  • If you’re in the market for an 80x133 sized orbital sander - and there are plenty of reasons why you might be - you’d have found the choices to be pretty modest - until now. In this one I take a ‘first look’ at the DAS 151PS orbital sander, a ‘Deos-alike’ from manufacturer Sealey. Enjoy!

Oooh, you are a tease Peter, new project coming and a reveal of new equipment - always leave them wanting more ! 😉
Will be interested to hear more about your views of the sander when you've got some miles in !

My old 150mm Makita work-horse went all lumpy on me this week. While my mind jumped to prospective replacements, my fingers started to disassemble Dobbin and after a few puffs of compressed air and reassembly, he was spared the knackery. Now I will spend the sander pennies on something else... Three guesses what happens then.

The Bosch GSS is also available as 12V battery with that size ground plate (and some others). Light, with a dustbag. Ideal for smaller jobs. (GSS 12V-13)

The Bosch GSS 18V-10 also comes with a 80x133 pad base (interchangeable with a Festool-sized delta base and a 1/4 sheet base). I really like it.

I am a DIY Woodworker, nothing commercial, but I have been upgrading my tools in the past few years. Last year I wanted to up my sanding gear and found one of your videos about a cheap sander. There seems to be quite a few sanders available online that look almost identical to high end expensive brands, but at a fraction the price. The branding seems to be different based on your country too as i can find the same looking sanders, just under different names. I bought one of them last year, a Mirka clone for under $200 and I have been very pleased with it so far. I will give these and look also. Thanks for the videos!

Thanks Peter for the explanation of sandpaper sheet sizes, it's always baffled me and to some extent it still does that I often end up with silly little strips left over after cutting a sheet down to fit sanding blocks and pads. There's just a lot of nonsensical size pads and blocks out there by the looks of it!

Hi 👋 , Peter , interesting sanders , it is surprising what is on the market nowadays, as I have been retired for the last 6/7. years, I must head that I was forced into retirement, Needless to say, I now live by myself, and I do what I want when I want to do it and how I want to do it, and watch whatever I like when I want to watch it, I find woodworking programs like yourself interesting,
A few years ago, I had a contract to make 18 oak windows , And found some of them difficult to sand , so I purchased a festool , LS 130 EQ Plus, kit , this is a linear sander, Excellent piece of kit, to get into corners where you cannot get normally with any other machine apart from using freehand, And yes, going to the other extreme, I’ve got their half sheet sander as well, RS2E plus,
😂 I now have these tools hanging on the wall as pieces of art, 🖼️ 😂, and sculpture, and the same with some Mafell tools as well,

      @10MinuteWorkshop  Před 2 měsíci

Thanks! Yes, I had the linear sander back when I was doing a lot of window prep as well! Great machine, but of limited appeal for general purpose sanding! 👍

I've just been looking at the bosch GSS 18v 13. Seems a recent offering in their orbital line up. Low profile, no paddle, speed control and looks like it has a meaningful extraction port. Think I'll get one as I have 18v bats. They do a 12v version but it doesn't look as well made - no metal chassis. 👍

Interesting, thanks Stew! I don’t have much in the way of cordless anything other than drills and a 12v saw, but I like the idea of cordless sanders; just waiting for the hoseless vac! 😂👍

Even though Festool produces all "Rutscher" (Palm Sander?) With the exception of the Rts400... I'm staying true to that. I have the RTSC400 and the Mafell sander, with twice the sanding surface of a six inch orbital sander.
    And various other grinders.

Router and sander obsession Peter……. 😂
It seems quite expensive for a sealy product. Bosch blue three year guarantee would steer me down that route along with availability of spares.

I picked up the Bosch 12v BOSCH GSS 12 V-13 Which has a switching pad size. You get the 133x 88 rectangle (Festool) size and then the 100 x 150 mm delta pad (also Festool size). It’s fantastic - I paid about £130 for the complete kit on a special offer, but I think it’s normally about £200.
I also have the Bosch 12v 125mm random orbital - this is a fabulous tool, which has amazing dust collection (in fact, even on minimum power, my midi is too powerful for it!) but mine tends to turn off randomly (fixed by removing battery and re-inserting). It’s my preferred sander for repairing walls/filler as it’s so light :)

The cordless ones are interesting because they are brushless and have updated ergonomics compared to the corded ones, but there's hardly any mention of that on the Festool site. I don't really like how the corded ones feel, but the cordless ones feel pretty nice.

Seems the Festool RTS 400 is still the winner out of all these various copy cat machines, especially considering the marginal price difference of only £150. The environment and wallet doesn't want to hear the old adage of "buy cheap, buy twice", which I feel will almost certainly be the case with these frankly overpriced knock-offs. Appreciate you taking the dive and giving them a good testing to save others the hassle though Peter.
