    I grew up in East Harlem & everything he said was spot on. That dead end with St.Anns & the nuns was a dangerous spot because it was never lit. A lot of people didn’t know the chopped cheese originated on 110th & 1st so I’m glad he said that.

    Puerto Rican’s have been so important to the development of NYC culture. They were the first Latinos to migrate in large numbers to NYC and they brought all their Caribbean sazón with them to share with the rest and to help shape the city, boricuas will always have my love and respect 🇵🇷😍💙.

    Respect, I’m NuyoRican from BXNYC. In NYC my headspace was always on “no hope” when I joined to serve in the USAF it changed me made me believe in hope. It opened up my world view serving my Country. I still go back to the BX and talk my gente to get out of ur comfort zone. I’m still NEW YORK.

    I remember the movie Strapped. I know the movie was based in Brooklyn, but I never knew it was shot in Harlem. Good tour of the p's and you got Foster and Taft right next door.

    I spent 2 years in East Harlem as a missionary. When I go to New York now with other people they never understand why I couldn’t care less about anything but going up past 100th street and Lexington and hitting up the bodegas and hanging out with all the good people there in Harlem. I saw some crazy shit when I was walking and knocking doors in all those projects but man I miss and love the people of Spanish Harlem. The Dominicans and Puerto Ricans especially, good food! Great people! Thanks for taking me back with this video!

    I went to school here, MCSM. It’s nice to see the neighborhood again, so many memories. He wasn’t lying about the chop cheese sandwiches, they are the best. I used to get the BLT or chopped cheese from the deli after school almost everyday. Also the dude was on point, he really knows his stuff. Great video!

People love always talk about the few that bring negativity.. but if u live there or frequent there you know the projects are full of great hard working people just trying to live 💯.       This area is always interesting to me. They got CitiBikes outside of those projects posted up lol. I don’t think I would’ve seen that in a million years. I always chuckle when I see… “out of towners” bopping through the hood with their backpacks looking at folks in their “natural habitat” lol. It’s so odd. Gentrification has already taken over a good chunk of Harlem. Even in the most hood spots there’s some brunette from Texas who “loves Harlem” and claims it like they’re born n raised. Or some transplant from North Carolina who wants to get closer to their “black roots” after learning how to be black in college lol.
