The difference between the Nagas and other tribes like Mizos, Khasis is that they always wear their traditional outfit proudly & especially during Sundays. While for Nagas, Sundays has become a fashion parade. This generation has lost touch with wearing our mekhalas.

On the individual level, Smt Banuo Z Jamir,IAS is the highest ranking Officer to use “Mekhala” in every Govt occasions rather on a daily basis.
However on the official level, Tribal Affairs Department is the first department in Nagaland to officially notify since 2021 to maintain every Wednesday as a day of wearing traditional attires including Mekhala. They are maintaining the practices till date. You have to go to the Directorate of Tribal Affairs on any Wednesday to see it.
So, Smt Banuo Z Jamir is the icon and the Tribal Affairs Department was the trend setter officially.
We should be humble enough to give credit where it is due!

This Starstruck "Mekhala Wednesday" will certainly revolutionized the Textile industry of our State and her Economy, if this trend follow up by the young generation. What if Men's too wear their own tribal Waist coat or Customised traditional blazer like Angami's men wearing their white tribal blazer which will best suit for equal gender.

I think with a little practice n effort it can be very much possible considering the fact that the Mekhala was a daily wear for our mothers n grandmothers during their time and since olden days in all Naga villages. They had to and could complete everyday house chores, even go to field and perform physical works wearing these mekahalas.

So encouraging to witness such an important interview with two enthusiasts and well educated persons. Wearing Mekhala must also be a mandate of all the women from all walks of life in our society, apart from this voluntary movement. Wearing mekhala for women is our culture and we must preserve it for the good cause.
Many women doesn't feel comfortable with mekhala but why so discomfort with our culture? It looks differently when we see women with mekhla going to office or work place, I personally, observe them with huge respect though I've never known about this current trend.
This video must reach out to all the ladies in Nagaland how important and beautiful to wear it. Wonderful video.👍

So wearing Mekhela once in a week sounds a big achievement for our womenfolk of this generation. Most of our grandma's and mum's they only wear Mekhela at home ,at work ,at field ,on journey etc especially rural dwellers and even some of our mothers who live in town only wear Mekhela as they are used to ,ofcourse Mekhela Wednesday might be a great impact on those girls who never wear Mekhela at home etc else for a woman who usually wear Mekhela at home,on sunday ,events etc dont feel like it is a great movement and for rural women it is not a new movement and even many of our mothers and women officers who wear Mekhela to their workplace daily but wearing traditional /tribe Mekhela once in week to work would be really nice 👍..
Meanwhile ,some Mekhela's are common to every women irrespective of tribe ,young and old and those Mekhela's are worn by our womenfolk daily n vice versa .

People are somewhat uncomfortable with the pricing of it but this happens if you buy it in a shop. If we try and get it directly from the weavers the price is very reasonable and i believe we should not shy away from procuring it considering it flaunts our identity and most of the weavers are Mothers who were not fortunate enough to enjoy the
luxury of education and jobs therefore trying to contribute to the family with whatever they can at the cost of painful backache.😕

Our moms' only wear mekhala ,,it just happened that westernisation happened and fashion which is convenient and comfortable took over in the last 20-30 years.
Need to credit our 'foremothers' for being so innovative and inventive in bringing up such outfit called 'mekhala'.
As such reviving it should begin by wearing it to church ,special occasions and weddings etc followed by workplace. Workplace convenience, effects and reception maybe studied as the outfit usually represents the tribe and nagaland being a land of tribalism, nepotism might come into play😂. Anyway kudos for the initiative.

It's been sometime since I'm observing that we the nagas are buying more from outside the state rather than buying from within. Therefore by realising certain factors if we make corrections here and there it would be very good for our state Economy as well as for other reasons too.
