  • Mount Blakiston is the highest peak in the Waterton area with an elevation of 2910 meters. After completing Mount Galwey last year, John and I had been looking forward to bagging this peak. Glad we were able to do that. The initial plan I had in mind was to traverse to Hawkins but with camping trip the next day, we did just Blakiston and returned the same way. This was a total grind with an elevation gain of 1430 meters in a distance of 14.58 KM roundtrip as per my recorded tracks in Topo Maps (Canada Maps), so that's about 7KMs going up - really steep 😀. While we started with a clear sky, it did not last for long as it started getting cloudy past 11. When we got to the summit, we did not have visibility of the surrounding peaks at first. The overcast cleared up for a couple minutes, and then the sky was covered by dark clouds again. Luckily it did not rain as forecasted.
Big credit to the GPX we got from Bob Spirko's blog.
