On a normal Wednesday night out driving, my car managed to snap the left rear axle during a gear change from 1st to 2nd gear, I managed to roll about 500m before coming to a stop and had to be towed home, which was luckily just around the corner.
I wanted to put a used factory axle back in as the aftermarket new axle had failed but there were none for sale in Australia so I found the cheapest one on eBay in America and got it sent out with shipping and taxes and conversion fees cumming to just under $200aud landed, so I cleaned it up and it came up great and seems to be working just fine!
I started welding my original broken axle and may even try welding the snapped axle back together too, let me know in the comments if you want to see that!

Haha yeah but I couldn’t find one off a manual anywhere! So hopefully it holds up 🤞🏼 I’ll try too, cheers 😃

@Scuba Made a funny thing happened to me.. I was driving on the highway and my car wouldn't drive like go faster when i hit the gas... so i thought i had a bad clutch. Got the 2006 330xi (CONVERTED TO REAR WHEEL DRIVE) towed home & I was going to bring it to the shop and tell them I think I need a new clutch.. but I didn't I used the moment as a learning experience and started ripping the car apart attempting to replace the clutch myself.. I purposely didn't buy any parts...I got all the way to the drive shaft and noticed I had a broken axle in the rear which is why the car wouldn't drive. I happened to have a new spare rear axle from a 2 for $100 ebay sale. Needless to say it was the axle amd not the clutch.. so that could've went wrong in so many ways as you can imagine if i decided to bring it to the shop. They would've charged me for a new clutch.. and the other scenario is I would've took out the whole transmission for no reason not fixing the issue after reinstalling .. I actually decide to take it apart because I wanted to see what was wrong with it.. the other plus side is i got the new axle on and since I have the exhaust off its a good time to fix my transfer case and install my new Supersprint quad exhaust system I have sitting in my basement 🙃

Ohh that’s cool! We didn’t get the xi’s or AWD models here in Australia, so I don’t know much about the front drive line, I have replaced the clutch in mine which was a mission on the gravel but I definitely needed it! There’s not to many parts here on eBay hence I ordered my axle from eBay America, but shipping and tax is very expensive unfortunately.
I hope it’s all running smoothly and sounds good now!

There’s a link to my video where I show that at about 1:34 and I briefly explain how I did it at about 9:39, or if you wait until the end it comes up to watch next I think! Hope that helps, it’s pretty easy with the right tools!

I don’t really know, I’ve never had to buy a new bumper for my bmw. I’ve never even looked into it!
I normally try to get 2nd hand parts where possible, but that’s just me!
I might have heard of duraflex but really don’t know! Sorry.
