Cliffhanger is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the costliest aerial stunt ever performed. Stuntman Simon Crane was paid $1 million to perform the aerial transfer scene, where he crossed between two planes at an altitude of 15,000 feet (4,600 m).
Is that true ?
Well he was payed hansomly for it .
Don't know if I could have done that even for 10 million bucks , wow !
@@gregorygant4242 he actually didnt make the actual crossing he was just supposed to make it to the door and then be pulled away as it would be too risky to actually detach, he barely made it and was slammed against the side of the plane, but he still got his $1million, that was set specifically because they couldnt get insurance for the stunt and he wanted to know his family would be provided for if he died!
Wow
Stallone jokingly called the movie RAMBO ON ICE.
However, it's been called DIE HARD ON A MOUNTAIN.
Appropriate, since as of this movie he appears to be making a habit out of jumping off cliffs onto trees. 🙂
Shoutout to supporting actors Micheal Rooker and Leon who both put in a hell of a performance here.
I remember having a blast watching this in a crowded theater with my dad, Back in the summer of 1993. We had so much fun, we were there for Demolition Man later that year. John Lithgow as the villain is terrific. For me, he was just as bad ass and vicious as Hans Gruber from Die Hard. Out of all the Die Hard inspired action movies, this one's my favorite. Still holds up beautifully. Renny Harlin knocked this one out of the park.
Ricochet is another FANTASTIC villain role for him too! :)
@Michael Riddick Agreed. He was great villain in Ricochet. I still remember seeing it on HBO for the first time. Good movie.
@@michaelriddick7116 Blow Out is another good one, where he plays a villain.
take a number and get in line , such a awesome villan
It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop.
As Douglas Adams said, "The secret to flying is to fall and miss the ground."
It's the fall that kills.
In the words of an ex cop teacher I had "guy swerved and died before he even hit the wall" 😂 he slipped up on the wording and my friend & I were laughing saying "died? Before the impact?" 😂
Deceleration trauma
It's not the fall that kills you, it's too many falls. Same applies to summers, springs and winters.
Fall and sudden stop are equaly responsible as you cant get killed by neither of them separetely
Ah Cliffhanger. A big childhood memory of mine. Glad you guys watched and enjoyed this.
Next some more realistic , 2015 Everest , what really happens when things go just a bit wrong .
you can only go up to Everest in May , outside that few weeks window worst wethers are - 70°F and wind speeds up to 175 mph , that tops cat 5 hurricanes .
Luckily this movie was filmed in way lower altitudes and warmer weather area , Dolomites , Italy and rockies , Colorado .
@@pete_lind Geez, I never knew that. Good thing I dont plan on climbing Everest anyway.
Mrs Movies is officially my favorite!!!! I died laughing when she said the whole thing from “Cool Runnings”! 😂😂😂😂
Still one of the best opening 10 minutes to a film ever. Saw it in the cinema on release. Still remember all the gasps as the lady's straps broke.
I especially liked the part where Gabe looked right at the bad guy during the big climax and said, "You shouldn't have messed with me, I am Cliffhanger."
Considering Renny Harlin also directed Die Hard 2, "Die Hard on a mountain" is fairly accurate description.
John Lithgow really doesn't age. From 3rd Rock to Cliffhanger to Dexter to Pet Sematary, he really does not look like he's getting any older.
You should see Younger Lithgow.
@@3Kings_Industries "Harry and the Hendersons" from 1987 might be one of the last films where he had brown hair.
Quite true.
The opening scene in this movie at the theater on the big screen was incredibly intense. John Lithgow looks like he’s having a ball, he chews so much scenery he has a eating disorder.😂
Seeing that on the *BIG* screen, back when they actually had big screens, was awe-inspiring.
25:11 I love Mrs. Movies' calm, satified "Nice" for the stalactite kill.
Such a tense and suspenseful first scene… And the helicopter pilot smiles thru the whole thing….
CLIFFHANGER!! Finally a reactor watches it: I don't know why it is not more reacted to since it is such a Stallone classic and one of the great Lithgow performance!
Another one of Stallone's movies, which goes under the radar but is one of his best, is daylight. He was ashamed to make it, but I think it's top-notch.
I love all of his "bad movies". Cop Land... And yes, Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot. Loved it, I don't care.
@@st0n3p0ny "Cop Land" is easily one of the finest movies of Stallone's career. Calling it "bad" or even mentioning it in the same breath as "Stop!" should get you arrested.
@@ConstantineFurman I'm going to pull my mac10 out of the dishwasher and come find you because you disrespected Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot...
Bet you didn't like Tango And Cash either.
One of the greatest openings scenes in an action movie. One of Stallone's best movies. Please keep Cop Land in mind for future viewings.
I love this movie! Sylvester Stallone actually did not use a stunt double for the film, and in the behind the scenes video, you can see and hear him talking about hanging 12 to 13 hundred feet in the air. He really did hang suspended pretty high up during the scene with Sarah, and fun fact, he hates heights!
There are often shacks on popular climbing routes where climbers can shelter during very long climbs or in inclement weather. It used to be common for climber to leave canned food with with long shelf lives in the cupboards at the shacks to eat on their return trip or for other climbers to use. My sister used climb a lot when she was young and liked to leave canned corned beef hash - she loved corned beef hash because it had the protein, carbs and fat that she craved after a long, cold climb, and, because many other people thought it was too salty or that it looked too much like dog food, it was usually still there for her to and her team to eat when they returned.
I watched this on repeat as a kid. Still one of Stallone's best.
Ace Venture 2, it was a raccoon that died. I remember because of that hilarious close-up on the eyes. Lol.
Why do you have to bring up these traumatic moments? Right when I was about to achieve omnipresent super galactic oneness...
"Pardon me but, your balls are showing... Bumblebee Tuna!"
😂
Shishkabob...Shawshank Redemption...Chicago!
You're outta there!
"SEASONS OVER ASSHOLE!!" is one of my favourite lines before a kill. Loved your reactions to this. Cliffhanger is one of my fave Sly films. John Lithgow was fantastic as well.
"Die hard at a mountain" well this was by renny harlin a finnish director, he also did die hard 2 if i remember correctly, theres that. so as finnish person and a sly fan, this a quite special. Also theres that little easter egg for finns, that one guys parachute got the finnish flag on it, the blue cross on a white backround.
31:53
This little production mistake always gets me 😂😂😂!! When he says Over there his walkie talkie is nowhere near his mouth. Clearly his voice can do magic tricks, or that's a powerful walkie talkie.
Still one of the most gut wrenching opening scenes ever!
It definitely is trippy to think about how movies from my childhood are now getting to be 30 years old. 30 years back from 1993 would be the year of films like To Kill a Mockingbird, Cleopatra, and Lawrence of Arabia.
The best bad guy was gravity. Truly a terrifying foe.
This movie received mixed to positive reviews by Critics and was nominated for 3 Oscars:
Best Visual Effects
Best Sound Editing
Best Sound Mixing, but lost all to JURASSIC PARK.
On a $70 million dollar budget, it made $260 million dollars($446 million dollars today) at the box office.
Everyone talks about the opening of 'Dark Knight Rises' but this movie deserves to be in the conversation. Maybe it's because there's something a little off about the way it looks during the mid air heist but that was done for real. An actual human slid across from the big plane to the little plane. He missed the door though because there was an updraft and he hit the windshield of the smaller plane and went right over the top of it at which point he disconnected and parachuted down to the ground. I think it's till the most money anyone has been paid to do a stunt because it was so dangerous. You never hear anyone talking about it though.
Another strongly recommended movie for you guys to react to - Olympus Has Fallen, basically Die Hard in the White House. Unlike Cliffhanger, this one has an intelligent villain. Hopefully you guys will watch it on the channel.
I saw this movie as a kid when it first came out and I have no memory of the overall plot BUT I sure as hell remember the opening scene. Secured my fate of never climbing a freaking mountain.
The actress that played Kristel - Jet Pilot also played Moira Banning on the movie Hook
Finally a film I know again lol
Frank's death still painful to watch he somehow created a deep character by only a few lines and expressions
You’re thinking of the late great Alexander Godunov that was in the original Die Hard as a long blonde haired baddie. The guy that’s killed in the avalanche was played by Denis Forest. Speaking of Die Hard, it’s first sequel Die Hard 2 was directed by Renny Harlin before he did Cliffhanger.
The ironic thing is, they both died fairly young... Denis Forest died from a random stroke aged 41 and Alexander Gundinov died from hepatitis, brought on by alcoholism at the age of 45 ; very sad.
Banderas in Assassins is also an awesome bad guy.
thia movie was one of the last Big Budget Hollywood action movies to really use traditional matte paintings. I love this movie
This movie was film in the Italian Alps not in the US. or Canada or Alaska. Just in case you are wondering where was it film.
"Cobra" is my favorite Stallone.
Greetings from Finland!!! This was directed by Renny Harlin and he's from Finland 2!!! Brings me good childhood memories!!! "I'll be back" 😎
My favorite Stallone movie, aside from the Rocky movies and the two Creed movies, was Daylight.
Good movie, I always enjoyed this movie with my many re watch’s… and cool fact my cousin actually was one of the lead riggers on the movie.. he is a big time mountain climber guy!
Now you have to react to "Over the Top" (1987). That's a fun Stallone film.
Best father son movie
No one says "Walker, you resilient bastard" like John Lithgow.
1993 was a great year for movies. I spent so much time in theaters and arcades back then.
Tucker: “Seasons over asshole!”
Best line in the movie.
Period!
@18:14 “Geez, Derice.” 🤣 She recognized him from Cool Runnings.
Good one!
I think this should be followed by Ace Ventura 2.
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls!
That opening scene still as intense today as it was then....😮 "daylight" is pretty good too
Could you please watch Best Of The Best starring Eric Roberts, Phillip Rhee and James Earl Jones.
It’s one of those earlier martial arts flicks that came out of the 80s/90s definitely worth a watch. 😁
Love this film 💜
Great movie
Excellent movie. One of my favorites too. The scenery of the movie is absolutely beautiful on a 70 inch 4k and 200 inch 4k movie projector. Now I just got to watch it on an OLED 4K.
I get Hal needs someone to blame but his plan was to send his harness out. To what end? She couldn't even reach up to grab Gabe. No way she's had the wherewithal to grab the other harness.
I remember coming home one day from work and my wife was sitting on the couch watching Clifhanger. I was so proud and happy of her movie choice. I told my buddy about it and said I had a tear of joy from what I came home too. He then told me he came home and said is wife was watching real housewives and said he had tears but for another reason. Haha true story.
This is one of my favorite movies & yes John Lithgow plays a great villain in a lot of movies
Did anyone notice that the henchman Ryan who sly snowboards off a cliff is Gregory Scott Cummins who plays Mac's dad on IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA if anybody wants to watch a great unknown movie try TWIN TOWN it's a welsh movie that's a cult classic it's the movie that catapulted rhys ifans and dougray Scott careers
21:46 LMMFAO!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was first film on our first commercial TV channel after the iron curtain fell. In 1996 it was first real action flick i could see in TV.
This was my 2nd stallone movie I've seen, thanks for doing this movie reaction.
Thanks for watching this. Great time reliving great memories watching this from my youth. So much fun seeing the Mrs. reactions to this. Always had a crush on Janine Turner after this movie. Favorite scene was the crack scene... that's what she said!
"Keep your arms and legs in the vehicle at all times!" One of the best lines in this movie.
John Lithgow plays such a great villain! You should watch Ricochet with Lithgow and Denzel Washington next.
In 2017, Sylvester Stallone and Michael Rooker reunited onscreen in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2.
I have always loved John Lithgow, but I love him the most as a villain. Another good villain role of his is Ricochet with Denzel Washington.
Severely underated movie, Lithgow is amazing in that.
John Lithgow's great at everything.
@26:13 Gabe’s moment of redemption.
I was like "so that's what ace ventura was referencing" when I first watched the opening.
Favorite Renny Harlin and Stallone flick!!!
Trevor Jones doing his best Alan Silvestri. Nice.
@15:02 - Also, in Above The Rim.
As a kid I use to watch a show called Between the Lions and in that show they had a character called Cliffhanger. His whole thing was that he was hanging from a cliff from his hands needing to be rescued. I wonder if that character was suppose to be based off of Stallone's character in this movie because he even sounds a bit like Stallone.
In the movie Ace Ventura When Nature Calls, it wasnt the monkey that dies but it was the raccoon.
I always now think of this when I go on big wheel. Being terrified of heights myself. I worked out she fell 24 times the height of the big wheel I was on . Also she fell just over 3 times the height of Empire state building . She was dead before even hitting ground
Everytime i watch this ,i always hope Sylvester Stallone saves the girl at the beginning O_O
It was a racoon that dies at the beginning of Ace Ventura
If you go freejumping from a mountain, a Finnish flag parachute is mandatory!
The director, Renny Harlin, is Finnish.
@@ConstantineFurman Yes, I know, so am I.
Cliffhanger is a classic!
Eiger Sanction - Clint Eastwood really climing mountains using special cameras for the time.
Stallone is simply the king of action movies. Schwarzenegger is king of the sci fi action movies.
You guys should definitely watch the river wild too. I think they came out around the same time. So good
Renny Harlin, as a Finn, always puts some references to Finland, small details, to his films. The parachute of the other young man had the flag of Finland. In Long Kiss Goodnight, Samuel L Jackson drinks Finlandia Vodka.
I have three suggestions:
1. Von Ryan's Express (1965)
2. U-571 (2000)
3. all quiet on the western front (2022)
Finally someone does this movie!! One of the greats. Great reaction. Thank you. 😊
It wasn't Spike that falls in Ace Ventura. It was a raccoon.
seeing this on the big screen int he cinema was fing wild, the tension was ramped right up
I'm still angry that John Lithgow never got more props for this movie that he truly deserved. I would have loved to see more of him as a villain.
One of the most intense opening scenes ever!
Predators also has a great opening scene with falling.
1:10 jump-in by the light of day during #movie Daylight.-Ernie Moore Jr.
I think Léon was in Madonna's video Like a Prayer.
I don't even free-climb out of my bed in the morning 😭
Classic film
COPLAND has to be next. Glad you guys getting to some good movies from 90's
I loved this movie so much as a kid till this day I have the score on my Apple playlist 😂
6:12 spike was fine, it was a racoon that fell
When i see the beginning of this film it reminds me of Ace Ventura 2
15:10 is it me or is this the actor that played in Total recall the man with five kids to feed
So many TV actors John Lithgow, Police from CSI: Miami, Jack Daltons actor from the stable of my childhood the Original Magyver, Main female love interest from Northern exposure😊 (They all have real names but I didn't want stop the video for a long while order to go to Imdb, just so many "that guy" actors😁)
@jyriavist9126, Uh, I think Lithgow merits a bit more than being classified as a TV actor.
@@mitchellmelkin4078 I think so too he has been Bryan De Palma movies etc. When I was a Kid first of I got to know him from 3rd rock from the sun😊 (I didnt ment to diminish him what so ever)
Do ‘Demolition Man’ next.
For cannialism on a mountain, you might check out 1979's "Survive!" though, because it was regarded as cheap and exploitive,1993's "Alive" (based on the the same real life incudent) might be better even though it majorly plays down the cannibalism aspect.
lmfao... wow. the mrs. was jonny on the spot with "skin on skin"! lucky man cowboy.
I remember seeing this in the cinema back in the day. Still holds up today.
awesome. im still in love with Janine Turner.
