I really think that these negative stereotypes come from the idea (usually coming from older generations) that if you’re not gray, sad or negative towards life then you’re naïve and not a real grown up. Like if being depressed is part of growing up…. But it isn’t 😅

I have been without a job for almost 2 months and my joy has been buying Kuromi things every week . I haven't been able to do that so I started sinking deeper into depression. I consider Kuromi to be a dear friend to me because I'm mostly alone. I had to let go of another toxic friend lately. Kuromi never leaves me or hurts me. I feel safe with her

Fr, this feels relatable, here a Moppu or Marumofubiyori fan who loves to collect Marumofubiyori things to find comfort and motivation with them while struggling with my depression and anxiety problems, like I have a hyperfixation with Sanrio, that brand have a lot of comfort characters for me, bc of their design, background story or a mix of both, this is kinda related with therapeutic art bc you can see those characters represented in art(illustrations, songs, animations and even the merchandise can consider as a form of art) so it's valid finding comfort in this characters, I hope you can find a balance between bad and good feelings, the same for being alone and having company, fr I'm scared of being alone always bc a lot of ppl hurted me and then they just go, but eventually with help of ur comfort character (Kuromi in ur case) you will carry on and eventually find good relationships and won't leave us alone I hope.

3:21 i'm a 16yo brazilian my melody fan, i love her, and i wish i could find more products of her that isn't so expensive in Brazil.. i quite relate to that, i got bullied since i was little and got some daddy issues, since my father never actually cared about me, and i spent 10 years of my life without knowing *who* was my father, i got diagnosed with both anxiety and depression.
4:59 i might be consider selfish sometimes, i'm quite greedy, i'm very clingy, maybe even a 'pick me' towards people i really love! and i used to force myself to act happy and energetic around other people, now i quite do this unconsciously, sometimes it does help me, and sometimes makes me feel empty.

I think that this claim saying that people who like Sanrio or stuff related are mentally unstable is a bunch bullcrap. As you said, it really is a stereotype created by people who don't accept freedom of lifestyle. Simply, these people are in a empire that wants to exterminate such good content that others destroy. I've personally view Melody as one of my favorite characters. If it's war this "empire" wants, god the internet may never be safe for a long time. It's terrorism but on the internet. I've also noticed people against Melody claiming that fans are in a cult. Ridiculous right? I think if we don't stop this online threat, then digital war is inevitable and especially kids who like Sanrio won't be safe from threats and mockery, or even online bullying. Sanrio is for everyone to enjoy. It's universal. Hello Kitty even appeared in the Chucky series as a reference. We all are normal stable people. We can't let these narcissist facist control freaks ruin things for us.

@phantomxero1x447 Though there are insane people who worship fictional characters, what I'm trying to say is it's ok to like Sanrio and fans deserve more respect than just stereotyping them and cyber attacking fans in general. I have heard of the 1999 Hello Kitty murders but that doesn't mean that the chracter is satanic or anything. It's the person's fault. I respect all who likes Sanrio the same way I respect others.

Tbh I think how Sanrio reactioned was epic, giving powerful words of encouragement for who needs to hear or read them is really kind. Leaving that positive situation of the side, I think tbh that some fans of Sanrio Characters in general can struggle with these feelings (not only MyMelo fans) and I know my melody is one of the most popular characters (for me she's almost the same popular that Hello Kitty) so I can understand why ppl thinks My melody lovers don't enjoy a good mental health but I think this is more related with the generation topic, and before you think I'm a boomer, nope I'm part of the generation that came after millennials (I just forgot the name sorry) and I mean generation bc there's something called generational trauma where everyone is sadly a victim but there are some ways to cope with the situation and a pov abt it, for example a part of the millennial generation (saying this bc I consider this generation kinda splited with their pov) and the recent generations have been normalizing talking abt mental health, autism and other topics, that's why you see a lot of Sanrio lovers passing through a similar situation, bc of generational trauma. But leaving that pov aside, I just wanted to say this video was really interesting, thx for sharing it with the Fandom and mentioning some things My Melody fans share.

Hi! I found your videos through a friend and I find them very interesting! I saw you review and talk about the “My Melody’s Mom” controversy and I’d LOVE to see you look at and tackle Bad Badtz Maru anime. I found it recently and got instantly hooked to the character and his show. Only five episodes by what I’ve found are available on YT and they’re all in different languages. Only one is in English. Due to it being done in 1993 the show has had some semi disturbing scenes. Such as hints to intense violence, pet abuse, gambling, smoking, swearing, etc. Which is due to do being in a different timeline. Regardless of this I adore the show and would love to see it and Badtz get a video!

I think depending each show they are different ages.

This is such a informative video. Thanks for sharing. I think in general liking Sanrio may not indicate any mental health issues however the check list does relate in some way or the other. For example Sanrio can fill void in life at times which results in buying the items excessively. However Sanrio overload in the room personally does not always mean mental issues. I do agree pink and Sanrio equals happiness. Just using and seeing cute stuff makes most girls happy. I do see many Instagram users over buying from personal shoppers in japan which is shopping addiction. I had spent tons too and when I added it all up it was nuts. I overall definitely agree with this video. How is your room today have you reduced the my melody items?

This is so weird… Because I noticed My Melody girls all have a similar aesthetic, and so I’ve always gravitated AWAY from My Melody for that reason… 😅 I don’t know what that says about me, that maybe I hold some sort of prejudice towards the specific mental health issues that my Melody fans have? 🤔 Or… If I simply get easily burnt-out on the color pink. 😂
There definitely is an unrealistic aspect to a lot of these super pink-and-white spaces, that to me at least, feels a bit unnatural… I love my Melody as a character, and love the way she is portrayed in Hello Kitty’s SuperCute Adventures… But, yeah… I definitely associate her with trauma core and stuff designed for babies. My Melody themed rooms, to me, seem like adult nurseries. I wish they would add more natural colors, like amber woods and bright greens, colors that compliment the color pink… That at least would make these rooms less disturbing to me.
This is a really interesting subject, though! 😊 And I wonder if all Sanrio characters say similar things about the personalities of their fans? That is to say, I wonder if certain fans gravitate towards certain characters for the same reasons? I’ve always been a Keroppi fan, and always wondered why he wasn’t more popular? I associate him with being “cool” more than “cute,” though he’s not like Bad Badtz Maru cool. More like Sunshine Pop cool.
I don’t know what that says about me as a person… But I wonder if because Keroppi is less popular, or at least less marketed, he appeals to individuals who don’t quite fit in either, (?) or who at least have less time/money to collect merchandise. (For example, more casual Sanrio fans and collectors.) What I love about Sanrio is they have so many characters that fit so many different moods, so you never have to limit yourself to just one! Great video, BTW! I’m glad that My Melody has become a proponent for mental health and wellness. It seems like Sanrio handled this association (whether true or not) perfectly! Since she’s become like an ambassador for these issues. 🌸💖

Well I mainly like Cinnamoroll a lot cause I relate to him quite a bit. I’m not mentally unstable for him or something like that, I just think he’s a sweet and huggable pup.

I know that I've come across people that say they think it's weird that I like hello Kitty sanrio. They will say stupid things like what do you think you're 12 years but in all sincerity I really don't care. I love hello Kitty since I was a child I Love My Melody keroppi tuxedo Sam definitely kuromi, I mean my list could go on. Everyone's always got to say something negative about something that people love it's those people I think that need helped they have a problem. And our rooms should be a safe haven they should be a place that we can decorate and be happy and feel safe and in our homes as well even our cars if our cars have my melody all over them or hello Kitty or flowers or whatever the case maybe that should be our own choice. So just do what makes you happy.

Do I love Kuromi and other Sanrio characters? Yes. Am I in my 30's? Yes. Do I suffer from mental illness? Yes. But the thing is, I don't care because I'm not hurting anybody and everyday it seems like the world is coming to an end. So what's wrong with finding joy in something like a Sanrio character? It's the little things in life that make life easier to deal with and as long as you're not hurting anybody, who cares? Also neurodivergent people get so much shit in this world and plushies are one of the ways some of us find solace. So many of us mask for other people's comfort that we lose touch with ourselves, so for people to say we're selfish is ridiculous because we go through our whole lives trying to make other people comfortable. Are there some selfish people who love these characters? Duh, of course. But painting all of us with a broad brush stroke is stupid and shows a severe lack of empathy. People need to mind the business that pays them.

About jirai kei, it's not actually a fashion. The fashion people usually call jirai kei, is actually dark girly. Jirai-kei is more of a subculture/community which is mainly focused on mental illness.

That checklist is the world this society. Let's put this into perspective over 15k nuclear weapons on this planet that people voted to spend zillions of dollars making in a made up system this species invented on a planet we don't own trashing everything with subpar products. That's depressing and unhinged in itself.
The escapism the colors boast their mood is really what's going on in their psychology. I'd say my concern over mass shootings for example especially in schools to the homelessness happening to people being outpriced from living is more of a problem to focus on than some made up characters. It's an art style that inspire ls yet, can lead to over consumption my concern is for the workers behind those products to the environmental impact in dumbnomics.
My hatred for guns lead to me being labeled mentally ill to hatred for domestic violence to SA. Pointing these issues out and pointing out we people are the problem can improve as a female got me further trauma. Those images are soothing to many.
More creeped out over manga and anime- certain ones than Sanrio. My concerns over human trafficking as well huge issue as many who see the sweet Sanrio images seems predators utilize that as bait for those already vulnerable. Making an informed decision on anything we buy or consume forming a marketplace such as that seems wiser to focus on as well as ensuring those products aren't filled with lead other unnecessary chemicals which is a bigger problem than people just liking those images expressing themselves.
