Those idiots doing the recovery should be locked up for using a tow hitch to recover a vehicle.

The worst part is that the tide only comes in that far once a year during the Spring Equinox. ( I am only joking but if you were born in Burnham like I was you will understand).

I remember it was around this time a business woman was in the region for a few days working whilst from Germany, she went down on to the beach and the car got stuck, the BARB couldn't get it out in time and the tide engulfed it, they found it again after the tide went out. I often wonder what she said to her boss when she got back..

Jeez! two of them were 4x4s!!! Facepalm!
The Coast Guard shouldn't have to deal with this nonsense!! They're basically a charity.
Local authorities should have a specialized vehicle for this, or a local salvage business should be partly Gov't sponsored and then the insurance of the vehicle recovered pays them their fee.

The BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat) Search And Rescue Team are all volunteers and their operations are funded entirely by donations. Every time they go out, they're potentially risking their lives, and of course there's all the costs involved. If it's a genuine emergency then human life matters more than the cost, but idiots like these drivers are just wasting BARB's time and money. What if they're dealing with trying to retrieve a car, and an emergency call comes in? Valuable time wasted.
Insurance may not pay out if you're daft enough to drive half a mile down the beach over soft sand and thick mud.

@@Dark_Autumn Well if people are still in the vehicle, obviously a rescue is in order, but if it's been abandoned, then it ought to be a salvage job.

I'm not sure what that driver was thinking of! It's not exactly ideal driving conditions...I'm wondering if they actually saw the mud!! Apparently not.

Vehicles should be banned by law on ALL beaches in the UK There is no viable reason to drive any vehicle on a beach in the UK.These idiots should be brought before the courts & done for causing a public nuisance & wasting emergency services time.

The car park is on the beach at brean that’s why they are parked there

    • @nevillemason6791

@@callumdrake8057 Cars are allowed to park on the beach at Southport, Merseyside.
In the 1960s drivers were allowed to roam anywhere, up to half a mile out when the tide was out. People got stuck in soft sand all the time so there was a Landrover on permanent patrol to pull them out. It was also a place to try driving without a licence. Nowadays only a couple of hundred yards of beach is accessible (there's a rope barrier with steel rod posts) to prevent accessing soft sand. It seems a lot more restrictions like this are needed at Brean to stop this happening.
