He wanted you to be winners but your mentality was too weak
100% still can't believe he got sacked southgate Been here for 7 years
You couldn't say it much better! Thank you
â@@andrewwright4195tbf fabio made bad squad selection choices for that world Cup and played key players out of position.
@anandpatel726 none turned up apart from gerrard 2010 not really manger falut
@@anandpatel726He played them players because there the ones who didnât piss and moan and worked hard. He only selected players who grafted in training. He didnât pick favourites like every other England manager. Unfortunately the ones he picked were not good enough
This comment from Dean says a lot because imagine if Pep trained or managed England before he dominated EPL with Man C & his tiki taka. The ego of the players at that time would say "he's trying to make us play like Spaniards".
Exactly this. Like, why even hire a manager. Players just want a babysitter
From what you have said it doesn't sound like he 'wanted you to be Italian', but rather he just wanted you all to be slim, fit and healthy and not fat lazy toads that get kicked out of every single international tournament..
At the same time though, Capello needed to be a bit more flexible with how an English camp is naturally inclined to be. That's where Southgate has been clever, he's done some of the same things but not made the squad feel stifled or joyless.
@@azapro911 clever? what did he achieve though?
@@saintgermain1716 England's first semi-final in 22 years and first final in 55. On balance, I'll take it over tepid last 16 exits having crawled through a group.
LolâŚlazy old English lads always picking out untenable excuses from any situation . He should have fed you with ham, cheese & chocolateđđđ
@@azapro911 Yeah but to be fair both the last Euros and this world cup were for the taking and England blew it.
Capello wanted to build England from the grounds up. Seems like he was spot on considering how unfit they weređ
exactly... from what this guy's saying... seems like Capello was doing the right thing and the players didn'tđ
The comment I made on this video originally agrees with your point. Mr Capello came into England at the wrong point of the squadâs cycle.
So by controlling your diet he wanted you to be Italian, are you kidding me? I honestly though he was gonna say a diet of pasta and lasagne, Ashton get off your high horse mate. Capello was a serial winner for a reason.
You cant question a coach Who has been that great as cappelo
So Capello wanted the squad to be in shape and eat healthy.......he sounds like a mad man! đ
These crazy modern methods đ
Probably because back then Italy had a culture of winning
Italy won Euro 2020 and embarrassed England. Enough said.
I'm no fan of Capello's England, but in some fairness he was trying to do what he thought he'd been brought in for: instill discipline and a more continental approach. No way was that ever going to work on the club and ego obsessed 'Golden Generation'.
As much as I love Ashton (West Ham hero for me) that reeks of priviledged footballers not wanting to graft to win. Arsene wenger did exact same thing as capello with Arsenal and they reaped the rewards, by the sounds of it the england players just sounded typically lazy and arrogant "we're English we dont do that" well those small margins its no wonder we achieved nothing and continue to achieve nothing. Just because david james was 39 is no excuse as to why he couldnt make the effort
They told Capello to Pizza - off !! đ¤Ł
England have had more than half a century of losing at major tournaments to the first elite team they come up against every tournament, it's not a manager thing, it's an England thing. That's quite an impressive run of failure considering the unbelievable squads they've had in that time. 2006 they had an absolute dream team of a squad.
@@ingefossen8499 not overrated but they get average managers who fear the media and worship average player as a talisman , build the team around that guy and then top hungry players dont get a look-in...first it was beckham , then Rooney and now kane...the 2006 squad could have and should have beaten Portugal...playing an unfit rooney and then beckham played through out..out of form , out of nous when the game had evolved.. Scholes was the genius in the england set up , he was shafted on the left in euro.2004 to accommodate a midfield of Beckham Gerrard Lampard...he quit...
Problem is, other nations - Brazil, France, Spain - had their own dream teams that overall were better.
@@sugoshiyer1540 I think the main protruding problem with england for me is the fact that they use players from too many top 6 clubs, how are they supposed to have chemistry when every position in the attacking areas is filled by a player from a different club?
that stands out so much to me and i have been writing the same on a lot of the videos.
@@azapro911 Spain never did nothing at World Cups until 2010 & they've not done a lot since then. France sometimes do great & sometimes awful.
@@DreamLurker32 probably yes ..valid point..Maddison was picked becoz of public pressure , he did not play a minute..Ben white left the squad for an alleged burst up with the assistant, quite rightly so, he was bursting his gut for Arsenal who are top of the league while maguire was warming the bench...it seems either top 6 or favourites in case of Gareth..
It really annoys me when the ex england players throw Capello under the bus like he wasnt an elite manager before he took the England job. He wasnt the reason we failed the players ego was the reason we failed they couldn't look past the rivalry. In terms of him wanting to make England italian why is that such a bad idea italy have won 4 world cups and at the time they were world champions. Seems like the common thing for these ex England players to blame the manager instead of themselves because they cant handle that the England team get on now whereas they couldnt
He was certainly past his best and on the way down when he came to us though.
@@richardjones8699 oh yeah for sure but I just find it funny that the england players didn't listen to him like they were more expert than he was even though England hadnt won a world cup on 44 years at the time. It annoys me that they throw him under the bus to try an escape blame
From the outside looking in.
It seems as though English people (in general) cannot look past the rivalry. From fan to pundits. Only the current players show genuine love for the English team and each other.
Arsenal fans criticize Kane and Rashford
City fans criticize Mount
Chelsea fans criticize Trent
United fans criticize Saka etc..
Hardly ever see that with fans of other COuntries when it comes to the National Team
He wanted you to be Italian so that you could win major tournaments! For example Euro 2020 remember đ¤ˇđťââď¸ but no us stuck up English knew best and now football has gone to Rome đ . Fabio Capello beat England in the long run on this! đ
Itâs called been professional dean
This is as English as you get lol. How many World Cups and Euros have Italy won. How many have England won. I wonder which country's approach is better?
The disrespect towards Capello is breathtaking. One of the top 10 greatest managers of all time.
top 10? lol
Top 10? Give over.
@@adamboow8299 7 serie A titles with 3 different clubs... I'd also recommend you watch the 94 CL Final
@@YeTism 7 serie A titles with 3 different clubs... I'd also recommend you watch the 94 CL Final
@@YeTism Absolutely top 10. Won everything everywhere, including Champions League, Serie A, La Liga, etc... No one cares about England.
He wanted them to run hard in training, get in better shape and eat the right food, I donât see the issue here. Well I do see the issue, the players.
So what's wrong with a manager needing his squad to be stronger , fitter , and healthier ?
Sounds like he wanted bring in a winning mentality, just was too many ego's to go along with it.
Thomas Tuchel is a knockout specialist: 2 UCL finals in a row, 5 finals reached at Chelsea in 1.5 seasons. We need a serial winner thatâll make us hard to beat with tactics and heâs done well in England, flexible in game management, his teams always press well etc. BRING IN TUCHEL
He is a good option if England can get him they should do so. He is familiar with England players since most of them play in PL. Bellingham is from his old club Dortmund. England need a manager that knows what these players can do. Managers who have managed in PL are very familiar with England squad.
Tuchel would be a great manager and would deffo improve England. But if reaching and winning finals is the criteria then an even greater knock out specialist would be Unai Emery. He's smashed tournament football.
These are very stupid reasons. Now I see that the shortcomings were not on the coach, but the players.
Quite derogatory to state "he wanted us to be Italian" without content. He ran the team hard and changed diets like every other world class coach does.... egotistical reaction to a voice of discipline
That does not sound like being "italian" that sounds like being "tough" and "sharp". đ
Coach with multiple trophies had standards .. shocking
"That is very much an Italian way, working hard, running a lot"....
Honestly we're so deep in our own bullshit in England we will never get out of it. Taking attributes that belong in winning mentalities and branding them as foreign and not the English mindset. That's all you need to know about why we don't win.
Considering Italianâs have been winning at this football thing for decades, becoming more Italian doesnât sound like a bad idea.
Let's compare Dean Ashton and Fabio Capello's medals
England will always blame everyone but themselves
EVERYTIME. We've had these conversations EVERYTIME. Managers change, teams change, but the results NEVER change.
I think if Fabio had come in after World Cup 1998 he would have been able to implement these changes a lot easier and delivered a lot more more England.
No he wouldn't
He would have as his long time friend, Wenger had literally done so with great success at Arsenal
And guess what... he has the highest win rate of any England manager in history!
Wrong...that would be Sam Allardyce with 100%
@@marlboro1771 Don't be silly.
Dean seems not to understand the problem. It is not that English teams have not been fit enough it is because they are not used to suffering enough for the greater cause. This suffering is what gives teams the edge that somehow takes them over the line. Can you just imagine how much more difficult it would have been to get our troops out of the trench to face the German machine guns if they had been overly comfortable where they were in their front-line trench? The army deliberately makes the troops suffer for no apparent reason precisely for this kind of reason. Mankind is far more motivated by the avoidance of suffering than by the pleasure of winning, or any other form of pleasure.
I remember reading Capelo saying I wish they didnât drink beer. Compared to what a team of loosers.
But this is a big issue at international level you can't implement much as you don't have time or ultimate control like club managers do. For instance in club football especially premier league pressing is everything, no team left in the world cup this year really press. Argentina don't, Morocco don't and France don't Even England don't really press...what works at club level doesn't work at international level.
2 best club managers at the world cup both went out early in Hansi Flick and Luis Enrique. People need to understand its just not the same.
Simon = Top LAD Proper Clobber đŻ Facts
Simon and LFC Spectre = Top LADS Proper Clobber
Wanted us to be ItalianâŚâŚ.yeah win 4 World Cups and 2 Euro Championships! Dean is such a little englander he doesnât realise how self incriminating his words are. Now we know why England hasnât won since â66.
I love Dean Ashton was a massive fan of him was sad he retired very early
So he wanted you all to run more and be fitter and put healthier food in your body?, what a monster
Yeah, sounds as though the players just wanted to be with England on a jolly, eating take out food, a few lagers, nights out, playing video games. And the players of that generation are still wondering why they didnât lift the World Cup. No wonder Ashton never had much of an international career with that sort of attitude.
I think the expectations are slowly becoming more realistic. The truth is we never have the best team. A lot of our players look better than they actually are because they are playing alongside world class players from overseas every week.
Complaining that a manager wanted his players eating healthy, running more, getting leaner and picking up intensity?
All the ingredients that made wenger, pep and klopp top tier managers. How much of a brat can you be? No wonder the want Southgate to stay on, they'd rather keep losing doing lower things, than start a fresh with "new" ideas to hopefully win something.
Yeah now we know why England doesn't win thingsđ¤Łđ¤Ł
I am English and I don't think these comments paint the English players in a good light. What an entitled bunch.
These all sound like good things!
Wow I can't believe these players and their comments
Diet and exercise are vital just look at Novak Djokovic and Ronaldo.
They sound spoilt
What he wanted ye to be winners.
They did so well in the qualifying, blowing teams away really .. that's what i don't understand.
England have always had players from any era that could do well in a world cup. You even go back to Graham Taylor and I can't believe there wasn't a 11 or a squad there, under the right tactics that couldn't take England to least a quarter final.
Like George Graham was doing at Arsenal, who took Arsenal to an incredible 2-years cup winners' cup run.
George Graham proved under the right tactics and mentality England could've qualified for the USA.
If Morocco, Iceland, Wales could do it, then why couldn't Taylor's England? We've always made excuses.
Unfortunately English coaches have failed. And we got a couple of foreign coaches and they also failed.
What England need is a manager who has international experience...
There's got to be some managers out there that are not in a job. Unfortunately that has to come from a foreign coach because there's no English manager with great international experience.
it sounds like everything that he wanted to do was for the betterment of the whole team and you English just didnât listen and were crybabies about it. no wonder that golden generation didnât win anything.
So true I am England I was angry they sacked him
Feel sorry for capello, at club level he could have implemented the changes but not at international
Pity he never managed in the Premier league.
Can just imagine John Terry going to Fabio, u wot mate???
Capello wanted you guys to be professional, what a shame
I can't even imagine how hard that must have been....
Wonder if dean holds a grudge against Sean wright Philips who ruined what was going to be a very good career Dean was a top draw striker that wouldâve scored loads such a sad ending
I love Dean Ashton, but sorry was Capello meant to allow the players to eat what they liked ? If he'd done that then people wouldn't have liked it
If the English manager can't win, let the foreigner do it his way....what's the point of getting a foreigner in the first place then.
The arrogance and ego of the so called golden generation. No wonder they flopped.
England have not lost a game since Argies 98
The manager has done it for them
I would prefer to play the dutch way instead of boring English football
You guys are discussing England way too much!
Cliques NOT clicks.
Itâs pronounced âcleeksâ but spelt cliques, not clicks.
Its spelt who gives a flying monkeys, its sqwawk sport..... youre too intelligent here mate.....you got England fans wanting Salah and Haaland over Kane.... and Klopp for England LOL

Fair doâs. You made me laugh there đ
Would you rather try and actually win another World Cup in this lifetime or just sing songs and get beaten by the first decent country that knows a thing or two, can actually run rings around you and finish teams off? Just asking, as I think Jude Bellingham seems to be the only English player with any fire in his gut to actually do this.
Capello was the reason for Brexit smh
Rrrr bless more excuses why we fail at competitions đđ, itâs embarrassing
How dare he want them to be fitter
Why is England losing to an injury hit France seen as an achievement but England losing to that Great Brazil team with all timers is bad lol
âBut we were Englishâ yeah, crap
None of you was good enough thatâs the problem
No Dean. He just wanted you to run
I liked Rooney under CapelloâŚcall me crazy
If capello had the run ins that Southgate had in the last 2 tournaments then we would have won at least 1 of those. If you think differently then you're clueless
Also remember, if Lampard goal stood against Germany things could have been different.
@@kaneessey3839 I know. Would have changed the game massively. Momentum would have been on our side. England getting screwed is nothing new though
@@kaneessey3839 the germans would probably win anyways
Now we now why England have not won anything since 1966 or whatever.
Too big for their boots
Capello is got it wrong by trying to force english players to be something else, try to impose a different culture and try to do all those things too fast,it never was going to work
And you wanted to be British and look where it got you lot
Muh foreign managers are good
It's funny how Nationalism is such a dirty word unless it's football, it must be a real thorn in the side of Globalists or Progressives, this game that makes so much money flying in the face of the one-size-fits-all world they seek to build, but whether you like it or not that sense of homeland and belonging resonates far harder than their propaganda, take those who don't like 'Colonials' in England shirts, lazy journalism has always painted those who feel that way as racist, as if it exposes some deep hatred of black people etc. but it isn't, it's the knowing of compromise, knowing you haven't got an indiginous player giving his all for his country but a player whose home is England but underneath their heart is (rightly) somewhere else, whether you like it or not 'heritage' is as relevant now as it's always been and it only takes a Capello to rub men against the grain to display it
He wanted successful culture vs always arrogant always underachieving England
Wow
