Since the dawn of the FGC, we’ve had people play in masks, shirtless, tophats, fursuits and so much more. If your opponent’s appearance has any baring in your ability to play you’re just not locked in enough to play at a competitive level.

Online play is the best and worst thing to happen to the FGC. As great as it is to be able to play online with your friends, it absolutely stunted a lot of the community members. A lot of my development growing up was going to the arcade and playing with people in person. Believe it or not I got in fights over matches back then when I was younger lol. But that helped me to learn to keep my cool and how to interact with others.
Playing online and exclusively interacting with others online skips the need for social development and skills that you gain through interacting with others.
I hate to say “people are softer nowadays” i think thats super cringe and plain wrong, but I do think that there are lots of people who cant handle small shots like this.
4:14 Remember it? I actually won a tournament match with this strategy during arcade CvS2 after noticing he was looking at my movements after match 2 of 3. But since most arcade buttons had some sort of function, I did it another way: I acted as if I was hitting a button, but would hit the arcade platform instead. It was close enough to my controls where my opponent THOUGHT I was hitting a button so I can get a forced reaction and a possible whiff. Sometimes I would mix it up where I would make a fast reaction to a button and touch it, but with not enough pressure to activate the command. End result landed me in the Grand Finals where I got 2nd.
As a tournament organizer between 2000-2010, not only would I allow it, but it's difficult or impossible to regulate this even if I did impose a ban. Especially if you're dealing with multiple cabinets (at the time) or something as big as Combo Breaker, Evo, etc.
Shout out to trizzy! Love it when the pros have fun. Give these matches more stakes keep it interesting. Don’t get me wrong, I love a well played match as much as the next guy, but the personality behind the player makes it so much more fun to watch!

Combobreaker was a stacked field of competitors actually even in the group stages which were majority American players, any number of them could have made it. So who's underestimating who?

My guess is, and this isn't to excuse it, but genuinely cultural differences. They take it deadly serious over there, Arslan is a hero, they're waving the flag every chance they get. It's almost as though to disrespect Arslan is to disrespect Pakistan. Couple that with the thing about being bare-chested being ok because it's manly and I think that says a lot about his values. It's this bravado situation where he could not possibly handle the banter. Meanwhile Arslan obviously didn't care because he understands the differences in customs.

Naw, was watching live and this was hype. We need a little more of the wrestling atmosphere especially to keep personalities in check and humble. The stakes were raised and arslen looked worried but composed himself and trizzy was entertaining and kept him on the ropes for a second there. Thats part of what the fgc is all about and to lose this atmosphere would be to strip part of the scene's soul away.

I’ve been watching tekken for a long time now and I’m sorry y’all wanna get in to discussions and discord lobbies like dark prince look up what happened to cuddlecore a couple years ago she was at EVO or COMBOBREAKER and the guy she was in the set with teabagged on her the whole time and she whooped his ass. Period she was a black woman being almost used by the EU players as a joke and she tore her way through them and she still plays to this day.
No hate on trizzy for this at all. When you’re fighting the best the mind games can be key.
This is just another lovely example of what this society is on a mission/crusade to do as of lately…cancel culture. I’m so sick of this crap. There is no reason to ban someone for being a jokester and playing around either before, during, or even after a match. I’m a veteran tournament player and have run into this time & time again & in fact I have made friends with some of my competitors because of things like this (I have also seen WAY more intense & dramatic filled shit than this over the years too..) There is something we teach in America called “Good Sportsmanship” that means, be kind to your fellow teammates or competitors while still having a good time. Nothing offensive was done here.
