ANTONOV AN 225 UR-82060 KOLN-BONN airport , 2003

one of several trips to this airport in Germany ,especially at the time this was the rarest of events to see this unique giant in the West
sadly all is history now
extended footage , was warranted to do so due to the above mentioned reason
after some initial engine .. difficulty , it managed to depart !!
old analogue video of course , HD was not available yet !
i have been lucky to have seen this design for some 5 times , most memorable indeed !

Patrick the world's biggest flying machine and none to compare her to in the west.An accolade to the state of the Ukraine and the genius of the people who built and engineered this plane. Great footage from some twenty years ago for the Crown Jewel of avaition, too bad she was destroyed in this war.Another beautiful airport for the planespotter Patrick thanks for video and catch you on the next flight.

I was going to say this vid has to be pre 2010, then I saw the date (2003). That Lufthansa MD-11, D-ALCQ, was destroyed in a crash in Riyadh in 07/2010.
The footage of the An-225 is truly priceless. I regard myself as VERY lucky to have seen her, even though she was at 36K feet when I did.
Also, look up video of her last visit to the UK - when she powered up for take off from Brize Norton she blew the airfield perimeter fence over !

thanks , David , did not know the sad ending of the MD11 , i normally always stayed at OSTEND , but this giant certainly was worth it , the final curtain, unless .... i doubt it , but hope springs eternal

yes but one has to remember this one of the first visits in Germany and the West , SO... is of historic significance , some engine difficulty as well , those initial first big by pass engines in the USSR were prone to problems , safety first
