  • A global shift in the way the world produces energy has started. According to the International Energy Agency, the world will spend twice as much on clean energy in 2024, including solar, wind and nuclear, as it will on fossil fuels. John Dickerson explains.

My point is that we need to reduce demand and increase the cost of production through many currently unpopular methods, such as protecting federal land from exploration, and other things like carbon taxes to ensure that consumption and production fall together; that is the only way that price reduction won't trigger additional consumption and undo the gains from green energy.

What ecosystems are going to be damaged when you put a solar panel on your roof? Or a car park has solar panels built over the parking spaces? Logic would suggest that solar panels in urban areas is the perfect location for them (all other things being equal) - they're where the demand is so no losses due to transmission distances, no greenfield sites being re-purposed for energy generation. And the social advantage that the generating systems are more widely owned than relying on a power company.

So, install solar with battery storage. Cut your electric bill down to a few bucks a month. I think our biggest electric bill since installing solar has been under $20. We're a 3 person household with an electric vehicle and live in a year-round 80 degree or higher state which means we run A/C about 350 days a year. Yes, the cost is a lot up front, but there are tax incentives and local programs that can help lower the cost, but there are also low interest rate solar loans too. Run the numbers, get a few quotes, ask to visit properties that used each company to install including clients from pre-2020 and post-2020 just to make sure they aren't using stupid excuses to lower their quality. Oh, make sure they are licensed, insured, and bonded, as well as in good standing in your county so they can pull permits themselves instead of getting you involved, make sure they have at least one licensed/bonded/insured electrician employed that can come out and inspect the progress of your installation at any time you request it.

Im not here to argue with anyone but I'm very skeptical we will ever really go green. Many countries are in places where the sun doesn't shine enough for a large part of the year. Some of the best countries are North America and Australia. We also can generate electricity but we have real problems STORING electricity. the battery tech just is not good enough yet. Not to mention obtaining cobalt is going to be a real issue in the near future. The more I read about it the more I realize how complicated it really is. :/.

Climate change and rising sea levels will make properties in low lying areas and coastal areas impossible to insure. Banks will be reluctant to give a mortgage for 15 or 30 years because the property may be under water. Selling properties to average buyers will become impossible in the future as banks and mortgage companies stop making loans for these properties. Coastal areas are a high risk for insurance and extreme weather like hurricanes. People will have to self insure and take the risk of loss. Condo associations are losing their insurance and if they find a new higher cost policy they will be passing on the higher costs to association members. Flooded cars from hurricanes fill the salvage lots. Insurance companies will raise rates and pass on the costs and risks to policy holders next year. Coastal properties will be confined to wealthy individuals that can buy properties with cash and self insure for losses from hurricanes or rising sea levels.
