Elvis died August 16, 1977 and not 2 or 3 days later this record (45rpm) was played on the radio...when I bought the 45 it had as the artist "anonymous" because he didn't want anyone to know who he was...he was honoring Elvis. It was a long time before we found out who was singing. Definitely not an impersonator at all...and he was a young man at the time.

I was 16 years old on the 16th day of August, 1977 - for some reason I had stayed home instead of going to school. Then I heard the sad news on radio, that the most beautiful man I had admired the most, watched at the movies, and enjoyed immitating, had passed away. It was a shock. I remember this song clearly, as though it was only yesterday. I wish I had kept all my recordings of this and some of the Elvis Presley's songs - loved those early years when I was able to immitate and sound like Elvis. Funny thing was I never told anyone why I wore my shirts the way I did - wearing 2 different coloured shirts, with flared collar. No one knew why I talked, walked, and danced the way I did - I loved Elvis.
I'm older now so I talk, walk, dance and dressup, and sound like myself. But I still love Elvis...
Thanks R. McDowell for the best tribute to the King - Elvis A. Presley (Just months before Elvis passed, and by deed poll, I changed my name to Jesse).

Got to see Ronnie in concert a little while after Elvis died..it was in a small auditorium in texas..back them we could really get close to an entertainer...me and my hubby stood in line back stage to get his autograph. ...I was the 4 in line..the 3 women before me were excited just like we all were ...they got his autograph and thanked him...when it was my turn I threw my arms around his neck a kissed him just as good as I could, and he kissed me back to...and soon as we came up for air he asked me my name and he gave me a great autograph...I was on cloud 9 as I walked back out front...my hubby was suppose to get one for my parents...but he was so mad at me that he forgot...it took him a week to get over it...we were a newly wed ..been married 49 years now...he was so afraid of loosing me I guess ( he didn't have anything to worry about )......I still have that autograph. ..I will never part with it....this is just my little walk down memory lane....

My Dad, Floyd Ray Young was so happy for him and Roddy's song about Elvis. My dad was invited to his concerts, and Roddy always said, pointing his finger into the crowd at my Dad and said, "This was my favorite Steel guitar player I've ever played with... He's the only impersonator who I couldn't tell the difference between him and Elvis.

Have a spot on ear for any Elvis impersonator. They all try. When we lost Elvis l was devastated. To hear Ronnie sing this Tribute Song tore me apart. 200% Spot On! Every lyric! Made me cry even more. Still have the 45 RPM l bought back in :77. 🎸😭😎

I remember in 2012 my father was murdered in his home in Tampa FL the night before I had to go to St Pete to get my dad's ashes i listened to this song probably 20 times, on the way back I was down and my mom and I stopped at a local place called the crab shack I went into the restroom and washed up and when I come out my mom said do you know who this is and I was surprised because I thought it was a buddy of mine from back home but then he said hello my name is Ronnie McDowell and I shook his hand and said no way, I said I listened to your music until 3am this morning and he looked like yea right and I said I'll show you I reach in my pocket and pulled out my cell phone and it magically came on to Ronnie's song the King is gone and he said well ill be you really was and he showed his friends, we all sat down and ate crabs and he started singing and then he got up and left and told us he would be doing a gig in Ocala we tried to find it but couldn't we are big fans of Ronnie's he's a humble and great gentleman, God bless him hope I run into him at the strawberry festival if he's there this year, thanks Ronnie for bringing some sunshine to a dark day in our family's lives.
