I love the easter eggs to Harold originally being a frog throughout the movie. Lillian talking about their dates by the lily pond, the lady frog recognizing him at the tavern. It's great 😂

In retrospect, the Fairy Godmother is even more devious than you'd think initially.
She effectively monopolised the one thinf everyone wants: *A happily ever after*
She fulfills people's wishes, gives them their happy ending and then holds the threat of taking it away over their heads. Forcing them to do things they normally wouldn't.
I mean, as we learn both from this and the later movies, Harold/The Frog Prince is a decent guy but the Fairy Godmother forced him to put his daughter in a tower so Charming could rescue her, pressured him into trying to have Shrek assasinated and then threatened him into slipping a love potion into Fiona's tea to *make her* fall in love with Charming.
Literally the only thing that stopped her from winning was Shrek breaking out and Harold choosing his daughter's happiness over anything she had on him.
Yeah u summed it up well in my opinion She was a better villain than farquad which is saying alot cause he was great too

The "I Need A Hero" sequence is unironically one of the best scenes in animation history.
Also, Shrek 2 is pure gold that expands the universe perfectly while still maintaining the lovable characters, the humor and a beautiful soundtrack.

There is an after credit scene that shows dragon arriving after the party and the reason why she was moody was because she was giving birth to her and donkeys half dragon half donkey babies. An donkey says that he now needs to get a job 🤣 to support them.

The Latin Spanish dub is iconic in its’ own right. Even Antonio Banderas actually got to voice Puss in Spanish and not just for this film.

I watched it for the first time with my sister, and it's so iconic. While watching it, I told her when people saw it in theaters, everyone had a blast, especially with "Holding Out For a Hero" singing scene.

I think one of the best low-key jokes in the whole franchise is the people fleeing Starbucks in terror...and running to the Starbucks across the street.
in Australia we see it differently. it's people running away from Starbucks, it didn't do well in Australia, only Asian tourist go there
Shrek 2 is such an iconic movie! There is indeed a Shrek 3 and a 4th movie. The third movie is generally the least liked by fans but I would still recommend seeing both of these, as fans widely agree that the 4th movie more than makes up for the third :)
I doubt many people younger than their mid 40’s would get donkey’s cry of “I’m coming Elizabeth!” 😂 Unless they are fans of 70’s TV or maybe that brief moment from Family Guy’s spoof of Star Wars. Red Foxx!

They stuck that nice zorro reference in there I didn't notice before. Antonio Banderas was in that movie, too. He was the best addition they could've done for the sequel. This version of holding out for a hero has been used in a lot of fan made music videos. Someone did one with the Endgame fight scenes that is marvelous.

One reason why this one is my favorite Shrek movie out of all the franchise is that it's packed with a gold mine of pop cultural/movie references:
- The part at 2:50 where Shrek and Fiona are kissing on the beach as the wave crashes onto them. That's a nod to the famous beach kissing scene in "From Here to Eternity" (1953) with Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr.
- The glowing ring falling onto Fiona's finger in the opening is parodying Lord of the Rings.
- Fiona wiping mud off of Shrek's lips and kissing him while he's upside-down is an homage to the famous upside-down kiss in "Spiderman" (2002).
- At 18:32, during his entrance, Puss bursts out of Shrek's shirt, which is parodying the infamous alien chestburster scene in "Alien" (1979).
- In the scene where Shrek, Donkey, and Puss are in the potion room, but then they set off the alarm and the run out of the room just as the room door closes on them. Puss grabs his hat just as the door closes down on him, which is a nod to the iconic hat-grab scene in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984) when Indy, Willie, and Short Round are leaving the spike chamber as the door closes on them.
- As Mongo sinks into the moat while breaking into the castle, he says to Gingy, "Be good". This is a famous line in "E.T. the Extra Terrestrial" (1982).
- That song that Donkey was singing as they leave Shrek's swamp towards Far Far Away is the theme to the famous 1950s Western TV show "Rawhide" starring 20-year old Clint Eastwood.
- There are two Wizard of Oz references in this movie: The first is Fairy Godmother's entrance where she's floating in a bubble is a reference to Glinda floating in a bubble when she meets Dorothy in Munchkinland. The second where Donkey screams "I'm melting" when it starts raining is a reference to the Wicked Witch's "I'm melting" scene.
- KNIGHTS is, of course, parodying the famous police TV show COPS.
- Pinnocho hanging on strings as he goes to rescue Shrek, Donkey, and Puss from the dungeon is referencing the famous scene in "Mission Impossible" (1996).
- During the Livin' La Vida Loca finale, Puss sits in a chair, pulls a cord, and a shower of water rains over his body, which is parodying the famous dance scene in "Flashdance" (1983).

Hilarious series of movies. Mike Myers is a Canadian icon and I think now that there was more familiarity with the characters, the writers could go ahead and make a more audience friendly story. This is like a hangout movie now. Hanging out with some really fun people like Shrek, Fiona and Donkey.
If you can get through it, My Girl from 1991 is a terrific movie with a great 60-70s Motown soundtrack you should definitely check out. Nobody spoil it for Leo. It's that good. He should see it for himself. Great film. Macauley Culkin plays the love interest. It's his best role IMHO. My Girl 2 is very good too. I had a crush on the main actress after the second movie. We were around the same age. I was about a year younger. Back then it was Anna Chlumsky, Jessica Alba (she was in Flipper), Myra from Family Matters and later on, Brandy Norwood, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Melissa Joan Hart. I don't discriminate. Hot is hot, especially back then.

In regards to which is the better movie, I'd say I enjoyed Shrek 2 more. Shrek had the better plot and flow to it, but Shrek 2 had better dialogue and involved more characters

When prince charming goes up to the tower to meet fiona and the wolf is laying in her spot . Look at the magazine the wolfs reading . Pork illustrated 😂😂😂😂😂 ... That shit caught me off guard 🤣🤣 ... 1. Shrek 2 is a perfect sequel. The story is great, they continue Shrek's character developement naturally, introduce the ever so iconic Puss in Boots and of course The Fairy Godmother steals every scene she's in.
2. Something that's never stated, but somewhat implied is that it was the Fairy Godmother herself that put the curse on Fiona in an elaborate plot to get Charming his own kingdom
3. There were actually *multiple* hints that King Harold was the Frog Prince.
The lily pads in his and Lilian's bedroom, the circumstance of their first kiss etc.
Hell, you could argue that the biggest hint is his hatred for Shrek. Its not just that he thibks he's bad for her and that it messes up his deal with the Fairy Godmother, but he probably reminds him of himself. Of a time where he didn't think he could be happy and that he wasn't good enough for Lilian without the Fairy Godmother's help.

@@ratedr7845 that was the story she and the rest of the kingdom were told. But the "witch" or the cause of her curse is never mentioned and with how the Fairy Godmother isn't above manipulating people to get what she wants it wouldn't be suprising
You missed the scene at the end of the credits when Donkey and Dragon make up.. and Dragon tells Donkey she was pregnant and he's a father.
Always made me wonder how the potion changed Dragon. I always stuck to the winged Pegasus theory. Keeps her mythic while explaining how they had viable kids.

I’m with you. Fiona’s patents should not have sent her away no matter what. She was not a murderer or anything. She just happens to turn into an ogre. She didn’t choose turn into an ogre….and if she found a good husband, that’s wonderful. For an Ogre Shreck’s got a lot of heart. He loves her.
