Another fun podcast 😂😂😂. I think here in South Australia all the lamb is our own, both in supermarkets, butchers and farmers' markets. I hope Iona you will be coming back to co-host the podcast after your holiday, have a great time! Looking forward to hearing your father on the show, Cammy seems a bit in awe of him 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩.
Another great one Cammy and Iona. Very interesting stats on Lamb !!!!
Oh, and please get your hernia sorted Cammy 🥰
cammy when you have to go for a pee you got to go my ribs hurt from laughing 😂
Great travel story ..Iona's laugh should be available on the NHS..aye i agree on the lamb selling ..personally feel that the problem with lamb is thats its hard to market because of the name , I mean you dont buy calf or piglet ,you buy cuts.I took lambs to a Beltex carcass competition years ago and there was a New Zealand buyer present and he was in awe at the quality and the kill out of the lambs and said that NZ lambs could not compete with the finish and high value cuts of these lambs , however their advantage was scale and less labour requirements. Above all marketing starts at home ..improved breeding husbandry and selective selling .
Cammy talking about how dry the land is in Devon while where I am in Devon (north Dartmoor) we're on heavy clay with ground so wet you can only rent it for 6 months of the year 😂 the ground in south Devon is special though.
I remember years ago in school doing a project on food miles and we had to calculate the milage of our Sunday dinner. The teacher wouldnt believe we had lamb from only 2 miles away (it came from the farm down the road) she told me it probably came from NZ. That was probably 15 years ago and it was already unusual to have British lamb.
Like your lamb argument ,never thought of that and the QMS chairperson is my farming next door neighbour
Please invest in a clock to put on the wall opposite you Cammy so you don’t have to keep looking to the side of you! 😂
Oh god, here we go....the pee bottle 😂😂
Plain waffles are perfection. 😂
We had Ayrshire lamb for Christmas dinner. Got it from the wee butcher in Troon, I asked where it was from & the butcher showed me the tag.
I would never buy New Zealand lamb because the food miles is stupid.
I get your point about New Zealand lamb.
However what is you opinion on supermarkets "loss leading" fruit and vegetables? (Did you see Olly Blogs rant this week?)
Was thinking about what you were saying about Scottish/UK lamb and went to the Google to see why we do not see Canadian lamb in grocery stores. All we have is NZ lamb. Only places you will find Canadian lamb is in a butcher shop or at farmer's markets. Reason - price. Canadian lamb is around twice the price of NZ lamb. Very similar to what you are seeing in Scotland. Oh and the peeing in the bottle story had me laughing while making dinner (beef, not lamb, but local produce).
In Canada we just don't produce enough to supply the market and that has a lot to do with cost of production but another major factor is that a large percentage of the immigrants coming here eat lamb so the market is expanding faster than production .43 years ago we supplied about 50% of the market . Now we supply about 35%.
@@glennkelley6096that would be the demand from Muslim migrants. NZ lamb is the healthier option, being grass fed.
I guess we can forget having a Cooking with Cammy show. In America, especially in the south, you can rarely find lamb and if you do, it's so expensive. It's a shame. If there was more lamb on the shelves, beef producers would have to come down on their prices to make it affordable again. Beef prices are extremely high in just the last two years. There needs to be more competition.
Lenor 3L fabric conditioner bottle. 😉
We had beef and a joint of ham, yummy 😊
We always have turkey for Thanksgiving. I make the best turkey gravy. Also, the birds are grown locally. You just shove it in the oven. My husband doesn't cook either.
Nz lamb wont be flying the cost will be in the fact it need shipping and there for freezing, so is prob hard to get to market.
On the lamb- is it market saturation? As in they have produced so much that the price is driven down (bit like milk was a few years ago)? I don't know what our (Scotland) production numbers are compared to NZ. Look forward to hearing the podcast with the explanation
That wasn't an Als jingle there was it? 😂
😂😂😂 I just can;t stop laughing. I'm not sold on climate change though, I pretty sure Jesus controls the weather.
Cammy when you gotta go you gotta go, lol
You cant beat NZ lamb
The best product in the world. Ex sheep farmer here who got regular mention in the market report. Credit where credit’s due.
We did ham and brisket .
Love Brisket
Cammy did your mammy no teach you about air in a bottle, you always take air out your hot water bottle when you fill it 🤣🤣🤣
Dorset has been almost as wet as you, our Salers cows and spring and Autumn calves are still out - running on rape/turnips (for another 2 weeks. Blue tongue is reported in Norfolk, Suffolk and Kent - it is a big worry to us all in the south.
Sounds hellish. Hope we get a cold snap soon!
Blue tongue is spread by particular species of midges, not by flies.
Our population on a whole don't care about food and quality they just want cheap or super convenience like Uber Eats, Fast Food etc, In Europe they prioritise food far more so they are willing to pay more, they also have far better cooking skills and food knowledge
Peegate 😂
😂😂
Peeing in a bottle I can live with but not cleaning the cheese grater! 🤢🤮. Does Lizzy know? Surely she’d frown at that?
I think she's gave up on me lol
Central markets are controlled. Spokes people for these markets have to maintain the appearance of true market forces.
Better that you first, enter the super makets in Europe, and record your findings.
Basically, what is going on here.
We are reviewing an existing system.
The net result of the existing system.
The farmer is just surviving financially.
The consumer is struggling to afford the product.
The middle party is shipping the product all over the globe, clipping the ticket for each stage of the process. Transport, abattoirs etc
People are having to make consessions for global warming, and yet the central market system is business as usual, and additional costs get passed on to the consumers.
Seems like we need a new system.
Surface observation looks like, if we remove the non sensacle middle player, there is hope for another way of doing things.
We should go back to the pre EU system when the Annual Price Review Guarantee was in place.
