Today Tim compares and reviews the Zenith Defy Skyline and the Rolex Datejust.

The Rolex Datejust 41 Rhodium 126300 is encased in 41mm of stainless steel surrounding a mint green sunburst dial on a stainless steel Jubilee bracelet. Features of this Rolex Datejust 41 include hours, minutes, seconds, and date. This Rolex watch also measures 11.7mm in thickness and 47.5mm from lug-to-lug.

I own this Zenith and have a couple of the latest Rolex Subs, it’s a very different watch obviously to the Subs, both Subs are incredibly accurate but so is the Zenith, even though you can’t accurately tell what it is to the second because of the fast seconds hand it still ticks over to the minute with incredible accuracy so doesn’t effect it’s performance at all, I am lead to believe that the El Primero movement is one of the most accurate in the industry, I think COSC certification isn’t as important as people think. Also the bracelet and general finishing on the Zenith are on another level to the Rolex , it feels like that of holy trinity standard plus the quick release system is far superior, display case back shows a stunning movement and beautiful dial with tiny Zenith stars covering it , I know why it makes more sense to choose the Rolex , resale and popularity etc but honestly I think the Zenith is a much nicer , better made , less common , and much more interesting watch than most Rolex’s let alone than this Datejust. Plus Tim has got the guarantee wrong , if you register the Zenith on the website you get additional warranty making it 5 years which is the same as Rolex.
Don't thank us for logging on Tim, thank YOU for doing god's work with the Versus Series.
Gods work....its good but not that good buddy....lol
@@wolfcommander6009chill out man it’s a figure of speech Lel
Rolex for me, love the funky design but like the author I favor the crown in this comparison.
Zenith is by far the more interesting watch and is usually compared to a Royal Oak at a fraction of the price if you are buying the Rolex for better resale that’s a different story in terms of the extra power reserve 60 hours for the Zenith is great considering it’s a fast beat movement but if you are buying watches for a slightly better power reserve then you’ll be looking at Baume et Mercier and 5 days at a third of the price which is probably one of the most underrated manufacturer’s which share their movements with IWC either way you will not be disappointed with any.
I own a DJ41 & love it. but the Zenith is a more interesting watch
The “fun” seconds hand on the zenith give me anxiety
Owned that exact DJ41 configuration, never bonded with it and sold after a year
Wow
Would love a versus with the zenith and the Chopard Alpine Eagle
I'd pick the Zenith all day, every day, IF it just had a proper running seconds (either centre seconds like the "standard" Defy, or using the subdial), instead of that completely useless 10-second subdial.
The Datejust, therefore, wins by default, even if I hate the Cyclops date and prefer almost everything else about the Defy (in other words, I'd take an Aqua Terra or Santos over either).
One detail that might be worth mentioning about 904L steel in future is that it's a little tougher and more corrosion resistant than 316L due to a higher nickel content, to the point it's not actually wearable by people with severe nickel allergies (unlike 316L). Doesn't matter to me personally, but something that people buying Rolex or GP Laureato should be aware of.
Actually 904 (particularly the Rolex variety) tends to be a little softer as compared to regular 316, but because of that it can be refinished easily. That’s one big reason Rolex has generally shifted to simpler case shapes (dropping of bevel on the side etc) since it’s adoption by them
Big fan of the zenith but I think you broke it down in a way that gives it due credit…but shows the comparable Rolex is (unfortunately) ahead in many important regards. In a number of ways, the prior defy might have been a better comparison (even though I prefer the skyline’s styling).
Also learned a new pronunciation of defy, so there’s that 😂
Great work 👍🙏
Tim... I have this blue one, I love it, but it has an oddity. The 5 pm lume is missing... It's white, it's filled in, but just does not glow!
This is a typical Rolex casing yet still remains with 4 sharp edges at the end of the lugs ! But the polishing and color certainly beat the hell of those available on market of early years !!
⚠️ why does everybody say the two-year warranty?… all you need is two minutes on the website and it is a five-year warranty.
Resell higher for rolex, yes, only if you can get the watch for retail price without a waiting list. 😅
And I think the zenith defy is bi-directional date adjust. The earlier model of defy classic already is bi-direction in date adjustment so I assume the new one should be also 🤔
I have both. The Datejust 41 is actually only 39mm. I have no idea why they call it 41.
GP Laureato for me.
Rolex hands down. The DJ41 is the pinnacle of refinement. I dare say it's classier than the Sub.
so you mean sub is classy? 😆🤣
typical rolex idiot
@@doperdr Believe me, I've been a Rolex hater for a long time. But once I actually got one my opinion changed.
@@tudorserban111 Which DJ41 configuration did you get?
@@eyeheartsushi2212 The exact configuration in this video.
@@tudorserban111 Nice
Thanks for bringing back vs.
Zenith for me.
Had Air kings and Datejusts.
They bore me now.
Rolex now just staid and boring.
Wooo! Wolex at anytime!
Zenith for the win. The crown does need just a little slimming diet.
Rolex.... if it were Omega AT 38mm tho I would choose Omaga AT over Rolex DJ
The previous zenith defy classic is just better imo. Except it doesn’t have a screw down crown…
Zenith defy all the way
Still confused by this pronunciation of 'defy'. Indeed, I defy it.
Yeah first time I’ve heard it pronounced like that.
Not sure I get why we would want to compare the two. If I had to choose, I'd pick the Rolex though, sell it, and buy something different
Love the verses comparisons.
"This thing appears as though it has a tumor of sorts on the dial. "
😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆
Zenith has some amazing cases right now. And I'm loving these three hand hi-beat releases.
Rolex is so dull. And when I see someone wearing one, which is too often, I think they're making a statement about wealth, and not necessarily a fan of watches or horology.
Granted, at that $8k-$9k range, I'd be looking at a Blancpain FF Bathyscaphe. Slightly below, I'd look at the new Zenith Pilot in steel.
Zenith feels bigger because of bezel vertexes.
Huh
Because the DJ is objectively smaller at 36mm here
@@kevinhan721 That's not a 36mm datejust, despite what the tag says
I'd prefer the Rolex over the Zenith.
Those of us with aging eyes would like to se the Rolex Cyclops date on other brands
Cyclops is not a Rolex invention.
@@garyboyle695 Who invented it? Why are they not more readily available on other brands. I know some brands offer Big Date but in my perhaps limited experience Rolex seems to be the one provided Cyclops. The Tudors I have seen don’t have Cyclops.
@@edwardb7811 Chopard use it for one and do it far better as the Cyclops is on the underside of the crystal. Seiko also use it, as do quite a few other brands.
I'd rather see the panorama date on the Glashutte Original.
@@highnrising I checked it out and it's great.
I dont know why Zenith does not specify antimagnetic and accuracy
I wouldn’t worry much about accuracy. I own an El Primero, it’s easily the most accurate watch I own. It’s more accurate than my Metas certified Omega, probably by a good margin. Both are accurate.
No idea how common it is to get such a well regulated Zenith, mine was bought pre owned. On forums, I don’t recall complaints concerning accuracy.
zenith at 5000 makes sense but not at full retail, no way
zenith is superior to rolex
Datejust, but 36 mm
Zenith is way better than Rolex.
If only Rolex had a date watch without a cyclops! 😣😢
The Datejust's tag says 36mm @ 0:26 . Guess that's why we got no wrist shot for the Rolex ;)
Must have been a typo, that’s definitely the 41. Reference number on the tag 126300
Wrong tag. This is definitely 41mm. 36mm would looks substantially smaller compared to Zenith.
The hand movement is too erratic. Makes enjoying the video very difficult. Nice "vs" otherwise.
Rolex, all day every day.
Both completely different type of watches
Zenith is 10x better looking.
This Zenith is a homage to an icon. The Rolex Datejust is an icon.
the Skyline looks extremely good but the Hublot clowns at Zenith have prevailed on the ridiculous 10 second display.
No way would I buy a Rolex. Too much perceived status and bling. A little too vulgar and pretentious for my tastes. Zenith all the way.
While I don’t love the brand baggage in most situations, the watches are well done. Thin, super tough, parts available well past when we all expire and a timeless design. Personally, I’ve never had someone remark on any of my watches, even Rolex, in public.
The Datejust just doesn't look right in 41. It's too bulbous. The classic 36 looks way better
That zenith is too big
Zenith doesn't make watches that fit my wrist...
I bought a Zenith Elite 36mm. it fits great and value vs quality is through the roof
I love the Zenith, EXCEPT for that gimmicky 10-second subdial. So utterly useless.
Zenith all day! Rolex is so overpriced!
The price is the same in this case, lol
@@bohouss3622but Zenith has better movement and case design
And btw you can sell Rolex afterwards for higher price which you simply cannot do with Zenith. Btw I have them both (Rolex in green mint, Zenith in blue).
@@vunguyenchannel why better movement? Each has it’s own advantages.
My point exactly!
To be so egotistical as to buy a watch that would tempt someone to detach your hand from your wrist for financial gain is a textbook definition of insanity. Screw Rolex!
Rolex, zzzzzzzz.
Rolex lost this one really hard
That Zenith is just too big. Rolex wins this hands down. If you cant beat a competitor in brand cache, at least don't put out crap products. That Zenith looks like a plate on the hand.
Imagine taking a zenith over a Rolex
imagine caring about how someone spends money xd
Can I have both?
