Brilliant as always. Regards from the other side of the world (Italy...😁).

Excellent trouble-shooting! A joy to watch. I would definitely charge for whatever expenses you incurred during the repair. Short of gross negligence, it's the right thing to do.

    Great job Jonny!
The age old question is to charge or not charge. I think of it this way - you have years of experience and sometimes replacing parts that may become faulty due to a short further down the track can be a legitimate diagnostic strategy. They have brought the unit to you for your expertise and you should charge accordingly. I struggle with constantly questioning whether I am charging correctly, but get reminded by the customer themselves that it is my skills, honesty and experience that they are happy to pay for.
Great job as usual mate and I like your diagnostic thinking process. 😉👍

Great video with a tricky root cause...board flex issues are tough. I am surprised you did not discuss that the fault occurred after you charged the battery a bit and then ran the system on the battery. Was that coincidence due to board flex or would that tidbit have led you to the area where the fault was found? I would also really like it if you showed your multimeter more when probing around. Subscribed!

I think the capacitor was the original fault and the fact it ran on battery was total fluke the board didn't flex in a way to show it up then. I think while moving it after than there must have been enough flex to re-short the cap and blow the input mosfet. Will try squeeze in more meter shots, cheers mate!

Nice fix, as far as charging for parts, I think anything used during the diagnoses and repair should be charged for, unless something happens because a serious mistake was made, such as dropping a screw into a live circuit for instance.

Yeah, I've had a few close calls. If I totally borked something I'd buy them another one.I think I've learnt enough by now to avoid such incidents (touch fingers, cross wood)

Well done jonny, i bet the owner was happy as a sand piper :-D
Or a dog with three trees to piss up lol.
Whatever you charged for the repair would be a lot less than a business doing the same job.
Dam layer crap-a-citors, you only have to fart near one and it shorts lol.

Haha absolutely. Honestly I don't charge anything specifically other than the cost of sourcing parts.
