      you can also go. .
      Settings -> Apps -> Android System WebView -> 3-dot icon in the top corner -> Uninstall Updates
      those steps were for Samsung's OneUI
      each OEM's skin will be a bit different. like MIUI is Settings - apps - manage apps - and then you can find android system webview there. where an uninstall updates option is
      I'm also reading some people have gotten the same result by doing the 'uninstall update' thing on the Google Chrome app

    I didn't realize how important system webview is for games. I disabled it to see if it would save me battery but when I tried playing my game, it kept crashing. I was worried if my game was somehow broken and I didn't want to uninstall it then I decided to enable system webview again because this was right after my game started giving me issues, and my game was working perfectly normal again like before I disabled it. So I'll never disable it again if it keeps my game working

    What does that app do? What happens when we uninstall it?

    • @ExplainingAndroid
      @ExplainingAndroid  Před 3 lety

      it's a framework of sorts that other apps can use to display content. the apps which are force closing or closing right when you try to open them rely on this framework. and google pushed out an update that borks it. should only be temporary until they can get the new update rolled out to your device
      when we uninstall the updates, we're just rolling back the version of the app (think of it as downgrading an app). it reverts back to the version that was installed when you activated your device. so this way your other apps you want to use can still open like normal since the bugged code was uninstalled
      the app isn't being uninstalled, just the 'updates' to that app since you activated it/pulled it out of the box

    • @ExplainingAndroid

      from what I'm reading, this impacting apps that rely on Android System Webview. so. . .if you can open the app and it doesn't crash. then it's not going to erase any data of it.
      but your contacts and photos are stored in separate folders or in the cloud (usually) anyways. so I don't think you're going to lose any of that data (I didn't when I did this last night)
