  • Welcome to the first episode of "Focus on Film" with Turner Hunt. While I am now currently living in North Carolina and have sold my Nikon D800 and the rest of my digital equipment, I am starting a series of vlogs, reviews, and episodes on film.
    I show a raw look at what I bring to shoot landscapes on film from all my filters to the cameras I use. I also travel to Lake Lure, NC to shoot landscapes with my Hasselblad 501c and Polaroid 330 Land Camera.
    I hope you enjoy!

    I have bought some Bay 60 to 77mm adapter rings so I can use my regular circular filters as well as Lee system.

    We still have fp100c at Unique Photo in Philly and NJ if you're still looking for it. We're the only ones in the country who still have it!

    Sorry, but I reckon all your landscapes are under-exposed except for the running water one. Good SKY but very dark foregrounds- you will need to put some 'Farmer's Reducer' onto the prints to bring out some highlights -- just my 2 pennyworth.

    Great video. Seeing all that professional film gear makes me wonder if I should have got a Hasselblad instead of my old leica. I've gone from a Nikon D3100 to a Sony A6000 then to film and started to realise that all my favourite photographs were more luck and being with family. So I take my little leica which I got a good lens for and it's still early days but i'm hoping it's 50mm is sharp enough to get 35mm scans good enough for good prints. I love not needing any batteries. I took it up some mountains with a herd of reindeer last weekend and I am so excited to get the scans + prints back. Film is amazing.

      Film is amazing. As for myself (Felix) I enjoy shooting both film and digital. For me, it's like the joy of eating at Las Vegas hotel buffet, so many choices. I love having choices. I take a different camera with me each day of the week. Today I'm bringing my Leica M6 because I have some exposures left on a roll I need to finish. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more!

    just a quick definition to everyone, in "Hasselblad land" filters and ALL lens front accessories are a bayonet type, called a bay and the 60 refers to a 60 mm diameter size, just as if it were our regular old and trusted screw thread, as on the lenses the outside is in the bay style as well (for the lens hoods & to mount the ext. tubes / bellows)- be the bay 80's and over. hope this clears away some confusion as this is the only maker, I believe at my current understanding who uses this system, other bayonets are the Cannon F, Nikon Fe, Leica M, and Sony, BUT these are on the camera side of the lens!!

    Turner, we have a few things in common. The great State of NC, the beautiful Appalachian Mountains, and we both left digital. I don't live in the Appalachians any longer, but still close by in the Triad.
    From your video, it appears that you came from the South into Lake Lure. It is a wonderful area to shoot. Don't know if you know, but there are some hidden gems in that area for shooting. Mostly dirt roads leading around the lake and up the hills around it.
    Thanks for the vid!

    Nice explainer of your process--thanks for posting! I'm looking for a big stopper for my Hasselblad 500C/M and Planar 80mm. What is the dimension of the filter holder side on the Bay 60 (I realize the "60" in Bay 60 refers to the OD of the lens barrel)? Are the 10 stop bigstoppers 100mm?

      I can't speak for Turner but mine (Felix) is Ilford HP5. I like Trix 400 for street photography.

    Pics are great, but why not compensate for the grad filter? You then don't have to measure an average exposure, but just measure for the highs; measure for the dark and put in the right nd filter to get sky and foreground right. Just see that you didn't use an nd filter on your first pic, so that makes my comment a bit superfluous. I really love that picture, though. Makes me want to take out my Hasselblad this weekend.

    • @HeyDontShoot
      @HeyDontShoot  Před 8 lety

      Well like I said I am no pro haha, I do know from experience that you have to compensate for the filter at least a stop but as you can see from the image, I know how to get what I want. When using a Grad I do exactly what you said and measure the sky but I have been on a bend for darkening the blue in the sky and making it close to black with a red filter. I am glad you enjoyed the video and the images!
