- Today y'all are going to be mad at me and may disagree, but I'm sharing unpopular opinions about The Vampire Diaries. I'm talking about Damon, Stefan, Jeremy, Elena, Bonnie, and more! Once upon a time, when I was sixteen and TVD was at it's third season, I was team Delena. Now I'm team "therapy xSalvator brothers" and team "Elena x independency ". Because, let's be real here, the brothers and her friends kept her in a golden cage while she was human. All under the guise of "helping&protecting her" against her own will and when their plan failed, who was blamed? Elena. Because they allegedly done it all for her.
Yeah the Salvatore brothers definitely needed therapy and Elena definitely needed to realize it's okay to be single. They should have let her do her instead of breaking their backs to save her while not thinking about any other consequences. Everyone was all about protecting her instead of just letting her be. Honestly & unfortunately if she would have died sooner in the series.. a lot of people's deaths and other issues would have been avoided. I still dont understand why they didnt just up and relocate to a new town if they wanted her to be actually safe.

Call me crazy, but when the whole Dalaric hunter thing happened, I high-key was rooting for the mother of the originals to succeed and have all them creatures die, along with the show. Or even better, have Bonnie kill all of them! Like all them vampires where annoying as hell.
The way I was okay with letting that happen too, but then there wouldn't have been a reason to continue the show unless some how Damon and Stefan became human. It would have been interesting to see them adjust to being human tbh. Honestly if Bonnie would have killed them all in the end.. I would have been okay with that since witches are supposed to be against vamps anyway.
If Damon went to therapy the therapist would probably quit 😂

This actually reminds me that the first season dealt with quite a few abusive relationships. Damon and Caroline was depicted that way, as a clearly negative thing, and when Stefan started guzzling human blood, it was a clear metaphor for an addict who turns into someone you don’t know. But also any partner who seems ok but he actually toxic; Stefan started changing into a “vampiric” personality lol, at least he lied and gaslighted easily, had higher highs and lower lows, was unreliable and violent, etc.
I felt like in the second season maybe they started focusing on plot plot plot. And I guess they started to do more abuse apologizing?
This is true. They did focus on abuse a lot and then went towards abusers should be able to find forgiveness because they had their own trauma or went through something.. but for me it was like You're grown. You should know right from wrong and not let your emotions allow you to do messed up stuff to people..regardless if you're vamp. 😭

Totally agree, the vampires were a menace to the world. The only good vampire is a dead vampire in my book. Even if a vamp was harmless, they could still turn their humanity off on a whim and go on a murder spree. Logically speaking they're dangerous and unpredictable.
i feel like instead of Jeremy staying dead they just shouldn't have kill him every f season for 3 times, he shoulda just left the town a lot sooner (like everyone tbh) and have normal life like he was 15/16 in season 2 and there's Damon killing him because Elena rejected his pathetic ass.
You're right. It's like they wanted to get rid of him, but kept bringing him back.
I liked when they got him to leave town. It was best for him for sure.
When I tell you.. that's one of the main reasons why I always looked at Elena sideways for being with him.

I think matt was the best when he was in his situationship with rebekah....Him and Caroline idk I always felt he was always a dick to her

Everyone in TVD was kinda toxic and problematic af lol but I loved the show! I still wished Stefan and Elena ended up together.

I wanted Elena to come to her senses and be with Stefan but she never did. 😭 Caroline was great for Stefan but honestly... Stefan didn't deserve Caroline. I actually made a video about why they shouldnt have been together either 💀😂😂 after watching TVD a decent amount of times...Stefan should have been with Valerie tbh.
@@jasmineemerald1446 I think stefan was very kind to caroline when noone else was. Eventho he didn't have feelings for her and caroline did, in a creepy way. I think if this was other way around, like stefan hitting on caroline consistently and her being uncomfortable...and still helping stefan. Everyone would be hating stefan still😅
@@aladdout9454 Mmmm Stefan was a great friend to Caroline until he disappeared when they thought Damon & Bonnie were dead. He ignored Caroline but still interacted with everyone else. Then when they got together.. he kept making decisions without really talking to her. I understood why but.. he didnt do that with Elena. He just didn't seem that into Caroline to me whereas Caroline was always putting 110% into a guy whenever she liked them. They just seemed very forced to me as a couple. Caroline could have did better & Stefan would have been better off with Valerie since there was a history/chemistry there.
My unpopular opinion is I dislike Klaroline, they weren't a ship they were a shipwreck. Cami was much more suited for Klaus

The worst ship I saw on the show which contribute to me bowing out lol. Other than that Damon and Elena because it was apparently the fundamental romance of the series so I couldn’t escape it. I actually hadn’t minded Damon pining over her and Elena maybe being attracted to her. But then…???? Idk it still makes zero sense to me and the series had some of the worst messages about love by the end. XD There were a few good ones, but…
I for the life of me couldn't understand how that became a thing. If anyone piqued his interest it should have been Bonnie. He was characterized as having a thing for witches and why not try and seduce the one who very nearly killed him? Plus he had ties to her ancestors, one of them was his own mother's mentor. But sure....chase after the baby vamp who behaved just like his sister.
I honestly think it was to penalize Joseph Morgan who actually wanted Bonnie and Klaus to be a thing. He said something in an interview like he and Kat were actively campaigning for people to ship their characters. It was a whole thing back in the day. There was a whole Klonnie fanbase and everything.
Still till this day I have no idea why klaroline is so popular. They just make no sense to me. And the way people gloss over the abuse is weird and it’s all because Klaus gave her a dress or a bracelet or a check and what not.

I know that Damon did not always react in the best way to not getting his own way, but Stefan was no better. He probably killed more people than Damon did.
I agree. Stefan for sure probably killed more overall. They just showed Damon as the bad brother for the most part.
Technically Damon is a predator he was 25-27 when he became a vamp Stefan was frozen at 16-18

@@Jessica.Shawnte I think its the doppleganger effect. Stefn went for personality rather than looks, that is why he left kath and fell in love with elena. Stefan was deff over kath but somehow the doppleganger effect or something pulled him towards elena.
I really like your channel and the fact that no one brings it up how they only want Elena because she's a carbon copy of their ex. I'm not sure if you read the books or not but that's why people were shipping Bonnie and Damon as a couple because in the books they have stronger connection. That's the only reason that I watched the show because I did read the books and I thought they would follow the books more. In the books Elena and Damon are not end game.

I am debating on reading the books. I want to see if it's somewhat better than the show. I think the only reason why Damon and Elena became end game in the show was because of the overwhelming amount of fans that liked Delena. 😭😭 I honestly hate when a fanbase has more control over a show and the writers just roll with it. 😭

Yeah I agree with you about tv shows paying more attention to what the fans wanted. In the books Elena and Stefan end up together. I'm not sure but it seemed like Bonnie and Damon would have been a better pairing. In the books it looked like that's where it was going to go.
@@lynsay31 I almost thought they were going to make Stelena happen when Damon realized they were toxic for each other and the discussion of Stelena being meant to be by the Universe.. but they just went back to focusing on Delena which was annoying. LOL The focal point of their triangle relationship felt dragged out after awhile. If Bonnie and Damon happened, I probably would have been mad. LOL Considering how many things Damon did to Bonnie within the first year or 2. Friends later.. sure. But together.... nope especially considering he killed her mom and turned her into a vamp among other things How would you have felt about that if it happened? Bonnie + Damon?

I think before the show happened I loved the books so when the show happened I was still holding onto the premise that the books presented to me. So I was a hard core Damon and Bonnie supporter. That being said he needed a lot of growing up to do and he needed to earn forgiveness before he would be worthy of someone like Bonnie. I mean in most tv shows a character earns redemption but Damon honestly didn't. It was like Damon killed a bunch of people it must be Tuesday. Most of the characters didn't even blink about his actions, including Elena. Bonnie did try to put him in his place even Caroline and Stefan tried to put Damon away but it didn't seem to faze Elena at all. The books were just a bit more intense with how Damon treats Bonnie. Before he could be good enough for Bonnie he would have to get redemption but the writers would never go there.

I just started reading the books, and the differences are crazy. Also, the fact that Bonnie and Damon were best friends was wild because of all the suffering and threats he made. On top of that his family owned slaves and he was a confederate soldier who never acknowledged how messed up that was. The majority of the show I just thought, "girl you don't need these people, they need you. Have some self respect".

i think vampire elena is not getting a lot of fight scenes or not able to fight back is to differentiate both doppelgängers.
It depends... there were a couple of situations vampire Elena could have avoided if she would have used her vamp hearing like Kai sneaking up on her and knocking her out. Even her unawareness of Wes when he gave her a shot of vervain and locked her up. Or maybe she was just naive tbh.

Honestly Matt with Rebekah was cool because he calmed her down and made her feel human.
@@Jessica.Shawnte I shipped Elena with Aaron the male version of her lol if not with someone totally different including possibly a female love interest if they ever did any that.
I always felt like the show leading Elena back to Matt made the most sense. He was her first love, she died so he would be saved, she was feeding on him when she first turned, and he was her emotional trigger to get her humanity flip switched back on. All the groundwork was already there but I guess the writers lacked imagination.
Elena was a pain in the ass from Episode 1 till she left and I basically hoped we'd never see her again - she was a bigger pain and more useless as a vampire than she was as a human - go figure . I hated that she was so crappy to Damon (always gonna be Stefan) but every time she was in trouble or caused trouble it was 'oh Damon do it for me'. Really my ideal thing would have been if when she and Stefan broke up finally, she went to Damon and he told her to take a hike. Both brothers should have dumped her. Would have loved to see the look on her face.
I like it, VEEERRRRRY MUCH, Damon telling her to take a hike and she is left boyfriend less because she is exactly as manipulative as Katherine

I know people always say they separate fact from fiction, but when I see them saying the exact same things to justify fictional abuse or cruelty as I see in real life l, I don’t believe them lol. I have never felt so different from any fandom that I’ve been in. XD
Even today revisiting some of the fun episodes and getting into “conversations” with fans online, I have to tell myself that the show apparently becomes about vibes only and absolutely nothing else… logic is thrown out of the window and you’re supposed to judge based on vibes and looks, not actions.
I’m going to continue my rant lol
I take it personally too how much fans absolutely despise characters who are self-pitying (due to extreme trauma), believe in the value of human life (so to speak), and have any sense of justice.
Also, how much everyone hates “boring” characters, like the quiet ones who have convictions, and then are shocked when they reveal that they have more layers. Like yeah they’re fictional, but do you know that quiet people or those who don’t entertain you are… people? And ALL of them have layers?
@@NoelleMar I feel similarly!!! Like I have had debates with so many people about tvd because I was talking about something from a rational perspective and a good 45% of responses are like "F that. DELENA WAS LIFE." Like what? 😭😂 Or I hear a lot of "Well Damon did those things because he was hurting." I'm always like "So abuse is okay to you huh? Manipulating someone was okay because he was hurting?" I swear it's always crazy hearing some people's opinions on this show.
And yesss!! Boring characters are not dis likable at all. They have standards like idk why people don't like Matt like that. I actually loved his character. He was trying to hold things together while dealing with all the bad stuff. Plus he was a good friend.. WHO HAD MORALS!!
He brought some humanity to the show considering they REALLLLYYYY tried to paint Stefam and Damon as heroes throughout the show but it was clear they were villains who were selfish about what they wanted.. like Katherine. Could have kept vamps out of mystic falls, but no.. 😭they killed or caused all these killings along the way over the course of 6 years.
The more I have interacted with some people about this show... I realize some people relate to logic while others it is definitely all about vibes and entertaining. They don't want to talk about logical points or try to argue when I bring up logic then will hit dislike. 💀😂😂😭 I appreciate people like you who want the logical discussions! It's giving sane thought process for me. 😭

The ironic part is Damon himself said his relationship with Elena is toxic and yet the show and their fans ignore this lol. I do agree that the abuse on this show is not okay and should never be okay, fiction or not.

Why do people hate Matt tho i'll never understand lmao sure he was boring sometimes but if they'd given him better storylines or love interests he'd have been great. He's one of my fav characters (w/ Enzo, Bonnie and Care) and defo one of the least toxic characters in the whole show (he and Rebekah were CUTE argue with the wall)
In real life he was really racist towards Kat Graham for being African and Jewish as well as the guy who played Alaric
Yeah, Alaric and Matt were hated more for thwir actors than their characters. I tried seperating the art from the artist but I just can't stand either knowing what I know. It's just their faces...
I personally never got the klaroline hype. It all became fan service at one point.

Honestly rewatching the show right now at the beginning of s3.... I lowkey hate delena now I used to love delena in middle school but the fact that he's a homewrecker to his own brother is a red flag enough for me to be like yikes. IMO I would have been fine with Klaus x Caroline or Tyler X Caroline because they both have things in their relationship for me that I like and dislike. I really started to hate caroline and tyler after tyler started to become more vengful(idk how to spell it). AND ALSO I CANNOT STAND VAMPIRE ELENA OMG!! Human Elena was so much better in terms of EVERYTHING. At least Human Elena rejected Damon's horrible behaviour and tried to advise him to stop, vampire elena literally just enabled his bad behaviour☠☠☠ I also wish Anna lived or got resurected and Jeremy X Anna was Endgame!!

Damon was really plotting on his own brother's girl. You're right about Tyler and Caroline.. but as you said Tyler's obsession with revenge made him horrible. Human Elena was great for me but vampire elena lost all morals...and her focal point was always damon. She really let that man control her entire being. 😭😭 like girl... get a grip. 😂😂
I was okay with Anna dying when we saw her being reunited with her mom. That was always her main goal in life tbh so I was happy with her ending.

Like bro get a grip she not only rejected you once, not twice, but three times, even in death she rejected you!! I really wish they made Elena more of a baddie when she turned into a vampire instead of basically a sex object to Damon, and being a damsel in distress. I was happy Anna reunited with her Mom at the end of S2 but it really felt like his true love was Anna....I couldn't really get behind Bonnie x Jeremy and felt like he was just using Bonnie to get over Anna and didn't seem like love in comparison to Anna. Plus they spent half of their relationship with one of them dead(IMO Elena should just be gay)

Bonnie was definitely his rebound. He instantly went into focusing on her and didnt even let Anna's body decay for a month. 😭😭 Bonnie deserved so much better. She needed her own show. I made a video about that too (it's in my Vampire Diaries playlist 😂). See.. it's so much stuff you can talk about in relation to TVD!!
We gotta understand that these ppl are vampires. Their sexual physic and desires are heightened and different than humans.

I agree that logically damon and liz shouldn't be friends. But I don't think It's ever told to liz, liz might of been told by Caroline but then would of been compelled to forget Caroline's s1 & 2 story when they made her forget. She then learns through matt and at that point I dont think they tell her stuff she just begins working with them when Caroline's dad goes conversion therapist on her. 😅

Damon does have lots of trauma but also vampires have heightened senses and feelings so everything they feel is 100x more impactful. Damon’s biggest problem when he was a human is that he was very impulsive and we see throughout the show. He constantly does things without thinking of the consequences like when he made Elena drink his blood in S2.

Is it me or anybody just find it very irritating in such dramas targetted towards women audience , every men seem to fall in love with female protagonist.also in Emily in Paris ..she seemed to flirt with everybody but we can't say that because she is female protagnist and all other females are either friends or mean girls ...

I find it more strange than anything but it is still irritating. I know you said you werent talking about realistic but it isnt realistic for one person to be the focal point of every man's desires 😭😭 I honestly wish these shows had women more so focused on their own personal growth more than anything but they never do. It's always about the love interest after awhile or about making their whole story become about a man over the course of the show.

They definitely were. Wait why do you think Matt was racist? He was always a fan of Bonnie throughout the course of the show.. then he was cool with Sara Salvatore too (out of Enzo making him). I don't recall any racist moments for him unless I'm forgetting something.

Vicki died due to Damon. Caroline also shared how Damon was and what he did to her to with Matt. Also I feel like people forget.. Vampires as a majority were the bad guys but the series made us feel sympathetic for them and like they were the protagonists of the show when majority of them honestly didnt have morals.

Agree 100% with the human Elena bit. Vamp Elena just allows Damon to make choices for her (even after the sire bond even.) She didn’t care about Caroline when Liz passed. (Too busy worrying about making out with Damon.) She was selfless..vampire Elena was selfless, FOR DAMON.
Also, everyone says Stefan is a creep because he went to her school but forgets Stefan is frozen at 17, Damon is frozen at 25 so he can’t go to school 🙄🤣

It makes sense that Damon wouldn’t seek out therapy considering becoming a vampire heightens everything, so he was probably already a prideful human, he’s surely an even more prideful vampire. He definitely needs it tho 😭

for the last one i gotta disagree, matt and elena didn't have much chemistry at all and it seems elena didn't even truly like him romantically when she was dating him. (it seemed to me more like 'oh hey here's this childhood friend of mine who likes me, i guess I should like him back?)

My unpopular opinions are that Elena and Stefan were fine…for season 1 and 2 only. They weren’t healthy, but he did try, and not for just her but because he wanted to be better. I know that’s a pittance,‘but Damon’s major motivation for doing the right thing was Elena and so even when he wasn’t killing all of the main characters’ relatives, he was codependent. And as soon as he didn’t have her, he’d go straight back to killing, including the people closest to her. Stefan was still a predator tho and I cannot see them working out long term in a way where there was equal footing.
I think Elena and Bonnie should’ve ended up together. And only if the show had changed significantly where Elena had started to appreciate her. Oh and if Elena actually had taken time to be single and heal. They had a good foundation and anyway, Kat Graham mentioned that she pitched Bonnie being queer amongst other things. But the writers wouldn’t go for it.
Jeremy and Anna should’ve been endgame
By far my most problematic feelings are about Klaus and Caroline. I liked them together. They had chemistry, but chemistry does not make a relationship so I’m glad that they didn’t last. The laundry list of the horror he put her and her friends through is too much to excuse.
Oh and I wanted to see a bit more of who Elena used to be before the car crash. We hear about how much she changed but we don’t know really and the brothers had so many flashbacks to show how they got to where they are.
I also think it would’ve been cool if they had left Mystic falls as you said and the show continued - because it turned out that the problem at its core was them. Particularly Stefan and Damon, but yeah it could’ve expanded the world and it would’ve made sense for the characters to have left earlier.

Some very good takes. Though I don't think Elena should be with Matt. Just because he wasn't a predator doesn't make him right for her. I think they broke up for a reason, Elena changed, once when her parents died and then when becoming a vampire. She wouldn't fit with someone like Matt personality wise, she would like someone more confident and a bit cocky to bring her out of her shell. A guy like Liam actually, a good guy who knows he's got a lot to offer, smart and confident about who he is, but not in an unhelthy way. Someone like Liam for sure. Matt would have brought her down, he was a fantastic friend but not a good boyfriend. And just like Stefan and Damon, Matt should have had some much needed therapy before thinking of relationships.
Edit: Someone LIKE Liam but not Liam exactly. He felt off in a lot of their scenes, I always had a feeling that he'll turn around and stake her with wood 😂

I have... mixed feelings about Katherine. I'll eventually make a video solely about her, but she had a lot going on. She was horrible but beneath everything she did.. it was about survival and keeping herself alive until she died. Then it was no one deserves a happy ending even after death. A great villain though.
I agree with all you said, but I still shipp Klaroline and Stelena, like if this was real life I wouldn't defend none of the couples, but since its fiction... and I personally think that Bonnie deserved better, she never had the right to be or feel anything. She never had the right to be angry at the people who made her suffer, her grams was the only death that didn't have a funeral and so on.

I'm not monetized and haven't made any money off of the video. I also didn't list all characters from the show or say that I didnt like most of the storylines either otherwise it wouldn't make sense to rewatch the series. I can enjoy a show even if the characters could have been written much better. I'm just sharing my opinion tbh because it's what I wanted to talk about. I made a couple of other TVD videos too. Also I have a strong feeling that TVD videos probably won't even monetize well considering the series is old.
