I’ll never forget the domination of the colour teal in the early 2010s
I miss my turquoise jeggings
Yes! Teal and coral were everywhere
Omg you’re right and I’ve been seeing real nails a lot!
Yess a Topshop video. I've never gotten over it. Such cool, quality clothing. RIP!
the high street has never been the same
I miss it so much 😭
I remember I had the bronzer from them, it was so good I miss it 😢
Quality?
@@TayloraurrekoetxeaI am questioning the word quality as well aha
I feel like another big reason why 2014 and the early 2010's are coming back to style is because many people of my age (People born 200-2004) are a huge influence and due to today's stage of the world, become nostalgic and wish to go back to the early 2010's where we were young teenagers and the world just seemed to be a much better place. A perfect example being Bethany mota's old videos, the world was much more colorful, almost everyone liked the same stuff and followed the same trend, while nowadays everyone due to globalisation, likes something completly different which makes it harder to bond with people. I've been longing for the 2010 era since 2020 and it's not surprising that everyojne else is doing it now too.
20 years because that's when the children who watched adults be amazing in their eyes come of age. So y2k children are coming of age and are finally able to buy and dress just like the adults they saw when they were kids.
you saying the clean girl is the 2020s version of business casual!!!! omg it just makes so much sense
I’m still longing for the 90s how are y’all at 2014 already lol
Yeah I don’t want it back. lol. These Gen z and Gen alphas are weird.
same lmao but to answer your comment it’s because of TikTok fashion influencers tbh! they just don’t know how to wear stuff.... they just add “-core” to every little thing imaginable saturate it and then they jump to the next thing. All this in a few weeks mind u... even when they try “old” trends it’s a disaster like y2k that people somehow mixed up with the mcbling style when they are quite literally opposites💀 few people know about real personal style anymore I wish they encouraged to build your own style like a patchwork from trends elements that you like or things you invented yk !originality.. without having to put labels on it.
@creamyextendedpussy9786 haha, I’ve had that photo up since 2016 or 2017
@@TotallyxKatieeyou know gen x and above say the same thing about you millennials right? Stop being hypocritical
@@Imxel21 I’m not a millennial, I’m older end of Gen z
Loving these deep dives Lewys!!! They must take a while to prep for / edit so thanks for your service at all xx
thanks doll
I think what we forget is that when old trends resurface we take the least cringey ones and make them more aesthetic and relevant again. The worst of the cringey ugly trends of the 2010s will never come back because it was never cute in the first place
yeah the happens with every generation it happened with y2k to some degree even tho most of y2k wasn’t real y2k proving your point
Aesthetic is a noun. You mean aesthetically pleasing.
@@TheB14HB14H no I used it correctly
@@Qtopian you did not! But that’s ok, it’s never too late to learn something new.
not me thinking all my fashion choices were completely ✨unique ✨and trend-setting at the time and to now hear Lewys basically describe each era of my teens
Dude I love 2014. Just an amazing year that was. It also had really fun movies.
This was honestly the best time to be in middle school such simple fun times….. I also think now that people are allowed to wear whatever they want and mix styles, which creates so many different trends that it makes it difficult for people to pick one thing to focus on.. also a saturated market of things available makes trends change.
Eventually we'll all be fashionable as the fashion "swing" will just be so back and forth... So we can just wear everything again. I've never followed trends I'm 31, nothing appeals to me anymore I still rock vans, skinny jeans, a t-shirt and a smart blazer.
I just remember discovering Melanie Martinez and playing moviestarplanet in 2014. Such good times ugh
I AM LOSING THE ABILITY TO IDENTIFY BRITISH ACCENTS???!? the way i thought u were american is really so beyond wild lmaoo i gotta log out
I am still sadly too traumatised from the 2010s time, maybe because I was a child and early teenager and my style was basically the worst/most basic stuff out of all of the trends at that time. (Can’t believe my friends called me fashionable when I wore skinny jeans with high knee boots and an oversized T-shirt at the age of 14💀)
However, I do like it when people take the best things from each decade and make it trendy again!
The way it felt like you had stolen my memory card from my blackberry during the swag era pic montage.
These new style of video are AMAZING!!! Can’t wait for more xx
THANK UUU
As much as I'd love that because my tumblr soft grunge inner-self would be ecstatic, don't you feel that we will be going through a more specifically late 2000s revival in the mainstream first? Like I see so many people bringing back very classic mid/late 2000s mall emo on TikTok for example, or hints of what the internet has called twee. I know it has a lot of ties to the early 2010s but there's still a difference between the two.
omg the juicy tracksuit in saltburn is not talked about enough!
In 2012 I had a teacher who hated the mustache trend of the time with a passion. She always talked about how stupid she thought it was. So one time when we had a no uniform day at school my best friend at the time and I came to class decked out in head to toe mustache apparel. We both had mustache tees and leggings and my friend drew mustaches on her knock-off converses with vivid. Someone's mum probably has a picture of it on a digital camera somewhere. Those were the days.
It's weird seeing a retrospective of the year 2014. I was 17 and it feels like it was only yesterday 😅
Loving hearing a gen z react to the mustaches, suspenders, and crazy hair but lemme tell you being a teenager during this era was FUN.
So true what you’re saying about the trend cycle. I feel like celebrities want to be the initiators of trends even more than influencers to stay relevant so that people credit them for wearing it "first". There were just so many things influencers and the online fashion community started wearing after they saw someone like Bella Hadid wearing them.
I need the Topshop video !!! I eat your videos up every time
i was 17 in 2014 ngl i do lowkey miss it but i prefer my adult life😂
Omg i completely forgot about topshop. People went crazy for the jeans and they had a makeup line too
2014 was such a good year. I understand why modern teens are jealous. I was in the j-fashion subculture starting around 2010, and mixed those influences with the “twee” hipster style of the time, as those clothes were more accessible to my teenage self. The subculture trends were elite: mori girl, cult party kei, dolly kei… all those styles felt easier to emulate without the budget to build my lolita wardrobe. ❤
Loved this video! I'm looking back on what I worse as a teen in the 2010's especially 2014 it was big on minimalism. outfits just full of very basic pieces honestly. I can see it coming back, but just refreshed more modern way. Like how it was done recently with the 2000s revival.
OBSESSED with the style of these long vids! Also big yes to that topshop vid, I'm still mourning the loss of it :(
love these type of vidoes sm
yayyy! thank you :)
the way I’m always SEATED for these deep dives, so good and thorough
Oh my gosh I was in high school-college in America during this time and you hit on it all!! This is my favorite era of fashion just because it feels familiar. I have so many pictures of me in these clothes 😂 love it- great job!!

As a 28 year old the ONLY thing I’m happy about is skater skirts and sweaters!
Just discovered your channel yesterday and im loving it! Cant wait to see the topshop deep dive!!
Rise and fall of topshop sounds so good!!!
obsessed with these videos!! I feel like Claire’s had such a big influence on British young teens fashion. Why did we allow bowler hats to be so popular lol lol
i think claire's was made to be combined with ed hardy shirts (or ed hardy wAs made for claire's) 😂
im obsessed with these videos and a topshop one is a musttt
Yes!! Would love a Topshop deep dive! I saw on TikTok digifairy discussed about what happened to Topshop and would love to hear you talk about it (p.s. well done with these long vids, I’ve been really enjoying watching them lately!❤)
LOVE THESE VIDEOS! Like the deep dives and essays. and yes do the topshop!

Have been feeling pangs of yearning for my AA disco pants recently…. should’ve never let them go
Clean girl is new business causal for the depression? I love it
loving this direction for your channel, these videos are really entertaining!
I don't think fashion will ever be mono-culture-centric again and that a good thing. Unlike other era, the 10s are super well documented and it is super easy to have an overview of the trends. It indeed reveals a consumer society centered around flagship everyone wanted, paradoxically wanting to be unique at once. The so called gen-Z culture is just the general zeitgeist, and a continuation of that but with more diversity. There's no longer a generational thing (series, trend, etc.) but a multitude of things to pick from.
My point is, if the 10s were to make a comeback, I don't think it would be about specific pieces like yoga pants, moustache, beanie etc. (maybe at the beginning as an obvious direct reference).
Back in the 10s I hardly imagined how would the 2000s would come back because it sounded like what everyone hated. The mcbling thing might have been directly referenced by influencers. But what the revival really brought is an overall, broad aesthetic and silhouette (baggy, puffy everything, laces, and a street vibe). This translated into brand new ´trends' (Gorpcore, Cyber-grunge, Neo-Y2K, Acubi...)
Thus, if the 10s were to return, an actual revival would be more global, people will try to emulate an idea of the 10s rather than copying the style. As you mentioned, the clean girl thing is a modernization of the corpo-cool style from the 10s. You made me realize that this is exactly how I felt the 10s, the mix of anything (grunge, vintage, goth, arty...) with a slick, business-friendly silhouette
I imagine the current early 2000s revival ending with an 'anti-core' movement drawing inspiration from indie-sleaze and 'tongue-in-cheek', non curated aesthetic. Based on runways, I think it will take a more dystopian tone though (more about the grungy, moody part, less about partying)
no matter how hard life gets i will NEVER be caught dead in 2010’s fashion, y2k and 90’s 4eva
I think that 2010s fashion is horrendous BUT I would love to live my tumblr girl life because I was too young to participate in real time lmao
Aw, you missed one of the greatest eras of the internet
@@NostalgiCrazy at least I remember looking at "I'm not like other girls" memes and pro ana blogs 💀
@@pustelnicaalol pro ana blogs in the late 2000s literally validated my ED when I was a teen 💀 and tumblr continued to reinforce it throughout the 2010s 💀💀💀 thank you internet
Loving these videos sm!!!
mwah mwah!
Great vid! Lol the saltburn reference. Recently made a video ranking 2024 trends and definitely considered the 2010s. A topshop video would be cool!
The thing that always pissed me off is that people called it “galaxy print”, like that’s not a galaxy, that’s a nebula. Much much smaller lol.
LOVE this video, relived my entire teens!!
I think the real way to beat this insane trend cycle is through personal style. Like… just don’t stop wearing the pieces you like! Clearly things will come back around soon enough anyway.
Omg American apparel i worked there in 2015 and man you got me missig some of the pieces i used to wear. I miss wearing my jelly pointed shoes and AA riding pants. I remembered adding studs to my converse and shorts. Wow such good memories, i can see that coming back
I was 25 in 2014, flat broke and living in Paris. I can confirm that, when you can only afford one shirt, it’s gonna be a shirt you can wear to work. I preferred a collared shirt because I could wear it buttoned up with a statement necklace at work, then undo the buttons and have a lower cut in the club/bar. I wasn’t dressing that way because I loved it, but because I had to.
I have to disagree on this as a zoomer myself bringing and doing 2010s nostalgia. It’s way too early way too soon. We didn’t even finish a decade yet.
love these videos!!
i would loveee to see a topshop vid !!
The year I long the most for is 2011. I had just finished high school, I just got my licence, I had an amazing boyfriend, lots of friends, having fun all the time, going out almost every night. It was definitely my year
Oh my goddddd I clocked the Juicey thing too😂😂😂
I love this format of vid
video of topshop is needed
what is the name of the remix with kesha in the first half of the video ???
These are my fave vids omg
i really enjoyed this
So by the 2030s we'll be nostalgic for 2020s, which already is just mixed/recycled fashion of the past few decades.
Have we reached the end of original (every day) fashion?
where did u get ur hoodie!!
So perfectly executed
we wonnn love these new vids
period!
Where did you get your glasses?
JONI JEANS 🥺❤️❤️❤️
Hi did u forget the office siren trend
we NEED the rise and fall of Topshop!!! Living in Australia, it came in here maybe around 2017, but it totally flopped and left the AU market completely
with the resurgence of fifth harmony happening, i’d love to see a 5H deep dive video from you!
You did not talk about the tumblr era without mentioning Acacia, she was THE tumblr girl
You also forgot to mention the obsession with Lana del ray, marina and the diamonds and the disturbing Lolita tumblr side
this video can be used and cited in a fashion course at Uni
WE. EED THE TOPSHOP VID
NEEEED to see the rise and fall of topshop

Top shop vid!!
good vid love 🥰🥰🥰🥰
21:25 to interject, i would say this trend came through during the 2020 economic downturn through not heels but platform shoes! i still can’t go anywhere without a 1” pair of stompers
Help the salt burn comment is so real. Genuinely annoyed me 🥲
We neeeeeed a top shop video yes
Noo I’ve gotten too used to going out in a nice, comfy pair of trainers, don’t bring heels back 🥺 I remember 2014 it was pretty basic and uninspiring so I hope these trends will get updated to be cool. I will be digging out my studded wide belt and ripped grey acid wash skinny jeans tho 🤭
Who’s nostalgic for 2014 😭 I was a barely a teen.
Some people are older than you yk
No I don’t think you understand omg this video >>>> soooo good
Not that I got rid of my Boy London stuff last year
Zoella and the whole crew were my heros
