We head to Big Bear for this Trail Takeover and meet up with a ton of rigs for some off roading! Wranglers, Broncos, Gladiators, and even a Ram! But when our Jeep breaks, we end up having to leave it stranded on the trail instead!
Hope you all enjoy the video! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
People say hearing a grizzly bear is scary or lions is scary which no doubt they are but man that sound is what scares me the most...not the part breaking sound but the wife responding to the part breaking sound lol
Hahahaha. Best comment ever!!
@@LiteBrite Truth.
Big shoutout to Kevin for always finding new ways to make Chris keep his job! XD
Gotta do what I can man
@@boughtnotbuiltoffroad7784 ... and you're doin' _GREAT!_ 🤘🏻
Very true!! Haha
“You were not suppose to do stupid sh!t today” 🤣🤣
Brittany has such a smooth touch finding just the right expression... so eloquent !!
This event was a blast! I don’t think I would have had the confidence to even attempt something like Mottino Wash without the benefit of seeing the others go before me and you guys and everyone who came along to spot for us. Thanks so much for running these events and I’d recommend them to anyone.
You did awesome!!
Mottino wash is definitely gnarly. I did it when I was on 31s and it was a struggle. Also got my first body damage on that trail.
Aluminum tierods are awesome when they show how they bend under a rock and spring back like nothing ever happened but that same flex when the front is locked and you're trying to steer over an obstacle that put loads against the wheels not only is ugly but can take the rod ends as well. Look in the video in slow motion as Kevin tries to steer driver. The passenger wheel is going driver as Kevin wants BOTH wheels to go driver , but the driver wheel gets cocked towards the inside while the tierod is flexing like a biatch. Not a fan of aluminum tierods. Yes they're big and shinny oh and they flex for sure. Bla bla bla.
The anti-flip on that rod end will make it weaker. But looking at where it broke, you can see some tiny voids, and a really large grain structure. Which suggest a poor forging job. They will definitely want to talk to their manufacturer.
I thought big grain too! Soon as it was shown. Like what the,,,, is that cast!?!?!? Nah no way... Kevin making the rod into a frown then sawing on it might have not helped.
All of the previous beatings.....metal never forgets. I have broke a few sector shafts that were cracked for long periods of time before failure. I have a specific technique I use to inspect after hard rides now.
Definitely overheated in the hardening process if that is supposed to be forged steel. Looks more like cast with that monster grain! This coming from a knife maker who does heat treat all the time.
@@bobbywalter5320 can you share your inspection procedure?
I think so too. Just a bad part from the beginning. The manufacturer will want to see that.
Pretty sweet you guys do trails with groups like today's video. I can see that you guys boosted some of the peoples confidence and they got to actually see what there rigs are capable of and see there new parts and money working. It would be cool for you guys to take newbies out with stock or very little upgraded vehicles. People just getting into the dirt hobby. Love all the content. Keep rocking!
Your team gets to have some of the most fun. Living in midwest we are flat and muddy. My wife is happy we don't live out west because I would be right there with you! You 2 are living the life of fun and adventure. Be safe
Brit cracks me up "Kevin you weren't supposed to do dumb things today" I love it.
Great video. Love the diversity of vehicles. Little trail break,no worries!! Still a great day. Thanks for sharing guys
😊🤙
Had the best time with all of you. Thanks again so much for all of your help. I learned a ton.
So happy you joined us and had a blast!! You did great!! 😊🤙
Excellent. Good at 12:20, 24:20. Back way to Big Bear. Many pretty stock jeeps did really good. Thanks for sharing.
Pretty easy to see, the rod ends are way too long. They need to be as short as possible and the big beafy ally bar needs to be as long as possible, giving just enough length to the rod ends for adjustment. The way it it there's massive leverage against the thread on the rod end, which is so much narrower and weaker than the rest of it.
My Barnes aluminum steering linkage uses a longer aluminum bar and shorter tierod ends. I do like to see how much flex is in the aluminum bars when compared to the steel bars and not stay deformed. They always bounce back in to stock form.
@@toddhoffmaster6057 Barnes stuff is just good. It’s that simple
I broke my aluminum fusion on the Rubicon and I don't think I was doing really that much to it it broke right where the rod end goes in to the aluminum bar. It has a lifetime warranty so they did send me out a new bar and the tie rod ends I got are inch and a half offset and I guess they make a 2 inch offset . I think I'll keep my inch and a half offset. 👌
Dear Brittany, I get so enthused by your lil videos that I forget Kevins default is to try break everything,
but on this occasion he just proved that untested is just that !
Great to see a succesful event with a little jelly love too 😊😉
One of the few times it’s left you stranded! Crazy to see those gladiators kicking ass out there
Great video!!!!!!!!! Nice to see the ladies out their riding!
Happy New Year y’all!! Exited to see this awesome channel grow in 2022,cheers y’all!!
Happy New Year!
I love seeing y’all film the bad with the good. Shows everyone that no matter how much money we sink in our rigs, something, somewhere can always break. It’s the nature of the beast. Happy new year 🎆 🎊 and keep keepin on guys!!
I foresee Brit giving Kevin a lot of shit for a while about snapping the brand new tie rod. lol keep on truckin guys
Awesome showing from all of you.
These are my favorite video's, you guys and Jelly out wheeling, I hate when new "beefier" parts break sometimes bigger isn't always better, I used to have issues like that from my days off riding and racing dirt bikes.😳 I love Jelly he's an awesome trail dog!🐕👍
Wow! that was amazing! Great Job! Happy and Blessed New Year!
Thankfully there was plenty of competent help to get you back on the trail. Everybody did great and Jelly had a blast too.
🐶❤️
Happy New Year!!!He said that was a sucky spot , pop 😬 it's great to see Jelly doing her part helping out with trail maintenance , she's amazing!!!!♥️♥️💯🤙
🐶❤️
@@LiteBrite how old is Jelly ?
Happy New Year 🎊🎆
Sad to see new parts break like that. Guess was more stress on it than the old way
So good to see so many JT out enjoying the trails.
Looked like everyone (except Kevin) had a great day.
Even Kevin had a great day. It was an awesome time on the trail overall, broken toe rod included. 😊
I love Sunday’s here in the UK cos that’s when Lite Brite upload a video 😁😁. I keep saying it but i love you guys and love to watch ur videos. I’m really into RC Rock Crawling but this is way better to watch than someone hitting the trails with a RC, never ever thought i would say that 👍🏻
You really have me hooked. Happy New Year Lite Brite and cant wait to see what is planned for 2022. 🤙🏻🤙🏻❤️❤️
Great video especially enjoyed seeing an XJ representing on the trail! I did this trail back in the 90’s when I lived in California
Awesomeness video....great time on the trail and had had by all.....glad everyone had a blast...unfortunate Stepchild had a boo-boo....but master tech Chris to the rescue....Becks Tj....looks awesome (maybe a walk-around in the future for more content) .....Jelly was having a blast....Brittany calm cool and collected with Kevin's unfortunate decision making that day.....egarly awaiting your next video....Safe travels
You're very old
I think you are correct about the placement of the ram, in the slow mo you can see the tie rod bowing out forward of the vehicle. Looks like it was placing pressure both sideways and forward causing it to snap.
HAPPY NEW YEAR Lite Brite Nation!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😁
And that totally sucks that you broke the tie rod end,Glad ya made it off the trail Safely, maybe some day I'll get to make a run with Ya'll!😁😁
It always amazes what the nearly stock Jeeps will go through. Thanks for the vid.
Watching the video, you can see the toe going in before it breaks. Lots of weight was on that tie rod before it broke
What a blast! (Or should I say “Pop!). Poor Kevin - that look of a kid getting scolded, by momma Brittney. Fantastic group and rigs! Enjoyed seeing the Dodge Truck! Built it, Wheel it,Break it, fix it! That’s what friends are for. We need the rest of this trip! LiteBriteNationPopRocks!
😊🤙
That's so awesome that you are teaching so many people first hand how to correctly hit the trails : )
yes how to correctly break a tierod by dragging it across a rock.. haha
@@leokeffalas3143 LOL!!!
I don’t even have a trail rig ( wish I did ) but I love watching your guys videos. No matter if it’s trails or your house I just enjoy the energy you guys have.
I think you’re right on about the angle pressure from the psc. I bet a correction there will solve that tie rod issue.
Awesome wheeling vid!
Thanks so much for a Fantastic weekend, we pushed our Overlanding rig and earned some trail scars (the real badge of honor). We are ready for the next adventure.
😊🤙
Hey kids! Another fun filled exciting 2nd., day of the new year!
Yeah..., Kevin broke the Step Child's toe, but Chris will make it all better... .
Great spotting again Brit...! Maybe...., 1 of these days I'll join your party of fun.
You guys rock...!
That was insane !! Keep going I'm finally about to pull the trigger on rockin !!!
I have missed my 2016 JK and pulled
The trigger on a 2022 JL Rubicon 2 DOOR build ! watching you guys , has brought that FIRE back, and I'll be ready to go, I'll need to find some places to go IOWA is a flat lander's nightmare !! 😂🇺🇸
Just finished signing up on your website. Hope to join you guys on the next trail ride in SoCal. I’ll see you guys on the lakebed for KOH.
@14:49 - I cracked up so bad I started tearing up a wee bit - "Momma bear laying down the reality!" Good stuff!
New just means not used, it does not mean it is good. Have a Happy New Year and stay safe and healthy.
So cool to see Kevin find wings and open up as a narrator. I know historically he has been a shy guy, certainly at first. These days sessions of trial and error with Chris and jeep shenanigans really add a new dynamic to otherwise already amazing content.
Also so stoked to see that jeep trucks can handle these trails. I am inching closer and closer to trading my tacoma for a gladiator and this just gives me extra confidence to see guys tackling this sort of stuff.
I had a blast wheeling with you guys. I was happy that the bronco was able to hang in its stock form. But it's definitely time for some upgrades. Looking forward to future adventures. #tortuga #righteous 🐢
You killed it, man! It was great having you on the trail!! 😊🤙
Watching the video, I think when your front end fell off that rock it stressed that tie rod. You fell right onto the tie rod, it bent a good two to three inches, making the weak point that driver-side tie rod end. You came down fairly hard, and that was a lot of weight transferred to the end. So, while that wasn't a particularly harder obstacle than anything else you have ever done... you were at a really weird articulation angle there and your spotter was not making it any easier for you.
Nice to see the xj climbing. I'd like to see a mix of newer jeeps and broncos as well as some older Cherokees or Toyotas in your vids.
Looks like so much fun. Great group of people.👍👍
I am out here in Jersey. Last two years my cross country road trip got screwed due to the COVID. Maybe this year things will work out. Hopefully you'll have a rig with Jersey tags on one of your trail adventures.
Another great trail ride! Looked like a lot of fun. One day I’ll join you guys. Sorry about the tie rod. You know what they say: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Maybe you should have just kept the old one until it broke. Hopefully the stepchild will be back to good again soon.
I would love to see you guys wheel the step child with brads from trailrecon jk. Would like to see how 39s do vs 40s!
Happy new year lite brute nation!
Jelly sighting!!!!!
What a great trail for your group, Escape roads to cater for different abilities in driver and/or vehicle. Added to this the briliant communication to the spotters, fantastic stuff. letting the driver what theyre about to feel at each corner. But remember, rock sliders before light bars. Because everyone is going to be tackling 4 foot rocks... As a side notem those Gladiators look amazing, the 9 year old in me wants one.
I love that Chis repeats himself so calmly lol and that Kev is just like o well all in good fun. You guys are awesome.
WOW! Sorry that happened to you. Keep us informed on what they find out with the break.
Kudos to the gal with the manual👍👍
Bad ass.
I never would never have guessed that that that tie rod would break like that. It is huge.
Loved the video, like to watch these kind of videos. Sorry the jeep broke that sucks but it's the first time I've seen the stepchild break during a video. It's cool so many gladiators where there, also enjoyed watching the bronco it's funny how a jeep had to pull it out. Have to say that I've never seen a dodge pickup wheeling like that, that was different and cool to see, I never would have tired it in that. Trails definitely bad on tires. Would be cool if jeep would make a gladiator Rubicon recon 392.
Happy New Year. May this year be great‼️
Happy New Year!
Love those Gladiators. When Brit says no stupid stuff today, you did it perfect. Wait till she's not looking and go do man stuff. You kids are awesome. It is beautiful to see the fun you have together.
Thanks for the post mortem on the tie rod break. You assessment about the angle on the steering assist ram makes a lot of sense with regards to the vector of force applied to the end of the tie rod. The break does look like a structural flaw in the lattice of the steel though so your suspicion that it could have been multiple factors sees very plausible. I hope you will update us on what the results at the lab are.
If we get an update on the broken pieces, we’ll definitely update!
@@LiteBrite Thanks!
This was a great to see all types of jeeps out having fun and I also am inching closer hopefully to owning a Jeep kind of thinking Gladiator just haven’t decided Gas or Diesel🤷♂️ and Kevin being the Sacrificial Lamb so go speak. You could see the raw surprise in his eyes when he broke but.. Britney did not miss a beat reminding Kevin about not doing not smart things…🤣🤣 and then you all chuckling about it afterwards. And Chris will always have job security 🤣
Love to see the gladiators doin it!
Looks like its time to go to heims! Thats a gnarly break🤘
Kachow!! Excellent filming as always!!
Crazy cool trail. Bummer broken parts but it happens.
The goodyears on the bronco look like they hook up good
Great video !! Rockin ... I learned a long time ago to stop breaking my jeeps (sponge bob and Larry ) .Lol... cost to much to fix , even though I do all my own repairs I guess if you have sponsors to help with cost its ok but daaaam' nice video kept me watching . Thanks..
What’s up at the beginning I saw an XJ! That’s what I have and love it! Yet we didn’t see any video of him crawling!! But there was video and f him saving other people and winch towing them out!! Give some XJ love peeps!!
What a chunk of metal to snap. I honestly thought at first that maybe the failure was at the knuckle where it was drill out. HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, that looked fun, it's nice to see people using their off-roaders for what they were meant for...
Bad heat treat is what I'm going with.
I was hoping to see Beck's Jeep wheel. I bet y'all were a little mad about that braking. Had such high hopes when ya installed it. Thanks for your adventures I enjoy them. Keep it up. ✌️😎
Sinc nobody in my area had Omni wrap But I had 3/4” clear vinyl hose. And I carefully started at one end and spiral cut to the other. It actually cut easily Then just twist on around the hydraulic lines.
Great video thank you!
We need a "short" of Jelly biting the stick in ultra slow motion...yeah 😁👍
That fracture looks like a Brittle fracture where perpendicular force is applied. So your Ram set up along with the deformation of the aluminum tie rod and the length of the forged end, could have allowed enough side loading to sheer it off.
Here's something to consider to protect the hydraulic hose: Pre-Cut Spiral Wrap Hose Protector, 1.0" OD, 25' Length, Black; purchased from Amazon. The hard plastic protects better and resists abrasion, and it's super-simple to install.
Here at 4wheelparts we carry front and rear bumpers for the Broncos
Kevin listening to maroon 5 while driving back in shame of a broken end link to heal his broken heart
Lol perfect timing
Also shout out to the mosaic the only xm station that’ll play frickin play hootie and the blowfish
Ill definitely check it out and go out with you guys
18:31 Best line ever. " You're gonna back up, get a Jeep and then come forward"
Perfect execution, "Hey Kevin, you mind moving cuz that's the line I was gonna take..." "Is it? Sorry..." 👌🤣
That’s definitely something that needs to be diagnosed, if it was faulty, imagine if you hit an unexpected pothole on the highway and that snapped? That would be an unconsolidated nightmare, I’m sure the company/manufacture will figure this problem out, thank goodness you had all that help with you. I wish I could keep a smile on my face like you guys when things break Great video you guys👍
The whole weight of the jeep was on it. It wouldn't snap from just a pot hole. You can watch it bend before it breaks
Michael Sullivan that’s correct the weight of the vehicle was on it and thank God it snapped there, the point I was trying to make was it could’ve happened on the way home if it was already stressed and the reason I bring that up is because it happened to my best friend coming back from a trip something similar, the part is heavy duty and it broke at the stress point right where the nut is tightened. Not saying it was a bad part at all, just glad it didn’t happen unexpectedly somewhere else at high speed. Also the reason I stated the manufacturer will examine it is because they sent it back to the manufacture to do test on the metal. Happy 2022 to you✌🏻
A couple of points from an armchair engineer.
The rod end with the fracture mode appears to be extremely hard, as in overly hardened during heat treating.
Not having the tie rod in hand for inspection, however high stress parts that are threaded don't use a cut thread but a rolled thread. The root of the thread is a stress riser on a cut thread, while a rolled thread reforms the material.
The rod end appears very beefy, even larger than rod ends on military off-road 5 or 7 ton trucks.
I love Kevin, he is a legit driver, no F's given.... lol, he gets a A+ for using his toys the way they are intended to be used... i love it, you guys rock!!!
Wow, talk about a tie-breaker…That was an epic tie rod end failure. Good to see you were able to piece it together and make it to camp
It appears the structural integrity of the steering components may have been compromised by the shortening of the frame. This probably caused an oscillation in the semireticulating radiator bearing cause dissimilar metal corrosion on the rod end. All joking aside I think yer on the money with the ram assist angle being off... Makes total sense. Happy New Year all. Hope it's a happy, healthy, wealthy 2022 for the LBN.
Aww ☺️
Your Jeeps trying to fit in with your new bronco😂
I have watched enough forged and fire and I can say the heat treat was not right lol love the video
Kevin got in trouble LOL. I may have to join you out there one day. Thank you for your time.
I seriously can’t wait for my bronco to come in so I can join on the next take over! Major FOMO after seeing this video take place near my hometown!
Looks like SO. MUCH. FUUUUUN. Can’t wait for y’all to the the east coast (fingers crossed NORTHeast?! 😆😉🤞)
Awesome video!
Happy new year!
Also, good to see the Ram and other long LWB vehicles take the challenge.
i love how calm chris is throughout it
Job security :D
That's why I always set my assist rams to push out near the tie rod end near the knuckle and not in the centre of the tie rod bar just bowing it
🤣🤣🤣 Kevin's face when Brit said what did he snap! right after telling him they agree not to do dumm sh17 😅.
Yo, the same exact thing happened to the TRE on my buddy's new RPM steering. He waited 14 months & TRE snapped on the shakedown. Well that's not a good look for RPM's forged TREs. I wanted to swap out my Steersmarts steering for RPM but they were backordered to the moon! They did have aluminum sleeve replacements for Yeti XD tierod/draglink, reusing Steersmarts TREs so I "settled" for that...glad now that I did.
Way to go Bronco!!!!
From 13:30 to 14:00 the whole steering system was bent forward, the tie rod snapped at 14:00 due to too high bending moment around the vertical axis. The shape of the crack at 15:07 suggests this. Awesome trail, awesome group. Keep going :-)
Going where no one else can or don't want to go is what its all about Kevin especially when the old lady is telling you not to 😉! Love it I do the same thing 😁!!!
Regardless of the power ram mounting that tie rod shouldn't have busted , you where already past the hard part it just let loose/failed... That looked like a fun trip for everyone !!
