Echo is brilliant and clearly loves to please you. Had an Australian Shepherd and the thought process of these dogs are fascinating. As a puppy he’d nip at our heels trying to heard us. As a runner, taking my Aussie and another dog of mixed breed with me. My Aussie would naturally keep my pace, stay behind me while the other was in front. Then he’d come up from my side to turn the other dog on a corner, keeping my pace. Living in a hot climate he’d always run in my shade in front or behind me, only to come out in the sun to turn or correct the other dog. Whilst watering the back garden with 2 sprinklers, i called the dogs to me. The mixed breed dog came through water and all. The shepherd waited, timed the sprinklers, coming to me dry. To see your dogs in their natural habitat, doing their work is lovely indeed. ✨💖✨
Lovely 😍. I was dog sitting for friends. There is a huge park for dog walkers and general recreation. Far off to us in the park, but who joined us in an instant, was a Border Collie. She was literally and metaphorically running rings around her human. She ran over to me and the Black Lab obsessed with her ball, to herd us. Owner was calling (AKA shouting). I bounced the ball towards the owner so his collie was running back towards him (because Maggie the Lab was chasing her ball).
On leaving the park, through a narrow alleyway, the collie was there. Still and calm. She was playing hide and seek with her owner; hiding with such intent with an expression on her face which said 'I'm winning this game.
But it's sad. Completely the wrong owner for her. Beautiful dog.
Echo, knocking it out of the park! Have you done a video using your crook? I would love to see that. 🙏
Very enjoyable watching your videos
Baahahahahaaa waiting and timing the sprinklers. loooooollll. I often say dogs are stoopid, when they goofy, but thats the most "dog" I have ever heard.
I thought the video was great as usual but my 9 month old border collie pup thought that it was absolutely fantastic. You had his undivided attention for each whistle command
Echo's memory is better than mine 😂😂😂
As a herding dog owner for 40 years I've always used just a natural whistle to call my dogs. Never thought about it. My current 2year old border collie has only known a recall on a whistle and a few days ago and I just called her verbally. She looked at me like I was crazy. I whistled and she came at a drop dead run. Silly trainer. Lol I should've trained both. Love Echo!
Echo was amazing! Strong training by you also, Sean! I think even the sheep were responding to the whistles. Great to learn about this important part of the profession. Thank you.
So intelligent, it is a joy to watch him. Thanks for taking me along.
Sheep dogs are some of the smartest dogs I have ever seen, and the fact that your dogs look so exceptionally happy and excited to do what they are doing definitely earned my sub. Thank you for loving your animals the way you do
You are very patient; the border collie sheepdog are so smart. We had Jackson, the border collie. He trained so easily but, was very anxious to do a job. He passed away two years ago, and is greatly missed. Our corgi herds people who come to visit. She also herds all of our other dogs. I enjoy videos that you make and the views . Your wife is so pretty. Again, admire you for your hard work. Also, I love Scotland.
Thank you
That was really awesome. Great training skills you and Echo displayed. When you blew the whistle at the start of the video, my BC came into the room, ears perked up and looking at the monitor. I've had her since she was 6 months old, she's 5 now and never even seen sheep, she's my buddy. I've use a whistle, basically one tone just for recall. Thank you, very cool.
Do the sheep get treats for helping train Echo? Lol. That was cool to watch, Echo is a smart boy. ❤
Thank you
😂😂😂 so funny
One doesnt realise how much work goes into sheep farming .Its real dedication and hard work. The sheep in parts of South Africa seem to just wander around.
Echo stole my heart. He is unbelievably intelligent. He has displayed wonderful sheep dog instincts, but never thought he'd pick up whistle commands so quickly, especially the difference between "lie down" and "that'll do". That one seemed so tricky on day 1 for him. Love your dog training videos, so positive and knowledgeable. Warm hugs to you and your family
Lovely to watch! He picked up that ‘lie down’ whistle really quickly!
I have trained my lab cross to come to me on a whistle command, it took 2 weeks to make sure that she was able to be recalled, even if we didn't see each other. I can see whistle commands with sheepdogs are more complicated. Apparently you can get different pitched whistles to work with more than one dog. Lovely to see the cooperation between you and your dogs.
Thank you
Echo has learned so much! Such a smart and good boy! Each of your sheepdogs has their own style, but they all are excellent at what they do. You are a thoughtful and patient teacher, Sean. Thank you for sharing this video!
I trained Scotties and Westies for obedience and show. I also trained English Springer Spaniels for field show. My dad had three whistles he wanted them to learn: Lay down, Fetch, and drop it. We lived in very rural Wisconsin and I was bored so I taught them some funny ones....one that officially made him laugh was when he whistled for lay down I whistled for them to play dead and lay on their backs. I honestly thought he was going to choke laughing! The whistle is effective and you're a pro at it! Well done!
Echo is amazing. i love how slinky he is. He’s like a border collie super model.
Beautiful Echo is such a smart pup! I think he has inherited his Granny’s RocketDog genes too!🥰❤️❤️👍
Love watching your dog echo and the work he does. It's always nice to see a shepherd dog doing what he's bred to do. All those spaces he can run. And the new learnings that he's stimulated to do. God bless you. First time to see young people doing the old ways.
I get the feeling that Echo could run all day. He is such a GOOD boy!!!! He is fun to watch work. Very IMPRESSIVE!!!!!! Love it.
Until today, I thought Golden Retrievers were the happiest dog breed. Now I think working Border Collies are the happiest dogs I've ever imagined 😊
Echo is a good boy!!! These shepherds are amazingly smart. They love to work and make their handlers happy. Plus he is a beautiful animal.... Thank you sir!!!!!
It appears to me that the sheep (Rams) are in tune to the whistle commands just about as good as Echo. Love your videos and your dogs so much fun to watch.
Just a note to say how much I'm enjoying the channel - the dogs are so lovely and super smart. I'm not sure who's training who sometimes!
Thank you so much!
Echo did very well. He responds instantly. He is a great student
Fantastic ~ Echo is very quick to learn in such a short amount of time.. Well done !!
Many thanks!
Such a beautiful view with your experienced, positive, working dog training. Success, health and happiness to you and your family and animals. Thank you ❤
Thanks
It's interesting you used the word "'positive"'. I think probably 99% of farmers use the methods Sean is using - - you can't be too "hard" with a border collie or you ''ruin" them for herding. In other words if they fear you (in a bad way) they won't work or learn at all. It's the breed. So for centuries, they have been trained just as Sean does.
@@greenshp it's even more interesting that you took one word from a compliment to someone else and then used your time to explain what you don't actually know.
Good stuff. Have a good day.
@@ShroomNana Why are you being so sensitive? That was not at all a personal attack, I was merely commenting on your statement! I think that is allowed on CZcams. LOL For many people "positive dog training" has a certain modern connotation, and I was merely speaking to that. Also, I have also done herding w/ border collies for over 30 years, so be careful about making assumptions about other people.
@@greenshp sensitive 😂 nah. You are the one who is sensitive to a single word I used in a compliment to someone else. Unless you are too sensitive for CZcams? I don't care. Mind yourself.
These dogs are so very lucky to have you as their owner.
What a wonderful display of coordination between you and Echo. I see what you mean about your dogs wanting to learn to interact with you. Echo performed wonderfully. You’re a very good teacher Sean! The first video of yours I shared with my wife, it was lambing time where one of your black coloured ewes lost a set of twins, but happily another ewe had twins that survived. My wife’s observation was that you are a very good teacher. Love your videos, please keep them coming. Enjoying them all the way from Canada…
He absolutely loves it and is giving the sheep a good run for their money and is clearly delighted to hear your praise and do his job well - he is like greased lightening on legs. True pleasure to watch and I'm sure he is capable of a lot more things that you can train him to do.
What a wonderful experience. I almost felt like I was there. Echo is coming along beautifully thanks to your skill and understanding. The relationship you have with your dogs is amazing.
I love watching you work your dogs.
Echo proves how smart Border Collies are. Five days of training and he knows the whistle commands well enough for Sean to use them in the field.
Here I thought Shawn was just naturally good at whistling! 😂. Echo seams to be learning fast
Sorry, Sean
I love the whistle commands. The sheep respond to it almost as fast as the dog.
I could listen to you explain things all day, you've got a really reassuring and controlled presence.
I think your sheep might be smarter than we give them credit for. They hear the whistle and start moving.
Kudos to Sean and the Very Good Boy!
Echo is a good boy🐾❣️🐾 So dang smart and as eager to please. And you’re a good boy, too, Sean❣️
He did so well, love all your dogs but have a special spot for echo
Echo did a fantastic job !! And of course it took a great teacher to show him. Thanks for sharing.
You’re such a good trainer that by the end of the video, I almost had the whistles down …but not as good as Echo!🥰
Great job, Sean….Echo is picking it up fast… but you can tell that he loves what he was born to do and really wants to please you…👍👍
Echo is super amazing. I'm so happy for his achievements. Go Boy Echo.
Thanks for showing and explaining to us how you train your dogs. Very interesting and beautiful how your dog is so dedicated to do what you ask him to do. Big hugs for your dogs 🤗🤗🤗.
The partnership between shepherd and dog is remarkable.
Amazing animal. He is a beautiful dog as all your pups are. Patience and repetition....you have them both. Congratulations, he will be a wonderful asset to your farm.
Echo is doing VERY well. He's getting the whistle commands down pretty firm.
Absolutely amazing we have had border collies all our lives (used to live in Morayshire) you have just proved in the right hands how happy they are doing a job.
Your quiet way of training is wonderful and it reaps its own rewards. Look forward to see him in the future
Well done both you and Echo👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for teaching a city gal a bit about how you train those beautiful dogs of yours. I’ve seen dogs working sheep many times but it’s still a mysterious miracle how the dog “connects the dots” so quickly. You are an excellent and patient owner - thank you for sharing part of the process.
He's really picked up those whistles well. Could see he was getting confused by the recall whistle for a while, but picked up your body cues. Brilliant video Sean!
Always love watching these guys work!
You can see how incredibly intelligent the dogs are! I, as a human, have trouble learning these whistles as commands 😯
Had a collie as a lass and she'd always 'herd' the 3 of us little ones. 😂😅
I love watching these dogs work the sheep but, man l love watching them run! Echo has learnt the whistles beautifully but, it would be really cool if perhaps you could caption them for those of us who haven't learnt them so well. 😊
Oh my how absolutely beautiful to watch. Very smart boy that Echo .What a great bond you have. ❤
I love watching your dogs. I have an18 month old border collie, a red mural. He came to me with tons of fear and anxiety but is showing improvement every day.
Excellent command retention! Echo is making a name for himself for use. Still have a soft spot for Miss Kate. I love watching her work and run.
Watching the final run with only whistles made me almost emotional, he did so great. Dogs are so smart!
Echo was amazing, he's a clever boy! The relationship you have with the dogs is so enjoyable to watch
Thanks for sharing how to train herding dog 👍
You kept saying, "That'll do." I kept thinking, "That'll do pig 🐖. That'll do." Lol 🤣
He did amazing. It takes a dog who wants to learn and a patient trainer whose consistent with him. Well done Echo!
Echo did amazing. He's beautiful. All of your dogs are beautiful and its such a pleasure to watch them. ❤ 🐾 🐾 🐾 🐾
So happy CZcams recommended your channel! Love the channel. My dog would be in heaven running in those open fields 🥲
Glad you enjoy it!
Clever bhoy! Calm and not over exuberant. Gonna be a keeper 😊
You are such a fantastic Trainer. He adores his owner too. Love yr videos ❤
Your training amazing!
He's really talented and so beautiful. Gorgeous boy, extremely lovable.
You are both devoted and dedicated to each other. That's what makes things work
Brings tears to my eyes. Beautiful dog.
And your sheep are beautiful! What a bright dog.
Love to see more of Echo. He was amazing running top speed in that video with the Run Boy Run song.
Echo is obviously a very smart dog who loves to please his master!!!
Is so great to see well adjusted dogs. This breed just loves to do things for their pack leader. They need lots to do to use up their high energy. Truly a pleasure to watch.
I just recently discovered your channel through your shorts and this is the first full-length video I am watching. Super interesting to see how you're teaching him - and it makes me so happy to see the pure joy Echo has as he's working and learning.
Echo's connection with you is just beautiful to watch. Thanks for sharing your life with these beauties.
Echo is a strong partner for sheep man. Wonderful to watch
Echo is brilliant! His owner is pretty smart too!😉😅. Great training. That ‘ll do. 💚🐑🐏
Love watching you train your dogs, you have grown in confidence,it shows in your dogs ability to learn fast from you..
Gotta love your dedicated worker !! That's the way to build that bond.
That was awesome to watch Echos progression. He is a smart boy and you do a wonderful job, patient and clear on your commands. 😊
He is so smart! He picked that up very quickly!
Sean. i am a 61 year old American midwest “city slicker” (Cincinnati, Ohio). i love my dogs, mostly Golden Retrievers over the years, one who was half Newfoundland. And one “black sheep” 😉 who was found wandering the streets, about four months old, in the middle of the winter, possibly a stray, possibly feral, who we believe 🤞🏼 is part Border Collie, part Labrador 🤷🏻♂️ that takes her energy and intensity level down a notch, thank goodness 🙏🏼🫢. She was quite a handful when we adopted her (we didn’t know! she was just a cute little puppy 🤷🏻♂️🫢) so she required an adjustment and a lot of activity and attention… and we have accommodated her. Because we *love* her ❤️.
Anyway, i have absolutely no interest in farming or tending animals. (My wife does, however. My neighbor commented on the amazing vegetable and flower garden that she had created in our backyard, and the chickens she was raising in it; “It’s just like the tv show ‘Green Acres’ - to which i replied, “yeah except I’m Zsa Zsa’ 😏😖”.
Your lifestyle is anathema to me 🫣. But i love what *you* do. I love the scenery. i love your Scottish accent! Most of all, i love your dogs 😊
It is tragic that some people adopt Birder Collies and keep them as “pets” mostly inside the house, gone all day at work, with a little outside time in the yard, bored out of their intelligent minds with no outlet for their incredible energy and no fulfillment for their genuine sense of purpose. (Some dogs never het adopted at all… 😢😢😢).
When i see your dogs at work, totally in sync with you, so eager to please, so passionate and proud of their own performance, so content with the love and affirmation they get from you… it fills my heart.
i just wanted you to know the city boy’s perspective on it. Thank you for being that person for these wonderful, amazing dogs ☺️
I think Echo's a very good boy! Fast learner, and that's all you can ask.
I understand just enough from my limited knowledge of dog training to fully appreciate the work you are doing.
Absolutely magnificent! Echo is amazingly intelligent (as are your other beautiful border collies). Watching them always amazes and entertains me. 😁
Echo is showing all of us his doing what he’s breed to do and living his best life
Echo's doing quite well! Kate and Storm too!
As a owner of two bordie collies, to watch you work and live with them is an absolute joy. My oldest is 14/5 and getting close to the end, which is heartbreaking, the younger one at 4yo has learnt so much from him. I love the way you treat your 'babies' genuine encouragement and love, I can't get over how intelligent they are and Echo has got that whistle in his stride. Great work again Sean, and a big hello to the rest of the family - love from Australia xxx
Glad your feeling better. Hope stacy too. Thankyou
Echo did a great job. I recognized all the whistles
Superb channel
Very inspiring to see these magnificent dogs working so well with their master
I’m sure I saw the sheep relax when you said ‘Lie down’! Perhaps they understand a bit too ☺️
Much gratitude Sean. Showing the type of whistle you use (in the beginning I thought it was all you and how men use their fingers, which I've never figured out to belt one meself). The whole video is very grand. Now that I've got hawks flying lowbies over me with my electronic whistle maybe I can follow your example and make me dogs their own "do it"s on it or get similar to yours. The "hawk" stops them in their tracks when they're about really noisy mischief no matter where or how far off they've gone, whence they come to me arunnin. See me 😄? Thankya!
Same
Haha thanks
Echo is learning very well.
He def Is a Good boy...he's going to be Perfect Very Soon.....❤❤
Just found your channel and subscribed. Lovely to watch you and your clever dogs in action and see the beautiful greenery and scenery. What a wonderful way to start my day! All the best from South Africa.
The sheeps understand the commands too, they come to you and stop when you command lay down to the dog.😊
I always wondered what the whistles meant. Great explanation. I’m learning so much on your channel.
I knew Echo could learn those whistle commands! :)
Fabulous to watch these dogs working. Born to run indeed.
Sean, Those are the fittest sheep in Scotland
Brilliant - absolutely BRILLIANT 🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻 !!!
* gives Echo bonus treats *
