Good ear to hear the similarities between KZ and Jessie J. There's a video from The Singer showing KZ and Jessie J meeting for the first time. After KZ finished fangirling and could start breathing again, she said that Jessie J had been one of her big influences and was a large part of who she is as a singer. As the only two English speaking contestants, they quickly became friends. In the final episode of that season, Jessie J had KZ and a Chinese singer Coco Lee (a previous The Singer winner) help her sing Bang Bang and it went really well.
You should definitely react to more of KZ's performance from the Singer. Say something, hurts you never knew, and anak are all brilliant for vocals and emotion plus rolling in the deep for more of her cover genius. Jessie J's performances on the Singer were all of good ballad songs and strong vocals, so you should definitely check them out as well. Jessie is actually one of KZ's musical inspirations so that's why you hear some of her style influence. Both a great artists and underrated in their fields. Glad you got to hear her sing!
KZ's an amazing artist. So much challenges during her career but never gave up and just got better. Her version of every hit songs were mesmerizing. All performances were captivating. Hat's off to this genius artist.👏

@@maggiereneemusic I do not know if anyone answered your question about the sign and the show. This is the same show a different year. Dimash was in 2017. This is the 2018 edition won by Jessie J.. I happen to prefer short people winning something. As I topped out at 5'4"ish. The things I loved to do, I was too small to do past elementary school. I started High School at 4'9" tall. Being it was the 60's and since I couldn't be high in height, I became an expert at being hi in the 60's nomenclature. Anything that qualified me on size I either had absolutely no talent for, or I hated it. I wanted to be a singer or a Tour Golf Professional. I wasn't big enough to play that level of golf and I have no talent for music except I can listen to it real well but nobody is going to pay me to do that either. So I always root for the little guy if they have a chance. I got my ramble on today so I'll beg off while I'm behind.
I find it helpful to listen to some of KZ’s crazier songs (Royals may be her craziest!) a 2nd (& a 3rd) time, because she changes the song So So much. To me, that’s a testament to her talent…who else can add jazz/rock/rap/reggae to a song AND be so captivating on stage!
This song isn’t for everyone but she still SLAYED it.

Loved your reaction! As a fan of KZ I understand all your opinions. Yeah she did sacrifice clarity and diction on some parts of the song so she could push forward more angst and rhythmicality. Clearly it was a stylistic choice for her in this particular song.

KZ's elimination was a hometown decision, not because of her rendition. When you see the performances of the other contestants, then you will get a clearer picture. Yesterday, she signed her 3rd international album, wasnt that a cosmic vindication? Be that as it may, KZ was the most viewed per performance in that contest surpassing even JJ.

Please check out the other songs from the competition, especially "Say Something" and "Rolling in the Deep". To be honest, I was most impressed when she sang a mash up of three emotional songs in Chinese "The Hurts You Never Knew". The fact that she doesn't speak Mandarin (and neither do I) yet she left me a little choked up is a testament to her ability to use music to evoke emotion (similar to "Say Something"). More recently she put out an excellent song "Imposible" which is catchy as anything, though it's in Tagalog. She also just recently came out with a single "11:59".

Surely someone mentioned it, but KZ's best lyrical in this competition was her stripped down version of "Say Something" with just a guitar accompanying.

KZ is an amazingly talented artist and performer. A tiny powerhouse. But, this is far from my favorite performance. Any other performance from her on Singer 2018 would be better. She also has some originals and collaborations that are great. And, she almost never looks the same from one performance to another. She's an original in herself. Even her covers are actually originals.

yeah i totally get where you are coming from. A lot of times in our choral vocal lessons, our vocal trainer always want us to elongate or maximize the vowel sounds on each phrases and not to get to the consonant abruptly. But i think what kz is doing here is a total stylistic choice. if you watch her other performances, she can definitely lean on to those vowel sounds. but here she sort of chooses to get to the consonants to make it sound different,

Satine (the green logo) is a dairy company in China. They are one of the main sponsors of the T.V. show. Their milk product is very much featured throughout the episodes. Jessie J is one of KZ's singing idols and you can definitely hear Jessie's influence in just about every song she sings. As such, it was a very big deal for KZ to meet Jessie J in person when she did this show. The episode where they meet in person is priceless because KZ is literally speechless when Jessie J comes up to her to introduce herself. KZ was very much a fan girl having a big time fan girl moment.

I always find it funny when people who reacted requested a song many many times turn around whenever the actors says that they didn’t like it so much And say “well this one is better!” Or “that one is better!” Or “this isn’t so great but…” Like it’s still good, just on that regardless of what the reactor sad. This is one of the best performances I have ever seen and nobody is gonna make me change my mind.
