Thank you for your special instruction. You are awesome! I have exactly the same mystery and my key was working on and off and suddenly died. It does not work with a new battery. That metal thing is loose on my key as well. I don't have a solder but at least I know what I need to do. Subaru dealer in Tokyo just quoted me 13,900 yen for a key itself.

I just looked for it on eBay under flip key and then looked for one that I liked and fitted the original key inside!

No you do not need a key. Just learn how to pick a lock and you can have a new car every day. 😎
