    This is my first fighting game and I'm so absolutely overwhelmed by everything. Watching videos is useless because it's all a foreign language. I found your channel and really like your approach, but would really appreciate a series on going from complete beginner to having at least a fundamental understand of the game.

      Allow me to give you the most basic of run-downs:
      Each character in the game has access to 6 different main buttons, the basic bindings on an Xbox are:
      Light Attack ( L, also referred to as 'jabs' ) - X
      Medium Attack ( M ) - Y
      Heavy Attack - ( H ) - B
      Special Attack ( S ) - A
      Assist 1 ( A1 ) - Left Bumper ( LB )
      Assist 2 ( A2 ) - Left Trigger ( LT )
      Light, Medium and Heavy can all also be altered by holding down on the analog stick to crouch. Commonly, crouch attacks are called 2L, 2M or 2H, referring to the orientation on your the numpad on the keyboard, where the analog stick sits still at 5. 5M, for example, would be standing Medium attack, no analog stick inputs.
      236S would be the Kamehameha action of Quarter Circle Forward Special Attack. Jumping attacks are noted as j.L, j.S, j.H, etc.
      All these notations assume you stand on the left, facing the right.
      Getting used to the number notation will help out alot when interacting with the community, as it's a universal standard across ArcSys games.
      Next, blocking. To block while standing, or high-block, you hold away from your opponent on the analog stick. To crouch-block, or low-block, you hold down and away.
      The overheads he was referring to are attacks that are stopped by high-block, but will hit opponents in low-block. Like-wise, crouching attacks like 2M will be stopped by low-block, but will hit a high-blocking opponent. In the video, his opponent continuously low-blocked, meaning he could spam overheads and win the match that way. Every character has a universal overhead attack, simply input 6M (Forward Medium Attack), and you'll perform an overhead. All attacks in the air are also overheads.

    I come primarily from Smash which has different guard mechanics. There are no overheads and lows, the block just guards everywhere.
    It's kind of an adjustment to play more traditional fighters where you have to alter your defense. I'm not as proficient with traditional fighters but the important thing I picked up is to learn your opponent's "flow." That's important in Smash too and most competitive games but it really plays a part when blocking in traditional fighters.

    • @DotoDoya
      @DotoDoya  Před 6 lety +1

      Couldn't agree more, Learning the way people like to play a character greatly helps you build your reflexes. A lot of people think you either can or cant react to things fast enough, I strongly believe that you can train it though with enough experience!

    how are you able to do that overhead so quickly?

    • @DotoDoya
      @DotoDoya  Před 6 lety +4

      Forward medium or 6 m is a universal overhead for everybody in the cast. The other overhead shown in this video was just an instant air dash heavy attack or IAD H. That can be done by moving up-forward, neutral, forward very quickly!

    This game's EXTREMELY frustrating for me. Coming from guilty gear and blazblue where there are a bunch of built in defensive mechanics, this game's super lacking. If you have no bar, then you better find a gap to reflect or...I dunno. Block until they hit you since blockstrings are basically endless in this game.
    Mostly venting. Frustrated. A lot of fundamentals feel like they need not apply.

      Absolutely great to hear! you break down higher level matches quiet nicely so it'd be great to hear what other options could have been done in a situation that I didn't think of on the spot. As well as tips for breaking defense or keep-away styles. I myself want to get into the higher level so the more I know is the faster I can reach, as I will be dedicating my time to polishing up my team. Which consist of SSB Vegeta as an opener, Beerus and Android 21.

      Thanks! Two of my favorite things to do is watch match footage of this game and help people improve so it should be a natural fit for the channel! Once the game is out I'll probably start optimizing my team out, see who works where and all that, then I'll hit the lab for each character.

  • @weirdflex271
    @weirdflex271 Před 6 lety +3

    Right now I’m having the issue of recovering after blocks or air dashes aimed at me. Right after the opponent does a homing dash and I block, he is recovering faster than me enabling him to go immediately into a jab or combo. Besides timing a special block or down Heavy attack I cannot seem to hit my opponent quick enough.
    Please advise on this.

    • @DotoDoya
      @DotoDoya  Před 6 lety +2

      There hasn't been much discovered on punishing blocked super dashes. I would advise you either do what you listed that works sometimes or back dashing after they hit you and going for a mixup!

    • @DynamicBubble
      @DynamicBubble Před 6 lety +1

      If you land the down heavy you can start your own combo with a homing dash so try to practice getting the time down with the down heavy it a really hard punish on the homing dash. As homing dash is safe on block so down heavy is the best option its just hard to get the timing down.

    • @weirdflex271
      @weirdflex271 Před 6 lety +1

      DanklyEgg thank you. I’m referring to after the block on super dash, the opponent is able to recover faster and jab into a combo making it harder to punish after the block.

    • @Lazerfan100
      @Lazerfan100 Před 6 lety +1

      When you block the super dash the opponent gets pushed away from you by a little bit, in that moment I usually throw a heavy (not down heavy) and it works all the time, but the timing I think has to be precise. The thing though is that if the opponent is on sparking mode they dont get pushed, instead they get closer to you so their super dash is safe. I think the only thing to do in that case is to block their string and punish if you see an opening.

  • @kreymamba5237

    Is there like a universal combo with a overhead and down attack? For instance something like square, triangle, square?

  • @ziongamer6905
    @ziongamer6905 Před 6 lety +3

    Defending is my worst thing in game rn, I can combo fine but once I defend I'll block until I'm with by that rush attack.

    • @DotoDoya
      @DotoDoya  Před 6 lety

      In a lot of ways a good defense is harder to build than a good offense. Offense is controlled by you at all times, but defending against someone is something that you have no control over. You have to be ready for anything they can throw at you so its definitely normal to be a little worse on defense. It's something everybody struggles with, especially in a game like this!

    • @edoishere
      @edoishere Před 6 lety

      DotoDoya my main thing is getting tossed up in the air, attacks hitting me from all sides, support attacks hitting me and an intimate ongoing onslaught of supers that've constantly screwed me over when playing hard mode. I just wanna unlock Blue Goku/Vegeta, but being constantly barraged by attacks so fast that I can't even tell what is happened except my health being drained to bits. Seriously discouraging...

    • @edoishere
      @edoishere Před 6 lety

      Like I'm raging right now. I'm 24... A no games gotten me this pissed since I was like 11. No matter what I do I can't escape these ridiculous combos that keep launching me in the air and then beating the shit outta me then I block and they vanish behind me shoot me up again and pummel the shit outta me with these ridiculous combos/super attacks that COVER THE ENTIRE FUCKING SCREEN SO I CAN'T EVEN SEE MY CHARACTER TO KNOW WHAT I'M DOING OUR THE AI TO SEE WHAT TO BLOCK/PREPARE TO DEFEND AGAINST. It's so frustrating. I never played fighting games too much, just Street Fighter V, The the DBZ games, Virtua Fighter on the Sega Saturn, and some DOA 5 and I don't remember them having this huge problem. The game is fun, it's really good, but I've aced all the tutorials yet I still can't do shit against the AI in the hard Arcade Modes. I really need help.

    • @DotoDoya
      @DotoDoya  Před 6 lety

      The hard mode in arcade is very hard, They have supers that do more damage than normal. Its just a matter of blocking what they have and punishing! Thats the only tip I have, other than that you can just save up zeni for the blues!

    • @edoishere
      @edoishere Před 6 lety

      You can unlock the characters just with zeni? I though the capsules only get ya different color skins?
      Thanks for the tip, I mean I block all I can but it just doesn't help enough against the downright murder they're laying on me.
      I read on a forum that apparently if your in a combo and the "xx Hits" UI is blue instead of red holding one of the attack buttons down will let ya escape, but I haven't seen any blue combo counters to test it out. Still, that seems like it would be something they would've put in the tutorial. It's really frustrating and seriously making me regret buying this game.

  • @MegaProRacer
    @MegaProRacer Před 6 lety

    Man the only kind of defense I see online is people backing up, waiting for you to engage, and then either dash, launch or super.
    The keys is to trick the opponent by moving forward and blocking at the right time, and also mixing it up by moving fast in and doing a overhead or low medium.

  • @DustyVita

    It makes me sound a little like a jerk, but it's oddly satisfying watching someone get blasted with like 7 overheads in a row. I will say, even though tournament play will be a ton of fun to see and making combos will be fun to do, I'm actually really interested in seeing more of the characters I grew up with in the story mode.

      I would be lying if I said I didn't feel the same, but I also really enjoy watching people learn on the fly. There was a match where I did this exact same thing , but after a while it wouldnt work on the player anymore. They were able to punish it everytime. Never been prouder of a random player in my life!

    Hello. I was wonder if there's a way to avoid a combo from Android 16. I'm terrible with fighting game terms but basically he combos you, grabs you and smashes you into the ground then can do a 1 meter super attack (where he takes off his hands and blasts you. Do you know any ways to get out of this? Thanks

    • @DotoDoya
      @DotoDoya  Před 6 lety

      If he hits you with it then you have to take the combo,if he messes up you can tech out by hitting buttons while you are getting hit!
