Litter boxes are an eye sore. This is my DIY project to fix the problem with where to put a litter box when you live in a small apartment with two small cats.
That is very attractive and clever. There is another way to get rid of the smell. When they stink, SCOOP them. LOL Then light a candle and all smells are gone. My husband is, right now, cutting a hole in the wall into my downstairs laundry room. I have the litter boxes under a counter in there, and I am going to make a curtain across to hide them. Now I can shut my laundry room door, and they can go thru the cute little hole into the laundry room. Trying to come up with a cute way to decorate and trim it. But since you cannot cut up your house, your idea is really really nice. Extra seating, too. Thumbs up!
If you haven't or at least have not thought of marketing this product, then you have no desire to retire early. Don't bother with a patent. Just start a website and through word-of-mouth the orders will come pouring in. I would pay $500 or more for such an innovative way to keep from smelling the poop of my 3 cats. You wouldn't be able to keep up with the orders unless you hired help. This is a small business opportunity staring you in the face. Apply for a small business loan. If for some crazy reason the business fails, the government will absorb the loss and you can go pursue other interests. Go for it, bro.
after hours of videos finally a match! Good job. I have two cats and one tiny spot in the city and this is the answer. working on a similar box of my own and had my doubt you pretty much got it only one comment is to get a sifter pan if you do not want to invest into a manual cleaning machine. other then that you made my morning. thanks!
You are the bomb! I'm showing my husband this! I have 4 cats and a 1200 square foot house. Probably not as small as your apartment but definitely small by house standards. And one of my baths is actually too little for a box so I need an alternate solution. With 4 cats I have 2 jumbo boxes and dip frequently. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, impressive! Looks phenomenal! By far the best custom litter box enclosure I've seen! Any chance you'll start taking custom orders? Lol I need 3 custom enclosures for large self cleaning litter boxes, and I think I might be in over my head attempting to build even one of these. Love the idea, and how you incorporated the boxes into benches, and made an entire kitty corner with wall shelves. Great idea for the vent too!!
This is fantastic. It’s not exactly what I had in mind for my needs, but it’s pretty close. There are plenty of DIY litter box enclosures but shockingly few that are built for TWO cats. I have been planning one that is very similar except that the enclosure would be a long rectangle with the two boxes on either end facing opposite each other. I have been having a hell of a time coming up with a way to seal the bottom without making it too heavy or difficult to clean. I’ve also been struggling to come up with a solution for ventilation. The little vent you installed and the grooved panels were exactly the inspiration I needed to finish my design and start building. Can’t thank you enough!
This is a smart design! I can tell you put a lot of thought into this project. It's also really attractive. This is well-beyond my carpentry capabilities. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing the video.
I would love to buy a litter box like this for my cats. I think is the best idea i seen so far. My cats make so much mess around the litter box so i have to clean like three times a day. Now i'm pregnant and its more difficult to clean up when my partner is not home. We trying to find the best solution to keep our home clean especially for the baby in the future. Well done !
This is a great idea! I also live in an apartment with two cats. It's so hard to find something like this to purchase. Really enjoyed watching how you made it.
This is perfect for me and my two cats. We have an area upstairs along the railings that this bench will fit perfectly. I also have two dogs, so having the entry in the back will keep them out... a continuing issue. Getting ready to map this out on paper so I can build my shopping list.
Amazing, I would totally buy this litter camouflage bench! I have two cats and two litter boxes but I am kind of a clean freak so I remove the poop everyday and clean the litter box every 3 to 4 days with bleach along with the lids so the boxes never smell thank god. But I would totally buy this bench to hide the boxes, it looks so lovely!
I am an DIY Mom. My Dad had 2 girls and I was the oldest so I would help my Dad with his "Projects". This just brilliant and you are making something that is not only useable but very nice to look at. Most people are good at one skill but not at making something stylish. The only thing I would add is either more daylight or a battery run nightlight. I understand that cats can "see" in the dark but I would have added something like that. What a beautiful job you did and I have never seen a corner bench made like this. I don't know but should you have a patent or copyright on your idea to protect it ? Congratulations on a job well done.
Wow!!!! That came out great, blends right in with the decor, looks amazing.... Can I place an order, I want one. Lol. You thought of everything, and all your ideas are brillant. I too live in a small 1 bedroom apartment but with only one cat, I have the liter box in the little hallway type area by the bathroom so you cant see it in the living room/kitchen area....but I cant stand the liter getting everywhere. I wonder if I put the scratch pad right as shes ccoming out she will use it. Ive also been trying to think of some kind of inclosed area. Im on top of the liter box daily and of course I clean it out everytime she goes practically when I can. Luckily Ive ased everyone that comes over can you smell an odor when you walk in my apartment and they have all said no. Thank god. I am absolutely in love with how you created that concealed liter box. Amazing! Also they sell those type of scratch pads at the Dollar Tree. My cat uses them with no problem, sometimes they dont have them but when I see them I stock up....
Hi there, I love this. One thing I've been puzzling about is some way for a motion sensor to kick the fan on as soon as they leave to vent the "fresh scent" outtside, then turn off after about 10 minutes. I'm not sure the waste would stop exuding smell from just the fan operating though. But everything you've done her, like the other person said, you could sell these, if you could find an economy of scale in source, cutting, and assembly of parts.
awesome idea! but if you would switch from clay litter, go to tractor supply and get equine pellets you wouldnt have to worry about smell or tracking litter. i recently changed and i am so much happier. i used to have to get up put sandles on, sweep my hardwood floor fro bedroom lvg room dining kitchen to utility before i could walk barefoot, now i dont have to change pellet litter only every 2 to 3 days and sawdist is still dry, light and absolutely no cat piss amonia smell. i love it!
i love this. i am going to build one. might i suggest painting the inside with B.I.N . its a shellac based primer and will prevent the wood from soaking up odour.
I had trouble with cats peeing on plastic bags on the floor after using like this...I would suggest using aluminum pans, doubled or tripled, about 50 cents apiece in bulk at wholesale clubs...or wall paper trays for easy dumping into garbage bag... HAVE been trying to vent for years....hard project for me to get going on, thanks!! you can also pre fill if you use the aluminum trays, rinse and perhaps recycle for money with your soda cans... I use wood pellets, bought on sale and discounted per pallet.
You should really set up a supply list and/or a diagram of how you did this, hell start making this and maybe other variations and start selling them, excellent job
Hey Chris, very nice and stylish way to hide the litterboxes! Also the extract-fan is a very good idea, but isn't it laborious to grab the hose and stick it out the window every time? have you considered drilling a hole in the wall and use a wallmount air outlet instead? you could just leave the fan on all the time on low speed ;-)
0:45 "Hide in plain sight" “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” -Inigo Montoya The phrase means that you can still actually see whatever is hiding but you can't see it because it blends into it's surroundings. Like when Gizmo was hiding in the stuffed toys. This is not that at all., The boxes are literally hidden from sight.
This is a great idea!!! You know you should try Fresh step crystal litter or Nature's Miracle Crystal litter...the best at odor control you, will smell nothing especially with your hidden litter boxes..trust me give it a try.. the only litter I use for my kitty and she loves it. :-)
Was thinking about doing a box enclosure faux furniture kinda like this just earlier today then this pops into my homepage. They're listening...! *grabs tin foil* 👽👽
Wow. Very impressive! Can you include a summarized list of your DIY dialogue with measurements? And give an estimate of cost? Very much appreciative. Ty
this is cool..i had an idea like this with the vent and fan... but was thinking using motion sensor with a delay...so the cat does its business..then the fan kicks on for 15 mins or so. great thinking on this.
Thank you! 😊 When I don't have it on and in the window, I turn it off and hide the tube behind the bench. It's a flex tube so it can collapse down really short.
clean litter boxes don't smell!!! My apartment isn't that large but nonetheless I have 4 litter boxes with silicate-litter for my three cats. They don't smell at all! And if you choose nice ones they blend in.
this is very unique and clever! I hate the litter box as well but a huge reason why your litter box stinks so bad is because you're using subpar cat litter! I have 5 cats and I've literally tried every brand out there from clay to Cedar to pellets to the crystals I mean I've tried everything and the best that I have found is Fresh Step! it smells really good, you can get it all different kinds, my favorite is the Fresh Step extreme with Febreze. but one thing I have to say is I think you need to add some type of light inside for them. Just a light you can stick on , you don't even have to screw into the board on the ceiling, the kind that takes batteries like a night light. do you know what I'm talking about? Because who wants to take a dump in complete darkness? would you want to? I found that cat's definitely don't like that. but I know that they appreciate having two litter boxes to use for sure. but yes very ingenious, beautiful, well done! just put a little light in there for them LOL
I know this is an older video but would like to mention to anyone coming across this that if you're having odor issues, try using World's Best Cat Litter. I've been using it for years and years. Never any odors. Clay litter sucks.
Thanks, I'm in the same situation with two cats, definatly building something similar, do you have to turn the fan on constantly? Would it smell without the fan or does the box do a good enough job to control the odor?
Ok I think this is a great idea. But about the smell. I don't get it. I had cats my whole life and 15-20 years ago smell was an issue. But now. The sand is so good so if you clean it, lift out the lumps 2 a day or more often if needed. Then you don't need that filter/fan system. I use the brand Everclean and have 3 cats in a 1 bedroom apt. and you cant even tell that I have cats, at least not when it comes to smell, toys is a different matter ;)
You should consider making these to sell! What a terrific idea, I live in a apartment too. I could never do that myself though. Just sayin....
I'd buy it, too.
I live in a small one bedroom apartment too and I would love something like that....He should definitely look into selling them, what an amazing idea.
Im sure i can speak for everyone and say WE ALL WANT THIS
IMr LAPS Thank you!! I'm working on a way to mass produce these as we speak. I'll keep you updated
@@christopherkohler8180 what happened?
@@billybatson9981 My plan was to market this and many other DYI ideas that I was working on. Then life happens. I’ll be back! Haha

I'm really considering it! Thank you for the inspiration 😊
I'd be ur first customer
I'd be your second! :)
I'd buy this for around $112
$500 is too much! A lot of people can't afford such price. Be considerate of others!
Such an awesome idea, and well executed project! Very lucky kitties to have such a great daddy!
You sir...are a genius!

Awesome job indeed. Kiln dried pine pellets also help with odor control. A 40 pound bag at Tractor Supply is less than 6 dollars.

Fantastic!!! Very inventive, wish I had one.
I plan something like this for my cats litter box in my tiny house. . it really works ~!!

You did a lot for your cat's they better love you for it I was thinking of a idea like this minus the fan as I don't have a window in my bathroom
I wish my husband was handyman like you
Great job.
Amazing good thinking 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
wow great job idea you should make them for sale!!!
Wow! You need to patten that! I need this in my camper.
I could be your Texas granny? That looked so professional - how about customizing the inside of a Ford Transit van for me? 😂😂😂
You are amazing!
You're amazing for saying that! Haha
Omgosh so much props!!
Best idea ever. I'll try something similar, since I don't do woodworking. Great nevertheless!

Fantastic idea, what was the cost of the whole project?
Very Nice . I might have a problem with the fan but I'm sure I can find someone to help :)
awesome tips. thanks so much!

I'm with you about the litter. I use Fresh Step with Febrese and it's been the most effective. Even the dust is far less than other ones I've tried.
Brilliant! I love it!
good job
If you use the wooden eco pellets you won’t smell anything. It’s so much better than the cat sand
Can I buy one from you? Lol Great idea!
TOP NOTCH JOB
This looks awesome! Aprox. how much did it all cost?
Thanks!! All the materials including the motor and fabric were around $150. This is in LA though so prices are a bit higher.
