    Random rambling coz I wanna share: I think I'm starting to gradually become more sensory-seeking with food, especially spicy food! At the beginning of this year I only had a few spicy foods I actually ate regularly/somewhat regularly, but I'm getting better at stepping out of my comfort zone with food and trying different foods I've never eaten before.

    Rant for the algorithm I guess:
    While I don't have an autism diagnosis, I am diagnosed with adhd and used to be on vyvanse for it (unmediated currently). And for the past couple years I've been watching a lot of autism content and reflecting on how I act and how I was as a kid and I've lowkey accepted that I'm also autistic, but it's hard to actually think that, even within my own thoughts, let alone anyone else. I was constantly told as a kid that I was just looking for attention anytime I asked for help with my mental health simply for the fact that I was aware I even needed help and it's given me major imposter syndrome. Something that's kinda helped me accept this about me though is also recognizing the autistic traits in my father and his childhood. And although I've helped him realize that he has adhd through my own diagnosis and the realization I had about both of our autistic traits, I know I can never actually verbalize these thoughts with him as he was the main person who accused me of being an attention seeker as a child when asking for help. But anyways, I've always been fine with the fact that I would never actually seek a formal diagnosis, because there seems to be no real point in it. I already know I'm ND and I just am the way I am, getting another piece of paper confirming another (very stigmatized) label on me wouldn't change anything. Though it would feel nice to confirm my experiences and finally know for certain that I have a place in a community with people who also struggle like I do, so I don't feel so alone in the way I am.

    I went in for autism testing today and I'm super worried, because I'm pretty certain I'm autistic because I relate to literally everything on the spectrum to a pretty high degree and have got super high scores on every autism test I take and whatever, but when it came down to the actual test the psychologist lady just asked me to tell her what was happening in some really weird book about floating frogs and had me answer some super basic questions and finished it off with having me make a short story with 5 random items from a toy box. What worries me is that the simplicity of the test isn't gonna be enough to diagnose me properly, yk? Like, yeah I guess I get irritated alot but don't you wanna know how the lights in my room send me into a meltdown because my lamp got bumped and now the shadows are at a different angle???? Idk if anyone else's experience was like mine but if anyone has any thoughts please lmk because I'm just really worried that so much is being overlooked
    SO UPDATE TIME:
    I'VE BEEN DIAGNOSED AND I'M SO EXCITED, MY MOM WAS COMPLETELY CONFUSED ON WHY I THINK IT'S A GOOD THING BUT WHATEVER SHE'LL GET OVER IT I'M JUST SO EXCITED AND HAPPY

    • @Lost_Ch1ldren
      @Lost_Ch1ldren Před rokem +41

      Oh don’t worry, I went through literally the exact same testing you described and I got diagnosed as autistic. It seems simple, but they’re constantly looking at very subtle signs and other things wile your distracted doing the little tests. Not to say the tests were just to distract you, cause they weren’t, autistic people think in a very different way from allistics, so when you make up the little stories they can tell that you think in a different way. Hoped this helped!
      Edit: if your tester was a old white male then the results could end up being a little “untrustworthy”

    • @floralstorms
      @floralstorms Před rokem +19

      Huh same, I went in for autism testing last Tuesday earlier this week and I had to do the floating frog book thing and the short story with toys thing too. It was pretty strange. But yeah same I worry about the accuracy of the test. I wish they’d also ask about experiences because if they’re just asking for stories and some not well discerned emotions… Well yeah like you said, will the simplicity lead to an incorrect diagnosis? I honestly wouldn’t really believe it if I got diagnosed as not autistic but the incorrect diagnosis would be frustrating for multiple reasons

      He, don't feel bad about self diagnosing. Some people dislike it, but they really only dislike it because they are afraid people are doing maliciously, like to take advantage of disabled services or something. If you think you see yourself in these videos, don't instantly shut the idea down. Maybe look at the dsm 5, which is the current manual used to diagnose autistic people, or look up the RAADS test which is less restricted in criteria. I self diagnosed and only found out months later from a psychologist that I was correct. Most of all, if knowing you are autistic or have autism related symptoms helps you in your life, by explaining things like sensory or social issues, then I don't feel that there is much harm. Hope this helps!

I'm only now knowing this because I've been researching more about autism and I'm thinking that I might be autistic because most of the traits apply to me. My younger twin cousins are autistic too so that might lead to a higher chance of me being autistic too? I'm not sure. As entertaining and relatable as the clip at 11:25 is, I'm not sure its entirely accurate about how "a grain of salt" should/shouldn't be used. I looked into the origin of the phrase and it apparently first occurred in the writings of Pliny the elder in ancient Rome, as a translation of a poison antidote that was to be taken "with the addition of a grain of salt" to be effective.
    From what I've looked at it seems we're not entirely clear on how this lead to the modern meaning of the phrase (which is essentially to encourage people to look at something with some reservation as it could be untrue or misleading.) Some people posited that the unpleasant taste is made better by a grain of salt, which kinda lines up with easing 'unpleasant' information. But I can't verify the legitimacy of that so hey, take it with a grain of salt!
    Anyway, I couldn't find anywhere that suggested the weight or amount of salt is important to the phrase, either in origin or modern usage. So taking a massive grain doesn't really hinder the meaning from what i can tell, unless I'm missing something, as I may well be since this was just a few mins of google surfing :)
    edit: I just realized how _incredibly_ autistic this comment is oh my lord 😂😂

I get very frustrated at being told I've made mistakes (Probably because anything less than twisted views of perfection had dire consequences as a child) but I TAKE IT ON BOARS AND STOP DOING IT to the best of my ability and respond with a version of "Oh, thanks, I didn't know".
