    I loved this review! I think you really hit the nail on the head! I particularly like your suggestion of just immersing oneself in the beauty of the game and enjoy gently gathering and crafting as an escape from RL - I resonate really strongly with your suggestions and response. Was wondering if you're in the Pax Dei Discord and was wondering if I could read more of your commentary there. I posted a link to this in the media share in the Pax Dei Discord for others to see.

    I played the Alpha. its still needs so much work. Resources growing thru bases, crafting times are way too long, after crafting so many items to level your skills up, there is no NPC to sell/trade your extra items to, combat definitely needs work, and while the world being big is nice.. it definitely feels really empty and you really need a better way to get around other than running everywhere/teleport to nearest waystone... need a horse or something.

    • @CasualGamerYT
      @CasualGamerYT  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Yeah, all of your criticisms are fair and balanced.
      I think a couple of points that we kept in mind while playing it:
      1) It's an alpha and they were stress testing systems, so I guess that's their main priority with this
      2) Some kind of fast movement system would be useful but it would need to not be over the top... It's a big map and it should feel that way.
      3) The NPC thing is an interesting design choice
      The problem with no NPCs is that the vast majority of players in a video game want to be a "hero" and not a "peasant". It's a tough sell to convince the lady who worked in the pathology lab all day to come home and sit down for 2-3 hours and be a shopkeeper or harvest flax in Pax Dei.
      But there is an appeal to every player in the game being a real person doing "real" things in the game.
      I suppose the middle ground would be that eventually, once you establish a farm, a forge, or a shop that you could potentially hire NPCs to provide some level of "bot labor", but that's a big departure from the core design principle of the game.
      It's kind of the Fallout 76 dilemma and to be fair to Bethesda, they've gone back and figured that out.
      Thanks for the comment!

      @@CasualGamerYT yeah fair point. gotta keep in mind that it's the alpha.. but they definitely got their work cut out for them.. just wish they would have at least reduced timers for the alpha considering it only lasts 7 days, and we arent all full time streamers who can play 18 hours a day.

    I think there should be survival elements such as eating drinking and temperature, hopefully for pvp zone you can do things to capture that zone otherwise no real reason to go there. If its pvp you want to at least siege a castle or take a town, you should also be able to attack player built bases. Away from starting zones. Which means need a reason to build away from safe areas. Its looking promising but needs to get all the elements right, i really hope this is a company that listens to it player base unlike some other not so Fun-company's.

    • @CasualGamerYT
      @CasualGamerYT  Před 2 měsíci

      The PvP elements are really still in their infancy, I think. The game is quite vast in its scope, so hopefully the devs listen, pay attention to player data, and add some interesting elements like you suggested.

    Okay I just have one question how exactly do they plan on making it an MMO like from what I see I have a hard time understanding how it's going to be a true MMO like guild wars 2 or RuneScape like a lot of people in the world doing stuff I'm kinda looking forward to it because I hear it's going to be the closest thing to star wars galaxy possible which if you don't know what that MMO was or never got to play it like myself swg was a fully player driven economy and everyone did something for the game to run like you had a doctor that was a player that healed other players in town etc

      its a scam they are going to sell it as early access before it even has any content or even combat. obvious scam. anyone shilling this is a huge red flag and should not be taken seriously.

    • @CasualGamerYT
      @CasualGamerYT  Před 2 měsíci

      Our impressions from the beta are that the game will fully rely on the economy being player-led with only basic systems set up to facilitate that. While I haven't played Star Wars Galaxies, it sounds pretty similar to what Pax Dei is aiming towards. We felt some strong similarities to New World through the heavy reliance on large clans and big groups of players though.

      It’s a vast game world for sure.
      I think there are a few things to consider…
      1) It’s an alpha and the number of players on the map is likely limited to ensure reasonable performance
      2) it’s still “early game” so there wouldn’t be a lot of stuff built out
      3) the game’s design is focused on it being a “social sandbox” so if/when you join a clan then it likely will feel less isolating
      Again, I suspect as the persistent game world builds out, it will become more populated but you’ll likely be able to still go off to a secluded spot on the map and do your own thing if you want.
      Your point is valid, but it’s still very early in the game.

    It looks ok for an Alpha ... but
    - I don't like building
    - I don't like crafting
    - why is so much to collect
    - why does the camera always move after picking an item
    - the world looks too empty
    - it got nothing to stand out to be remembered
    I'm waiting since years for a MMO that is without: statics, leveling, stronger weapons, armor, crafting, building, classes, clans, mounts, trading and most important no endgame.
    Pvp should be punished by woulds that stay, brocken bones and players who kill too many other players (more than 2 in a week) get banned by "Gods" and go to a hell in wich they stay aslong they completed some boring quests.
    Also the game should have almost no UI (just map, inventory and a character info to see the learned skills like swimming, climbing, diving, jumping, ... etc), teleporters should be restricted (travel only from teleporter to an other, with a cooldown of a week), with limited arrows, magic works only with scrolls but they are rare.
    A game that is full of mystery, puzzles, exploration, labyriths, and much more ...... the goal of the game would be to get from the start to the final destination, similar like Frodo's journey in Lord of the Rings (just without the Ring that makes weaker).

      @CasualGamerYT  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Well, it's certainly an MMO in so far as it's a "massive multiplayer" persistent online world.
      The emptiness and lack of things to do is a different problem. I've seen clips of clans with dozens of members building entire towns.
      It's in alpha, so I guess we'll see how the gamplay loop evolves.

    This game is how to say this in a nice way... Garbage. It is so broken, that the crafting system is a masochistic lesson in exaggerated tedium. The resources are very scarce, along with the animals. The combat system is clunkier than Roblox which is sadly to say a more thought out well polished game. Pax Dei is the king of being stunningly beautiful but beyond that, it is a textbook creation of what not to do. With an over 20 man group it took over 6 hours to make the first metal weapon, this required us to set up 10 kilns to supply the 5 forges with enough charcoal to smelt the impure iron to make 20 ingots per forge every hour of real-time. The weapon in question did 4.3 damage to boars and less to the starter wolves. It took us another 24 hours to craft the first chain armor that looked great but still offered no real protection from the starting critters and was less functional than the shitty mace..
    The PVP system is nonexistent and I roamed the vast NOT OPEN World (t has zone lines like Ever Quest)for hours seeing fewer than five creatures that were not tied to a point of interest, yes vast and very devoid of anything. You can not call this game a sandbox survival game as it lacks all the aspects of one, there are no negative effects from not eating, not having shelter, or the weather in any way shape, and form, there is no weather other than the fog in one area period.
    This game is still in the alpha concept stages being so damn rough and empty but they are about to release this trash to Early Access, this game is a graphically stunning copy of Valheim minus the boats, portals, random invasions, and a plethora of other features that simply do not exist leaving this game as a shell of a far better game. There is nothing original about Pax Dei they simply took a better game removed all its features and called it KING.
    Stop accepting shitty games and calling them GOLD, because there has been so little content in this genre that we are so starved for anything that they continue to release games where they put in less and less effort because they know some starved fanboy/girl will buy their hot garbage of a game and call it KING.

    • @henryramos4185
      @henryramos4185 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@CasualGamerYT some work... they have a vast open empty world with very poorly thought out crafting mechanics that bleed over to the clunky combat system. Save your money and buy it a year from now if the game lasts that long. The world is not blurry because it's zoned into sections closed off by zone walls that you can not see through, you are looking at the painted canvas and not the other zone as you can stand on one side and someone else on the other side and you can not see one another. it is 100% a very stripped down version of Valhiem that will come with a buy to play and a subscription to continue to play as well as land Plots being in the cash shop. Fog is the only weather effect in the game period. I hope they do fix all these issues I had such high hopes for the game based on the Dev videos which were blatant lies. It is a beautiful world but currently, that is all it has. I hope their greed does not get the best of them with tokens that speed up crafting or allow you to make items with fewer resources for a given time all for a cash price. We will see but they are leaning heavily in that direction.

    I played alpha-2 for all 7 days. I do not believe Pax Dei is a combat game. It does have both PvP and PvE combat. But if you look at the crafting progression and skill progression, this game is a massive "Time Sink Game". Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Crafting and building systems are purposely designed to take many months, not days to level. I play solo, and could care less about PvP and Dungeon runs. I really enjoyed the brutal crafting and building system. Everything goes at a slow pace. And the World of Pax Dei is pure Eye Candy. Really beautiful and alive. If this game went early access tomorrow, I would buy it and enjoy playing it for months to come. (Also a very good Archery system). "New King of MMO's"? No never! This game is not for everyone.

    • @CasualGamerYT
      @CasualGamerYT  Před 2 měsíci

      It’s certainly a balance that needs to be found.
      If you’re a game developer who’s spent years building something like this, you need people to play it… and frankly, a lot of them.
      Without finding the balance between “enjoyable in short bursts” and “long grind punishing” it’s going to be difficult to attract and keep enough people to make the game viable.
      Most people want to be the main character in video games, not the blacksmith over yonder.
      But we agree with you that there is a certain fun to the methodical and deep crafting and development system in Pax Dei.
