Fishing in the Florida Keys - Shore Fishing in the Ocean - SO MANY FISH!!!! | The Fish Locker

  • Fishing from the shore near our holiday property in Marathon in the Florida Keys I use lessons learned from the previous night and try to catch the monster that got away. I use only basic hand made fishing rigs and tackle brought from the UK to catch big fish and sharks from the beach/shore. Will I land a monster, or will this be the one that got away?
Here are links to some of the fishing tackle I used in this video. I hope it helps.

I have stumbled upon your videos while I am out here on a military deployment in the middle east. I have to say, each one of these videos is both a treat to watch as well as educational. I have been watching over the past week and have learned so much about different fish, techniques, plant life and all kinds of things I never would have thought about learning. Thank you for these videos.

If you guys make it out to Florida again you should check out the Dry Tortugas. There is a ferry that goes out there daily. I took my boy out for an overnight camping trip and it was a pretty cool experience. They allow fishing and the fish are giant out there. Saw a 150-200 pound Goliath grouper under the dock in about 6 ft of water. Also countless huge mangroves, yellowtail and muttons.

Jaws movie "need a bigger boat!"
Fish Locker video "need a bigger bucket!" 😁 Nice upload as usual John. Re those two sharks with extra hooks in them. My youngest daughter lives in Florida. Whenever I been there I've been amazed at how many of the local fishermen just snip off their hooks/rigs rather then unhook. Man that Bonnet Head was just great 👍👍

Nice session there bud. Love the rod rest, handy notches in the back of it to rest the rods. Had to laugh when you explained the different snappers, your Cornish accent really came out, and me being from Devon with a Cornish side of the family it was plain to hear. Really enjoyed the Florida vlogs John. I am glad you didn't get bitten, even the most experienced fisherman can get caught, as you are well aware, caution to be taken at all times when handling fish with a mouthful of teeth or spines, and the skin is like sandpaper. All the best to you, Hanna, and James. Stay safe.

If you’re still down there, go to the head pin at Holliday Isle, that’s where all the fish scraps from the commercial fishermen dump every night and it takes about one minute to get a bite ! My last one there was a 318 pound bull shark “about 100 yards from where everyone swims at the sandbar at low tide lol.

@@TheFishLocker it’s about mile marker 84 in Islamorada, you’ll see all the topless women at the sandbar a couple hundred yards out from the resort at low tide every day (you need a small boat to get there so you can stretch the law a bit I guess). Anyway, not much farther out is the headpin, that’s where all the sharks are lol. There used to be several charter captains in small boats (the size you can rent and captain by yourself right there at the marina) that would take tourists out shark fishing right there at the pin and guarantee a shark lol, easy money ! Shark fishing has fallen out of favor around there now because of the ignorance of the leftist around there that automatically think every species is on the brink of extinction so those small boat shark captains have gone on to other things. Nothing has changed about the sharks though, they still dump the fish scraps there secretly and the sharks are still there waiting. I kept the bull shark I caught and brought it back to the marina, well, all the drunk women from the bars around the marina seen us weighing it on the big scales at the dock and really caused a scene screaming at us lol, you might want to remember that if you bring one back. Good luck buddy.

I usually fish in Morecambe Bay and I've tried all sorts of rigs, some good, most not-so-good. But I definitely have a preference for a simple running leger for the simple reason it outfishes just about any other rig. K.I.S.S works every time!

Here is a good tip of u fish from land in the keys. Wait for the tide to slow down until it almost stops and cast out half a ballyhoo, grunt, sardine etc out as far as you can into the middle of whatever channel you are fishing. You can catch some huge muttons and grouper this way. You have to wait for the tide to slow down like this or else the current will get u snagged.

    • @TheFishLocker

@@TheFishLocker I don't think the big muttons are around right now. I havent seen anybody posting very much over keeper size (18").. seems like the big ones are offshore. I have seen big permit cuberas and groupers being caught from land right now tho. My friend got 3 permit back to back on sandfleas 2 days ago and I got 2 short muttons. Got an 11lb cubera on half a grunt not long ago.

I was out fishing off my local pier at around 4am today, unfortunately absolutely zero bites and I was using a pier rod with a 1 up 1 down rig casted at distance and another the same but just cast 10 yards out both with lovely fresh mackerel the wind wasnt south easterly it was almost zero wind and I also had a collapsible bait half way under the water column and I spent a good 3 hours there checking n changing baits and only on the rod fished at distance did anything happen and all that was a tiny shore crab dropped off on a rebait, it's strange cuz all the conditions seemed perfect but no fish bits not even crab nibbled bait apart from the one mentioned prior, regardless I got to watch the sunrise over the old college and if I'd had my camera I'd have taken pictures but I forgot so I've committed it to memory, I understand why it's your favourite Time of day as the quiet and just being there can't be compared to. I did see several good sized grey mullet heading back out to sea as I was packing up . A totally blank session but I still enjoyed it I like the challenge and I like the peace and quiet just waiting nay praying 🙏 for a bite, anyway John I've much enjoyed your miami videos have to say your anniversary is my favourite if I had to pick but ALL good m8. 👍
