Awesome video! Straight to the point and no extra fluff. I don't think I need this yet, but if I get one more lawn care tool that has a blade, I might actually consider this.
Please keep up the good work!!!

Yes Dony we are, Summer officially starts on the 1st of December. We are currently experiencing beautiful spring weather with temps in the low 20s. The lawn has to be mowed about twice a week. The clocks switched to daylight saving last weekend. I love this time of the year.

Great Video. I bought one of these and I didn't realise how big the item was until I opened it. I was really happy to see the high quality of manufacture too. I got it for $66 on Amazon, then a few days later the price went up to $93. Hahaha. I got a bargain and this tool will last forever unlike the garbage that comes out of China.

    • @scotta9114

I bought mine a couple of years ago and it was $84. Now today, they are $100. The Mag balancer is much nicer but typically over $200. I noticed it is $163 now on AMZN. But I don't balance blades for a living, just a homeowner.

    • @tonymontana897
      @tonymontana897 Před 2 lety

@@scotta9114 The prices on Amazon fluctuate a lot. I'm not sure if this is Amazon pulling the strings or the sellers. It's a big mystery to me how the same product price seems to move with supply and demand and it's like there is an algorithmic AI behind it. I bought a product off Amzn, and two weeks later the price literally doubled and for no good reason either. Then, after another two weeks, the price went back to it's original price. Go figure.
I'm glad you're happy with your blade balancer. It is a top quality item from Oregon.
      Cheers, from Sydney, Australia !

    Hi there,
I just added one of these to my shop. I did find one issue and then the answer. I tried it on a three hole blade with a .635 inch center hole. I mounted it on the balancer with the flat side toward the magnets. It would not lay flat on the magnets. I then flipped the blade over so that the raised edges were toward the magnet ring, worked perfectly.

I bought one of these balancers. Once you get used to using it, it is way better than the cheap stepped cones. If you sharpen a lot of blades I recommend getting this. Check your new blades too before use. You'd be surprised to find out they aren't as perfectly balanced as you think. This balancer can tell if you left the sales sticker on it. Tip: if you have a cheap MIG welder you can weld to the back side of the lift wings to add weight to the light end as opposed to removing material.

over the years I've used several balancers from cheap to some priced close to this one, I settled down with a simple 1/2" or 5/8" drill stock about 4" long, have drill stock laying on a near perfect surface, lay the blade down on it centered by the mounting hole, out of balance shows up immediately, make adjustments accordingly as you show here, regards

For those of you who are considering this unit and or the Mag-1000, i can say the Mag-1000 is significantly better. Also, i would like to point out that when i bought this blade balancer, i noticed there was a bit of a rough spot on it. Some reviews on amazon were saying the same thing. The bearings can be replaced but i feel for that price, it should be perfect i ended up returning it and getting the Mag-1000. and yes, this balancer is probably overkill for the average home owner with a average lawn.

  • @goaheadmakeourdayscooterpe9644

Use that same balancer and its amazing how far off even brand new blades are off and how you can see the difference at the belt bouncing on a 3 blade zero turn deck before and after balancing.

Awesome review ! Wish you would have rotated the blade onto the other side just to show the results are the same on both sides of the tool. That way you can validate that the tool is not giving false readings. In this case I am sure the results would have been the same and that the blade would have lowered mounting it on the right side after verifying it lowered while on the left side. Nice tool for sure but unless you do an awful lot of blade sharpening quite expensive. Thanks for posting!

Simply saying that you've had mowers for X amount of years doesn't really say anything specific. Check to make sure the blade isn't bent first... Some are hard to get back to factory, so cheaper just to toss it and buy new. I sell the bent ones to knifemakers... Waste of time to do anything else... Then wire wheel, sharpen the edges, then balance.
This balancer was well the worth the $80.00 I paid for it... And I fix mowers to earn extra cash for fun and as a hobby.

Tubalcain/mr.pete here on CZcams taught me that vertical objects aren't level, they are plum. A floor will be level, but a wall is plum if it's straight up and down. A plumbob is used to check that an object is straight up and down. I never knew. Just passing on the info since you seem similar to me in making sure everything is perfect. You and I are the few people who torque everything down in an even pattern.

If the blade is unbalanced, take off extra material on the back portion of the blade and not the sharpened side so as to extend the life of the blade.

If you are mowing 500 square feet you probably don't need one, but a lot of us have larger lawns and have to sharpen our blades several times a year. This is a lot cheaper than replacing spindles, plus it's just a proper way of doing things.
