirmed that they don't get much for these trucks because the word is out as to what a POS the engine is. The diesel tech at my local dealership (they're becoming rare now) told me the Titans with the Cummins where in their shop regularly for all problems states and all those parts mentioned are on back order because of it.

      Motor isn't the problem. Nissan was only selling 50k Titans a year and maybe 10k of those were diesels. Not enough sales to support the platform. The motor is used in numerous other applications and is a solid Tier 4 platform. When deleted and tuned, they crank out insane power and last as long as any of the awesome diesel motors from years gone by. Instead of praising this man for finding the problem, you came here to complain. Not cool, man.

    How does hydro lock cause enough heat to turn the crank blue?

    • @UnicornGuru
      @UnicornGuru Před 7 měsíci +1

      It doesn't. Injectors are dumping fuel constantly and diluting the oil. Engine runs for a while overheating the crank until it eventually gets hydrolocked and snaps the crank. The bluing happens way before the failure not because of it.

    I'm replacing my '16 Titan Cummins motor with an '18 im ordering off of ebay with 70k miles. i had my crankshaft snap at 104k. it was ezlynk tuned with sotf but i hardly ever went past the +20 tune. I believe the issue was my oil filter slowly leaking oil because after i heard the pop and shut it down, the oil was dripping from the filter and i only drained about 5qt from the motor. It's a dig at the american habit of referring to engines as motors.
      Historically, electric cars were much more common than petrol/gasoline over there, powered by "motors", and the term just stuck.
      It certainly flows better than "engine car" 👍😎
      The irony is that in the UK people call cars "motor cars", or "motors" for short, regardless of what's propelling them.
