    When i was probably 4 or 5, my grandfather built these raised planting beds in front of the front porch of our trailer. He and i planted strawberries in one of them, because my mom loves strawberries. After my parents divorced, my dad tried to take the strawberries out and plant other things in it. No matter what he did to that bed, he always kept getting strawberries coming up in it. We think they put roots up under the foundation of the porch and just kept pushing back into the bed, but who knows. Those strawberries were there until after I graduated highschool. So they were apparently doing very well

      @@sketchiscribblr8285 Ohhhhh! That's why! Strawberry is a prolific grower, but they're also prone to some diseases and pests. Planting pepper near it will only make things worse. So, some infections will kill the peppers. Your poor dad 😆 sounds like he learned that the hard way.

Of course I don't know anything about you or your situation but I'm sorry that you didn't have parents. However you might have had a better childhood without them, as hard as that is to believe.
      For those of us without parents or for those that had abusive parents, we have to remember to love and care for ourselves the way we should have received from the loving parents we all deserved. Best wishes to you 🙏

      You can try companion planting. It doesn't work for all bugs, or all plants, but it does work the majority of time.
      Was much easier when I was on our farm, but now that I'm in suburbia I've had to be more selective about what's in my kitchen garden.
      Planting all year basil in pots with garlic chives, thyme and regular chives and popping my tomato pots in the centre of those, I've not had bug problems with any of the plants. I kept birds away from the tomatoes and strawberries by arranging their pots next to my prickly pear (large cactus) or heavily throned roses.
      For fungus, white or black spot on my roses (a result of moving stress) I've been using methylated spirits in a mist sprayer on the whole plant. Starting at once a week for the first month, now I only use it once each season. It also gives the roses a bit of a boost for some reason.
      If you can't do companion planting for any reason, or if you have a pond, encourage native frogs to make their home in your garden. They will love looking after those bugs for you. I hope this helps. 🌹

It was most likely more a compliment than an attack.

    Strawberry plants from seed won’t necessarily give you good strawberries. You need to plant the runners off of good producing plants. The seeds will give you hybrids which are like apples- they will likely be crabapples. So, maybe you’ll get crab-strawberries.

    • @Xizario2
      @Xizario2 Před 2 měsíci +4

      Yes, but not exactly. Wild strawberry taste way better than cultivated strawberry. In contrast with wild apples...
      The downside is that hey are smaller, and chances for the plant to actually survive the given climate are smaller.
      And biggest issue: The strawberry plant have sex genes and can be hermaphrodite, maleness, femalness, partially fertile or fully fertile.
      So in short most of the plants grown from seeds will bloom but have no fruits. Or will not be able to self-pollinate. Or will not be able to self-propagade.
      So if you have 10 plants you will be lucky to have 1 that actually gives fruits and makes shootings for next years.

      Don't skimp on plants and buy heirloom non GMO plants from a reputable greenhouse. Many plants you buy at big box stores or hardware stores like Ace Hardware, contain dis3ases. I found out the hard way. A good sized strawberry patch is a multi year project, GOOD LUCK! When you harvest those berries it's all worth it. Be sure to pluck the small berries from the new plants to encourage stem and foliage growth and root development.

I just burried the bases of baby plants in the soil so they get rooted faster. Even the "hanging" ones were producing fruits (I run out of potting space and let them hang outside the edge of my balcony xD I was spotting fruits from the staircase window xD)
