    Investing in a luxury watch can be an exciting but intricate financial decision. The value of these watches can appreciate over time, making them potential assets. However, maintenance costs and depreciation should be considered.

    I laughed when I saw this posted yesterday - I was heading out to my AD to pick up my Extreme Diver. I'm now wearing my blue Extreme Diver. I think a lot of people get put off by the thickness, but it's not a Tudor slab side thick, the convex shaping of the caseback, the angled chamfer of the case, the ceramic bezel, and the metal bezel breaks up the case thickness. Include the fact that it's titanium, it's very wearable.

    The Pelagos comes in blue, has a trick clasp and it’s half the price. The Planet Ocean comes in various colours, sizes and prices. Both just as well finished but you knew that already which is likely why you focused on them integrated bracelet, as if anyone who buys a diver thinks “it must have integrated bracelet”. Stop pandering to conglomerates, Zenith is the top LVMH watch brand and they’ve trying to position it opposite Rolex - not going to happen. Bloody Richemont behaves the same, both are pricing out watch enthusiasts in favour of increased dividends for their shareholders.

    love it! as a diver myself i prefer a dive watch to be 100% designed to be a dive watch! As you mention, if you wanted a sleeker, slimmer, dressier version then wear a Defy! Usually a decent tool watch needs to be 100% designed for its job.... works way better than a "jack of all trades, master of none" watch!

    I like these Zenith divers, glad you singled them out for a good review. The alternative is simply the Planet Ocean, which is also at 600m, also and comes in various sizes as you know, including a very wearable 39.5 which sits superbly on the wrist. I have the Summer Blue version and its awesome. Comparing it to the Offshore is cheeky as the latter is supposedly a high horology watch, although sometimes I do wonder how much more manual work AP put into their movements and cases compared to a lower end brand Zenith.

  • @justthepip
    @justthepip Před 3 měsíci

    Feel like a Planet Ocean (Titanium, Ultra Deep, Ceramic, etc.) or TAG Heuer's SuperDiver are probably closer alternatives than the SD4k, but with the uniqueness of the movement and the strap change system, this one's kind of on its own. Very cool watch, and arguably the best release of the year so far.

  • @LanguagesWithAndrew
    @LanguagesWithAndrew Před 3 měsíci +6

    I love it except that it's too thick and I don't want the helium escape valve. You absolutely nailed it when you said they needed to cut the WR to 200-300m and remove the He escape valve. I'm to the point now that I won't even consider a dive watch with more than 300m of water resistance because of the additional thickness and weight that I know it will entail. Nobody who buys these watches needs more than 100m WR or a He escape valve. I'd wager my own money even if this were possible to prove/disprove: not even one person, not one, who has bought such a watch (several-thousand-dollar mechanical dive watch) has ever needed these features (more than 100m WR or a He escape valve). It's ridiculous that manufacturers keep including them.

    • @brandonmcneil3555
      @brandonmcneil3555 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Absolutely! I can’t help but feel like 300 is the new 200. If 200m is REALLY 200m, that’s more than sufficient for virtually everyone. Honestly, beyond 40m visibility plummets big time, and the temperature drops to the point of not being a fun dive anymore.
      I wonder if this is a result of 50m being shower and pools only (aka NOT actually 50m) amount of water resistance? And the helium escape valve is just silly imo. Just open the crown if you are a saturation diver.
      My diver is rated 300m, but when I’m actually diving, all I wear on my wrist is my frogman. 200m on a g-shock is more than anyone will ever need. Literally no one goes 600m. What’s the point?

    • @LanguagesWithAndrew
      @LanguagesWithAndrew Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@brandonmcneil3555 Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 30m the limit for SCUBA on normal air and therefore 99% of recreational divers never go past that depth?

    • @brandonmcneil3555
      @brandonmcneil3555 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Absolutely! PADI advanced open water certification has a 30m limit. Bear in mind that most recreational sites are shallower than that though, because coral etc is found closer to the surface. If you are diving somewhere with a wall, like Saipan, you can go deeper without paying attention. Your guide should stop you (or not even go that deep tbh). But, you’re right: most recreational divers don’t have certification to go deeper than 30 and there’s not much to are at that depth, rendering anything more than 100m to be moot. I get it, it shows technical prowess, but it will never ever be used.

    I find there to be many similarities with my SeaMaster Planet Ocean 45.5mm. Which is currently sporting a khaki Bark & Jack strap. And I absolutely love it. It's a tank. Wearing it intensely since 2010. It's seen construction, diving, biking, all sorts of banging around and it's just indestructible. And yes, I have a larger wrist, so size doesn't matter. As long as it's big. And relevant to this video: I could see me wearing this Extreme Diver as an alternative. Just hope it's as rock solid.... I'm surprised the Planet Ocean didn't feature as a viable option when juxtaposed with the Offshore Diver and the Sea Dweller, since the Omega, in my opinion, makes a really good competitor, in terms of price, the presence of a helium valve and, the quintessential water resistance.

    I was excited for this ... until I saw the 15.6 mm thickness. Wow.

    Flippen gorgeous watch. Would like to see it next to an Omega Planet Ocean.

    Hi @Adrian Barker, what about other alternatives such as the Omega Ultra Deep or IWC Aquatimer?

    Ah, a Doxa brought to you by Zenith.

    The Zenith definitely fits a niche but for a highly finished Luxury dive watch maybe the Glashutte Original Panorama Date as an alternative. It doesn't have the same depth rating but has DIN and ISO certs. No integrated bracelet but a fantastic bracelet.

    I believe aquanaut is 120m water resistance…but no dive bezel.
