The British-Irish period crime drama Miss Scarlet and the Duke. Starring Kate Phillips as Eliza Scarlet and Stuart Martin as The Duke, the series takes place in Victorian London. There is great news that we have. Just a day ago, Miss Scarlet and the Duke was renewed for Season 4. In fact, even the filming and production have already started, currently taking place in Serbia.
Miss Scarlet and The Duke is a British-American period crime television drama created by Rachael New, starring Kate Phillips and Stuart Martin as the title characters, two Victorian detectives.
The first series began broadcasting on Alibi on 31 March 2020[6] and premiered in the US on 17 January 2021, as part of PBS's Masterpiece anthology series.[7] Miss Scarlet and The Duke was the first series that PBS purchased from, or co-produced with, a British channel other than the BBC, Channel 4, or ITV.[citation needed] In Canada, it is available on CBC Gem.
In Victorian London, 1882, Eliza Scarlet is left almost penniless when her father, Henry, unexpectedly dies. Although marriage would appear to be her only option for financial security, Eliza resolves to continue her father's detective agency alone, working under his name. Struggling to build her reputation in the male-dominated world of crime-solving, she frequently calls on her old friend William Wellington, a gruff detective inspector of Scotland Yard, to help her acquire cases, though she often resorts to stealing case files from his office.
William is known in the police force as "The Duke" or simply "Duke", a nickname referring to the Duke of Wellington.[11] Eliza's late father Henry saved William from the Glasgow streets as a child, and later mentored him through the police academy. As a result, William looked up to Henry as a mentor and father figure. William once kissed Eliza following her mother's death, which he characterises as "a chaste kiss", to her annoyance. Though he is irritated by Eliza's detective aspirations, he cares for her and gradually begins to show respect for her skills.
Eliza also befriends Rupert Parker, a wealthy man who loans her money for her agency as an investment. Rupert is the bachelor (and secretly gay) son of Mrs Parker, who owns Eliza's house, and relies on Eliza's advice to navigate his personal life. Eliza lives with her housekeeper, Ivy, who helped raise her after Eliza's mother died (some time before the series begins). Eliza and William bicker and argue constantly, but also share moments of subtle flirtation and care for each other deeply.
Series writer and creator Rachael New took inspiration for Eliza's character from Elizabeth Bennet, the heroine of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.[11] Born into a middle-class family, Eliza uses her appearance as a refined Victorian lady to her advantage when working on cases. To many people's surprise, however, Eliza is actually clever and feisty, which works in her favour. William and Eliza work on several cases together, though she is uncredited, causing disputes between them. Eliza employs the services of a known criminal, Moses, much to William's annoyance. Moses is amused by Eliza's gumption, and they connect as outsiders to society.

I hope Moses will return. He’s a wonderful member of the Cast and so is Nash.
Truth be told. I only watched for her interactions with the duke.

@@vashonnasworld9791 Stuart Martin decided not to return which I suspect he made in Season Four because he wasnt in much of that year. Very disappointing, as his relationship with Eliza was the only reason I watched
OKAY, official email that the Duke is out and it’s being retitled Miss Scarlet. I wish I could protest. I won’t watch anymore. I stopped watching When Calls The Heart after season 3 when the Mountie was killed, so I can stop watching this, too.

I have a feeling the Duke, Stu had his foot in other projects that he preferred over this series and that's why he wasnt there half the time. And when it came time to renew, he said no. I think if they would have had more episodes in each Season, paid the main characters more and had the Duke and Eliza a romantic couple starting in Season 2, the series could have gone on to 10 seasons. But 6 episodes in a Season is way too little. But i think it will get cancelled now after Season 5 without the Duke. Stu said that he felt it was time to leave.
I miss Anso Kabia. His character made the show so much better.
I don’t understand why the supporting cast has been MIA since season two; Moses and Rupert are entwined with Eliza as assistant and investor.

Well if you do see him it wont be in MSATD. The actor who plays him has left the cast which is a real disappointment.

Me too. I think the problem is they took too long. Should have been something like 3 and done. We could then have had a happy ending.
I think they made their relations sooo difficult… so it would be so hard now to find the way he accepted her career… I think the actor didn’t want to continue filming so they chose this quick and easy season ending…sooo sad…no need to continue this story anymore…

Season 4 very disappointing. Eliza never learns and she never unbends. She will never be with the Duke because she refuses to respect him or listen to him.

I understand, or at least I have read that Stuart Martin will not return. I hope Mr Martin left for a very, very good opportunity. I hope this opportunity leads him to the fame apparently he desires. I do have a little bit of advice for him, just two words, actually,

Season 4 was a disappointment. No further interaction between Scarlet and Duke. What are they waiting for?

We are all dying with anticipation. This waiting is a killer. Hopefully they’ll get together and not string us all along any further. Although now we all got to wait another 12 months 😂
Season 4 started out well but the last two episodes were disappointing. This show does not work without the Duke. In the last scene of episode 4 when the Duke leaves with his suitcase for New York all I could think of was the last scene of Gone With the Wind. Of course unlike Rhett Butler he did not say "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" but rather "This is just goodbye for now". However, I cannot help but wonder if Season 4 is the last season and the writer's have decided just to leave us wondering. If this is the case shame on them. If this is the way it all ends I am sorry I watched any of this show. I wish I had not!

There will be a season 5, but the Duke will NOT be returning. BIG mistake!! The series will not renew for a 6th season after this poor decision. Mark my words!
Season Five will be the end of the show. I think SM just finished it for the other actors.
Season 4 was a much improved season than Season 3. Looking forward to Season 5
