  • Join along for a largemouth bass smashfest with Seth Feider as he experiences the Tokyo Rig for the first time. His confidence and knowledge flow (along with his stash and hair) as he gets on a solid shallow water flipping bite then takes the battle to offshore bass relating to bluegill and deep grass.

    Feider discusses attributes of the Tokyo Rig that make it stand out from conventional Texas-rigged plastics and jigs, a plus when dealing with educated fish. Most notably, its unique rigid dropper wire coupled with a tungsten weight keeps the bait and hook slightly suspended off the bottom and independent from the weight. This translates into a more bait action and higher hooking percentages (hook and weight aren't tethered). But unlike a drop shot, the Tokyo Rig is rigid so it excels when fished around cover like grass and wood.
    The right rod setup and line pairing blend sensitivity and power with lightness to prevent fatigue. Feider details his combo and why he favors a lighter power rod paired with a braided mainline and fluorocarbon leader over heavier, more traditional flipping and pitching setups.

    So this is the 3rd or 4th video I've seen from SF and I have to say that he's one of the better fishing teachers on CZcams.
    He just has an awesome ability to articulate how and why to do things as well as other things to try.
    He would not have been someone I would've guessed to be a great teacher but as a fairly new angler, I've learned a ton from watching this guy, keep up the great work Seth Feider!!!!

      I watched a friend of mine, a bait maker- catch a 3.5 pound bass on a block of wood with hooks hanging off it- not even shaped like a fish or anything and had no action whatsoever, literally just a squared block of wood with some hooks hanging off it. Another guy right here on CZcams takes his kids bathtub toys and hangs hooks off them- catches a bunch of nice small mouth with them- according to your logic this means blocks of wood and bathtub toys are great lures. Think about that... maybe catching fish in one video doesn't mean so much after all huh?

    For up close pitching like this I think this rig works pretty well but- for casting out and retrieving I don't like it at all. Drop shot is the same, I want to be pretty close to where I'm fishing it and be up above it- like in a boat or something making shorter casts. Trying to fish it from the bank is rarely successful for me.

  • @gageparra2917
    @gageparra2917 Před 4 lety +2

    I wonder if with the big weight on there will the fish have an easier time throwing the rig when they come up and head shake ?

    • @treyferguson9393
      @treyferguson9393 Před 4 lety

      You can get different size weights and hooks for em. Longer wires. Shorter wires. I don't think it would be any different from a jig as far as fish throwing the hook

    • @stoneysdead689
      @stoneysdead689 Před 2 lety

      Absolutely they have a much easier time the larger the weight you use- gives them more weight to violently sling back and forth until it tears a hole and comes out. Also- the further away from their face the weight is, the more apt they are to sling the bait- it gives the weight more leverage to shake that hook back and forth, tear a hole in the tissue, and out it comes. But- if you use a mod/fast rod, or a fast that has a more parabolic bend- really helps to pin that bait to the fish- then when the fish shakes it's head back and forth- instead of the whole rig moving violently back and forth- you're rod is holding it steady by keeping pressure on it. Now the weight and the wire are still gonna sling around- they're on a split ring- but they'll do so less violently and hopefully you holding pressure on that hook keeps it from responding to all that violent shaking.

  • @smoovefishing

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi smoovefishing, the point of the wire is its rigidity and the fact that it doesn't wrap around cover as braid would.
