    To explain the Destined Death thing, the Great Rune of Death was basically locked onto the Black Blade of Death (the guy that stab his hand and pulled a sword out). When you kill him, you unbind the rune so canonically, things can now die again as per natural human cycle. This is actually the system via which the tarnished (your player) functioned. The Rune of death was chained up so no one could die. When you unbind it by killing the Black Blade, you unlock the ability to kill the gods which is on the way to the goal to reform the Elden Ring using all the Great Runes

    I 100% recommend Elden Ring to anyone and everyone, it's as difficult as you make it, if a boss is too hard, you can just use spirit summons, but if you want to punish yourself and do it without them, then you can do that too, and the story is god tier if you actually pay attention to it

      Woah woah woah slow down there- I am as much as a fan of elden ring as the next person but i DO NOT consider the story as told THAT good, it's Great Lore, but it's just not told very well, just segments happening every now and then with certain bosses or cutscenes. It's the same problem I've had with previous titles, with sekiro and bloodborne being pretty good contenders story wise.

    • @canadiangopnik7007
      @canadiangopnik7007 Před 11 měsíci

      @@edgarallenpo8330 that's the form of storytelling that Fromsoft uses, it gives you a pretty barebones backstory and hints at more, and then you have to find the rest yourself, for a great example of why this is so good, go watch Oneshot plays' ER playthrough, they read basically every item description, they use a wide variety of weapons and incantations, and best of all, they take shots when they die, they found out that Gurranq was Maliketh like 60 episodes before they actually fought him, and moments like that where they uncover a huge piece of lore and start theorizing and getting really exited together are so much better than asmon walking in, reacting to the cool attack, jump attack spamming a boss to death, and proceeding, having learned nothing.
      If you want a good story, go find it, that's what I love about Fromsoft's storytelling

    As someone who's beaten Dark souls 1, 3, and elden ring I think the best answer to "How do you do it" is repetition and learning to accept your weaknesses. Some people are great with a dex build where you you fight up close and look flashy, others are good with mage builds where you fight from a distance. It's mostly about just learning what works best for you and sticking to it no matter how annoying a boss can be. Also every boss has a pattern, your not gonna face something new every time so eventually you'll get it even if it takes a while.

      It’s also why all of from softwares souls games have such a massive speed run community. As every boss/enemy has a clear set of attacks that once you’ve figured them out it becomes much easier to know when you have dodge and what attacks you can punish.

    @RelativelyBest Před 11 měsíci +9

    To answer your questions:
    There are moments of respite and rest, the challenge just goes up while you are progressing and the later parts we see here are sorta intense due to being fairly linear. Early on you can just explore the map and don't even need to fight stuff if you don't want to, although the legacy dungeons you need to clear to reach the bosses play like earlier Dark Souls titles. Also, you can teleport to the Roundtable Hold hub whenever you want and chill out.
    You refill your healing potions by resurrecting every single enemy you've managed to kill. Yes, really. But, seriously, it's not as bad as it sounds. Basically you're supposed to use up your inventory resources while pushing through an area until you reach another resting spot and you can fast travel to any Site of Grace you've activated.
    You progress mostly by dying over and over while throwing yourself at the enemies and trying to learn how they work. However, it helps if you spend time leveling up your stats and weapons. Most opponents are actually fairly easy to deal with if you've learned their movies and weaknesses and your character is appropriately leveled. Finally, it really helps to have played the Dark Souls games before, since a lot of strategies and habits carry over.
    On that note, playing carefully and strategically also helps a lot. I strongly recommend carrying a bow as your secondary weapon: Most regular enemies are relatively easy to snipe from a distance and can be kited away from groups so you don't get dogpiled. Shields are also a good idea, especially with Elden Ring's Guard Counter feature, though for some reason a lot of Soulslike players dislike shields. But, yeah, if you're _not_ a masochist I recommend a basic "Link" build: Bow, shield and whatever main weapon you fancy.
    Anyway, Max0r actually makes it look harder than it is, likely to make it more entertaining. Notably he doesn't seem to use summons at all, and those are incredibly useful in boss fights. The editing also makes the fights seem more hectic and unforgiving than they are. (Though not by very much.)
    Oh, and yes: MaxOr is using mods to create those weird flopping around effects, I'm pretty sure. FromSoft games tend to be very stable and basically free of bugs and glitches in my experience. Also, no, Maliketh doesn't perma-kill your character, that was just a joke.

    100% the game is about dying, and figuring out how you died, and how to prevent it, by timing those dodges juuuuuust right. If you are the type to rage at dying, you will NOT have a good time. Or you will get over it real quick. One or the other.

      Yeah Malenia was the first time I ever felt a genuine challenge in Soulsborne games besides, Isshin, The Sword Saint in Sekiro, and Nameless King in DS3. I haven't beat Sekiro still mainly cause I stopped playing cause stuff came up in life and when I came back it was literally a year later and I was too shit to even keep up with first phase. DS3 I still haven't beaten Nameless King solo in my hundreds of hours in DS3, I've come close but I always die, I'm just bad at fighting him specifically for some reason. And Malenia took 6 days to beat with my friend on our first playthrough, 3 days for him, and then when it was my turn it was another 3 days of agony. I've come close solo but I'm just not good at fighting her either and don't find her very fun cause of the self heal.

    To answer you question from about 17 minutes in, yes, there is plenty of time intbetween enemies to heal yourself if you have flasks left and mentally prepare youself for the next encounter. That spot where he's at when you paused is a bit notorious for being... let's just say an "annoying walk". The birds are some of the most annoying enemies in the game by virtue of them being birds (They fly, don't stay still, and can flinch you a lot). And having a dragon call lightning down around you, on a pathway with puddles (Water will cause the lightning to spread), while you walk through a bunch of murder birds makes for very fun time. On the plus side, the birds are fragile, and the dragon is at less than half health by the time you get to him. You only saving GRACE (That's a pun), is that there is a Site of Grace (Your checkpoint/bonfire/camp in Elden Ring) about a few feet from where he's standing. The walk is short, but sometimes painful depending on you build.
    Point is, Max0r edits out the majority of the downtime. Elden Ring is vast and there is a ton of time to mess around and relax between encounters.
    Also, he's heavily modding during some of these scenes. During the section with Placidusax (My favorite boss in the game) and the Maliketh fight, he uses a mod that removes the model's bones. Also, he's doing fortnite dances and summon bosses into other bosses' arenas constantly.

    @smokinggnu6584 Před 11 měsíci +3

    There are plenty of Sites of Grace scattered all over, you refill your healing and mana potion flasks when you rest there, but all the enemies respawn.
    Edit: 30:36
    That's a joke, you don't get sent back to the start. The game would be utterly impossible like that.

    I could not begin to count how many times I’ve died throughout my Souls journeys. I once spent 3 days fighting the Orphan of Kos, the final DLC boss of Bloodborne. I have absolutely no idea how many times I died, but it was all made worth it in the end. Can you imagine the rush? Trying and failing for days only to just finally get it.
    And that’s not even mentioning the life long struggle against the most evil boss in any From Soft game, Gravity. And platforming, but that’s because From Soft level designers are sadists and gravity is omnipresent.

    there is a healing potion, called the Flask of Crimson Tears, and you actually get it at the very beginning of the game. you get a limited number of uses, but they refill when you sit at a Site of Grace. however, in order to drink the potion, you have to wait for the animation to play, so you can't just spam them constantly - you have to time your healing very carefully. in fact, timing is a very important component of survival in this game - timing your attacks, timing your dodges, timing your spells, et cetera.

    17:18 You don't, dying is part of the fun. There are these Checkpoints called "Graces", they are often placed before bosses so you can retry and retry again without any big penalty, it's like a really hard puzzle you just connect the pieces until you're done.
    Elden Ring is hard, but not the hard that actively tries to make you rage. Playing through Soulsgames is intense for the first time, but for each subsequent time it's just an entertaining and maybe even relaxing sandbox of trying out new things, while also being able to set yourself new challenges to overcome.
    The first playthrough of a soulslike has to be patient, afterwards it might all come to you. It's like riding a really big roller coaster for the first time, you will be scared and scream during the ride, but afterwards you'll love the adrenaline.

    Dying there doesn't actually send you back to square one, but you'd think that scenario could enforce it. Fromsoft like their fair but punishing gameplay. You should have the main mechanics of the game down by the 2nd video on Elden Ring that Max0r did. There's enough big and smaller encounters to be that sort of familiar, by by this point of the game, you should have very endgame levels of damage you can deal with your weapons. Also worth mentioning is that there's tools Max0r isn't even using in a lot of fights like the spirit summons or Physick Flask buffs. Otherwise everything is as badass as he makes it look.
    The extreme animation/boneless mods are just something silly you can use if you turn off the anticheat on the game. People also do randomizers to shake up acquisitions and enemy encounters in a fresh playthrough. Once you beat a fight, you usually get it down for other playthroughs for questlines and endings. Most weapons, spells, and items are their own strengths and weaknesses to take a more fresh experience at things for gameplay and builds, and most have lore significance.
