The Metroidvania That NO ONE Is Playing...

- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is off to a rocky start in the early months of 2024 and that's a shame. While fans were disappointed with the direction the Prince of Persia IP was taken, this particular video game should not be overlooked.
The Lost Crown has amazing platforming, metroidvania elements, and some of the most fun boss fight mechanics I have experienced in quite a while when it comes to this genre. I hope for those of you who have played it are enjoying it as much as I did!

It's a good thing more people are talking about this game, it does look like one of the coolest Meterodvania released this year.
But unfortunately I'll got a couple of reasons why no one bothers to play it and it's because...
-Ubisoft's reputation as a corporate company
-The Community lost their faith to them thanks to their anti consumer responses and practices. Like telling them to get used to not owning games and stuff.
-Releasing and Making this game exclusive on a platform nobody cares about instead of releasing this on steam.
-Games like Infinite Wealth, Palworld, Tekken 8, Persona 3 Reload etc took everyone attention.
-It's priced as if it's a high budget AAA game which it's not ,Like if you compare this to other Metroidvania Masterpieces like Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, Ori and the Blind Forest which funny enough, you can actually buy all of them for the price of this single game and get better millage out of them all, which really says something.
So...Yeah,Not the game's fault or anything.
Blame the higher ups from Ubisoft for being ya know ?...Themselves.
Believe me,If this were an actual Indie game, sold on Steam at under a 40$ price tag, This would have gotten a lot of positive reception and attention.
This is the discussion I want to have with the community. A lot of interesting points here.
Nobody cares about playstation or Nintendo platforms..? Whatever you say
I don't think if the game was on Steam it would make that much difference. It was released on three consoles as well after all.
You do know that you don't really "own" your games on Steam, right? Read their ToS.
"Platform noone cares about" Are you drunk? It released on PS4/5. Which are among the most common consoles.
Look I’ve been gaming since Atari. I’m no professional critic but hands down this game delivers on every level and had me hooked till the end.
Couldn’t agree more. And I’m not even a platformer guy!
Same way bro. It is not the best game ever but not the worst one either. And I liked it. Game didn’t bore me. The only thing I wish to have “going back in time” power. That would be cool. Like in movie😅
Not as good as hollow knight
Just cause you've been gaming since atari aka (living in your parents basement at 50)
@@truthseeker8139hollow knight is great no doubt but that doesn’t mean this game isn’t awesome too
I’ve nearly finished it on Switch, it’s a fantastic game. Well recommended, especially on handheld.
True, also played almost to the end and its awesome..will finish it the next days and sad that its over😢
Not gonna lie, Karl, wasn't expecting your channel niche when I clicked your name. Looks interesting. I will have to check out some of your content.
Damn bro i thought it as a fake account until i saw the check mark.
This game is straight-up awesome. The best thing Ubisoft has put out in years. Bravo!
Yep and it still is insane to me how this runs extremely well on Nintendo switch
True
@@outright4697that’s because they made the switch version first and ported it to other consoles after
U didn’t like Mario rabbids or the newer AC Games
@@madnessarcade7447 Mario games aren't my thing honestly. My youngest son somewhat enjoyed it on his Switch... he's 10 years old. It wasn't his favorite game by any means, though.
The newer AC games are bloated grind-a-thons (except Mirage, which is a solid enough return to form) but this new PoP game is a perfect mix of old school metroidvania with fluidity and killer mechanics. This game is better than Mirage.
At some point, you will come to the realization that you have already played more than half of this game without unlocking the double jump ability.
Yeah it's pretty wild. I wanted a double jump so bad the entire game but I thought maybe the dash took its place. But once you get it, it makes everything even better.
I got about 100 hours in this game did it on multiple difficulties the crazy thing is I didn't get bored. The second time I played I came across items I missed the first time playing on the last difficulty made me experiment more with the combat system. Not to mention how difficult the boss fights actually were it was actually nice to be challenged. Fighting a variety of a diverse enemies was a pleasant surprise. Not to mention the puzzles actually made you think
Super well said. I can’t wait to play it again.
@@marcuscostello5635 takes away from the experience. That's the easy route. I like to enjoy games not rush through them Also I never play a game on the hardest difficulty at first or start at normal then the next time I play the game I go up a level.
Bro I do the same thing haha
I didn't play on multiple difficulties, but I've finished my 3rd playthrough, including my first 2, on a modified version of the immortal difficulty setting. I left the enemy health, damage, and environmental damage the same, set parry window on easy, dodge window on long, athra buildup on 2 and athra loss at 0. This way I was able to get a lot of easy parries and athra buildup, but it's still easy to die if I make too many mistakes.
Man the puzzles are actually so fun to clear... mAnd the cheer amount of true pure platforming is just out of this world.
My wife is not into video games but she has been fascinated by this game. It is both accessible and difficult to keep it intriguing. I think this is a great game and people should really give it a go
Bro as an Iranian I can tell you this game was the most persian game I’ve ever played! Lore is persian mythology and everything is designed very carefully. Music is really persian made by persian song writers and the gameplay is just solid! Bugs are absolutely minimal and gameplay flow is just smooth. I enjoyed it a lot. My wife is enjoying it a lot and I hope to see more games with real persian theme in the future. Well done ubisoft.
By the way, is it pronounced “owbisoft” or “yoobisoft”..?
OOO-bee-soft :)
And that is really interesting to note, I am glad that it is authentic to the cultures it depicting.
Lol, I'm playing it on PS4. The Ori games and Hollow Knight are my top modern Metroidvania games. This is up there with them for me.
I need to check out Hollow Knight then. Or maybe I should wait until HK2?!
@@thebit69 No play Hollow Knight. It is the greatest Metroidvania ever. Truly a masterpiece.
We have no idea when HK: Silksong is coming out. It's been like 5 years since it was announced and we still don't have a release date.
@@thebit69I second this! Definitely play hollow knight. It’s slow for the initial two hours or so, doing a lot of world building and such, but once it gets going and you get the first few abilities, it never lets up. It’s just one of the greatest experiences you can have in a video game.
@@thebit69 HK 2 has an uncertain release date and HK 1 already has enough content to keep you entertained
Just stumbled across your channel, after watching the video I was shocked to see how many subscribers you have! The video quality, editing, script was all absolutely brilliant, no doubt you keep continuing what you’re doing this channel is going to be huge!
Thank you Danny! I am so grateful for your comment! It really means so damn much to me!
One thing most people dont talk about this game is the music. I think while you’re running around theres a lack of it, but in bosses its amazing.
The one thing I really like doing is throwing the Chakra and when it comes back to you, parry it. It sends it back and you can do this as long as you time it correctly. It will stun lock most enemies. I like how there are ways to use your abilities that they don't out right tell you. I was pumped when I realized you can parry your own weapon.
....what?! I had no idea you could do that.
You should play the fighting tutorial than there it got explained @@thebit69

Hope you're having a great day :)
I haven’t actually played any Prince of Persia game before, but this one got my interest when it was revealed because many things about the gameplay immediately reminded me of Metroid Dread. I have not been disappointed so far! I just fought a boss in Prince of Persia where many of its attack patterns were very clearly inspired by the Experiment Z-57 boss in Dread and it was great!
16:35 “There’s a reason the classics are a classic for a reason.” LOL
Great video, mate!
Lmaooo. This is what I get for editing at 4am.
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is how a platform should be when done right. Interesting, engaging, great puzzles and story. Makes Metriod Dread look simplitic in design in comparison. Yes we got more of a spin off but one that outshines many in the same genre.
Absolutely 💯
Fantastic game! Im close to the end and looking forward to playing more. Gameplay, pacing and variety are so good!! :)
It’s a perfect game in the sense of development. Absolutely loved it.
@@thebit69 some of the best level design in the genre... splendid pacing and design
The credits on this game are as long as a Lord of the Rings movie.
Hahahaha!
Thank you. Now I know I wasn't the only person
😂😂😂 Thought the same thing
They even added a "speed up" option because of how long it was
Which is funny considering that Hollow Knight was made by three people and has more content than this, while also being three times cheaper...
Blazed through it in 26 hours. Could not put it down. Can't wait for a sequel.
Tbf Im a slow player ,exploring almost everything but it took my only 24 hours , did you 100% it?
I was impressed about the creativity and gameplay flow in this little hidden gem. Enjoyed every single second and I will definitely replay it one day
This game is effing amazing! Nice review.

Thanks so much, Parallel! I'm super grateful for your support! Gonna be a good year with 2024 and the games industry.
I just finished this game is was AMAZING. Loved every minute of it.
Just finished it last night. Best combat I've seen in a Metroidvania. Hoping for more!!
I am over 20 hours in. Love the smooth gameplay, action, platforming and variety in exploration in the environment. I bought it on switch and I will have my review up soon. :) Great video. You have anew subscriber
Thank you brother!
I like how the title says the metroidvania nobody's playing. It only takes 1 person to play this game for the title to be false.
I like the commentor doesn't know what colloquialisms are. It only takes one person to know that he has no lingual/social comprehension.
The fact I can't play it easily because it's not sold on Steam.
I know that definitely sucks.
It s on epic game
Ubisoft is annoying like that. They'd rather kill their PC sales than give Steam a piece.
@@aaronhumphrey3514 30% is a substantial cut for what is basically just a software launcher.
@@lycanwarrior2137 Well yeah, but if nearly everyone actively avoids the launchers their games release on then it seems quite likely they are losing money by not putting their games on Steam.
You nailed it in the first few seconds of the video. Did not think for one second this game would be good. But it is incredible I love it not a single flaw in this game to me. Boss fights are top teir some of the best boss fights ive played in a game. It will be hard to top this as my number 1 game played this year (my opinion dont care if anyone agrees) love it.
I just want to say to anybody who played and loved hollow knight, as a person who played and loved hollow knight, you owe it to the entire community to buy this game. We need to send the message that this is something that gamers want
I want HK2 to come out so bad. I never have played the first HK, but I don't want to play it and then the second one come out like a month later.
@@thebit69 that's exactly the way you should do it!
@thebit69 it starts off slower than pop but it is a longer game I think. It lacks the combat complexity as far as comboing but it's my favorite m.v. game
@@chrishastings7583 People talk about how great it is, I really think I need to play it
I‘m a huge POP fan, played every main POP game (including POP 3d). And I was sooo skeptical about this game, even don‘t want to play it. After I played the Demo I have to buy the full game. And after playing it for over 20 hours: This game is absolutely amazing and probably one of the best games I have ever played.
The only problem i had with this game was the recovering bird from the pirate quest. The bug didnt let me finish it on my first run. But i was able to do it on the second run and plat it.
Will buy this end of Month and look forward to it :)
idk maybe ppl didn't want to play as Killmonger.
How did you end up playing it on your steam deck? This seems like the kind of game i'd want to play on there. Long time Prince of Persia fan, great vid btw! I liked how you covered multiple angles about the game.
Thanks man! I appreciate it!
It's super easy to play on your Steam Deck! Download the Ubisoft Launcher in desktop mode on your deck. And then open up the steam app in desktop mode, and add the ubisoft software into your library. And then go back to Big Picture mode and install the game/play it.
it's really that easy. I know there are tutorials online for how to install battle.net on a steam deck and it is the EXACT same process.
It’s because it’s $50. I feel like good metroidvania games are rarely above $30, with really good ones like Hollow Knight only being $15.
At least after its release, it was poured with praises and I think quite a lot of people play it (more than I expected at least).
I played the demo for 15mins was sold so I bought it on PC and, Switch. Just finished it with 92% completion on Immortal mode. Can't wait for their next entry.
Played the demo too, did you prefer the start of the demo or the start of tge actuall game?
This game has literally made me buy the hd trilogy.. I’ve never had any interest in the pop series but this game is an absolute masterpiece
I've been playing it since it came out, really good game. It's definitely my favorite Ubisoft
Oh its an absolutely great game, had me hooked the entire run, I loved the puzzles and combat skill floor vs ceiling. This game delivers on so many levels
Played trough it in like 4-5 days and I enjoyed every second of it. I really hope it gets a second game like that .
I seriously think the same thing! I just 100% completed it and it was straight up amazing. Right up there with Metroid Dread and Hollow Knight in my opinion in terms of 2D Metroidvania. I honestly wouldn't have played it unless I watched the GDQ speedrun of it, because it reminded me so much of Metroid Dread gameplay which I love. Cheers!
I just finished this on switch. So amazing! No bugs! Please please please pick this up if you haven’t yet !
I finished it at the 80 hour mark and still going through to 100% it, definitely kept my interest from start to finish! Excellent game, top notch control, excellent puzzles and a good progression system!
This is my first Prince of Persia game and have put a little over 80 hours into it and love it. I’m just curious but what do you consider “The Core identity of Prince of Persia” and how does The Lost Crown fall short?
What I was speaking too in that section was primarily how the fans have been feeling burned by Ubisoft by not getting a 3rd person single player action rpg type game like sands of time or something along those lines. Fans have been begging for it for a while from my understanding.
And understand why their perceive a “2-d side scroller” falling short in that regard as also the story isn’t super good.
But other than that as a stand alone title I think it’s fantastic. It’s just went you call it a “prince of Persia game” I see why they’re annoyed.
If would be like if they made a resident evil game a battle royale with cartoony graphics. It’s just not the same.
@@thebit69 I appreciate the response and I can understand that reaction. Though Prince of Persia originally started as a 2D game so the Lost Crown is a nice little return to its roots. I personally liked the story for what it was and reading all the lore items in the game definitely helped even if there are some details that I wish got more focus. The big one being the implication that Sargon is the third son of the Queen and was swapped at birth with the one that gets kidnapped, which does in fact make him a Prince. It also helps add another layer to the narrative by having the child make up for the mistakes of the parent.
This game is over all a very good surprise to hold fans over while the Sands of Time remake is being worked on by a different team at Ubisoft. The example you gave remindeds me of how furious Metroid fans got when Nintendo announced Federation Force after the series had been dormant. However, Nintendo later announced Metroid Prime 4, Samus Returns, and we got Metroid Dread a few years ago. The Lost Crown is an Amazing game so it all worked out in the end. I don’t think we’ve seen the end of the POP franchise.
@@marcuscostello5635 I played though it a second time because I had that much fun.
This is the first Prince of Persia game i have played. This is so cool game and i like the combat. This game makes you feel like Goku with Swords and all the other power ups.
Game fell under my radar like most people. Huge surprise especially from Ubisoft.
I'm glad you think that way, Ubisoft should be encouraged to make more stuff like this.@@marcuscostello5635
Honestly what was so surprising was the fact that a Ubisoft game would beat Hollow Knight and Blasphemous as my favourite metroidvanias
The game is brilliant. I am playing on switch and just got to the final boss. The game play is so fluid and fun. The level design is sublime
This was a fantastic game. A must play for any fans of Metroidvanias or platformers. I will likely get another copy for Switch on down the line to have it with me wherever I go.
Every review channel has recommended this game. It’s next on my list after banisheers ghost of new Eden, but I must finish death stranding, then ghosts new Eden, then I’ll get an Ubisoft connect plus membership! Yay backlog!
Hell yeah definitely going to try this on emulator nice video 👍 🕹️ 😊
Its awesome. You're gonna have a great time!
Really great game. Tight controls, fun combat, cool characters and bosses. I played it on the series x and had a blast with it!
Prince of Persia, and the lost crown is especially impressive on the switch, especially as people were saying the switch couldn’t handle it at 60 frames per second. I’m an avid defender of the switch, especially with third-party games because many people like to dismiss the switch because of its age. This game shows that the switch is still more than up to the task. If the effort is put into the game, in fact, the switch version is the lead version.
The game is amazing. I rolled credits this weekend.
Just look at that character "design" man
i finished it but giving up in getting platinum .. this game is fantastic
This is hard! I love it.
I'm playing it and LOVE it!!
On PC, I and many others are just waiting for it to come to Steam. EGS is such a pain....
Hollow knight is my all time favorite in recent times (followed by Metroid Dread and Ori) but this comes awfully close to topping it.
Also to add if you enjoyed the challenge of the white palace (more specifically PoP) in HK, this game will be right up your alley with its obstacle courses.
Need more games like this. It is awesome.
Because Ubisoft. Honestly I am VERY interested in playing this but the online requirements, CEO's misguided vision and just Ubisoft's shittyness as a company have really turned me away.
Sick game, highy recommend!
I'm going to be honest here. I was skeptical when this game was announced last year and didn't give it much thought afterwards because I was more focused on AC Mirage, but after this video, I'm going to get myself a copy....🙂😊😁
Thank you for having an open mind. I felt the same way. It’s a good game. I think about it fondly.
The game is amazing! I can’t believe more people aren’t playing.
i longed for metroid dread … still haven’t made it through.
this? couldn’t put it down… music is brilliant, action is brilliant. it’s a beautiful experience from root to fruit.
I haven't finished dread either. There is a level of accessibility and intrigue in this game that a lot of platformers don't really have.
I didn't even know this came out
Because people are out of their damn minds, this game is amazing I even rank in better then android dread. Hope you all are loving it as much as me, currently stuck on the forest queen kiana boss fight
I can't entirely recommend it for PS5 because there are some annoying glitches with appearing outside the map (and dying). The actions aren’t married well with the controller. The fighting is, but the platforming not at all. Story is great. Music excellent. But the final boss fight is even more glitched. If the boss pushes you into the glass barriers (borders), your character will be forced through them. You will then just have to jump off the edge of the map to reset. As soon as you do, if the final boss had a speck of health, he now has a full health bar. You also aren't compensated with getting your health potions back. This horrible bug made the final boss fight last longer than it should have. He has many attacks that could force you against these walls or you could go close to them to evade his attacks. He will then push you through them or if a cinematic happens, such as when he uses a parry-able move, that cinematic will force your character through the border. I like that there is platform assist for players who just want to play the story and not spend half an hour on complicated platforming strategies. I also like how it doesn’t punish you or make the game difficult to complete if you didn’t get every collectable in the game. But yes, those glitches I mentioned and how the controls weren’t all the great for platforming was what killed the game for me. When I beat it, this was one and done. Never bothering with it again. I am a PoP fan too. I've played every single one of them. I can't say I like how they went away from tradition. I know this was a tribute to the Atari version, but I really liked the old school PS versions. Except PoP2 lol. That one was not that great. But I used to play them multiple times because the story and game play was great. This one. Nope.
Agree! One of the best games I have played in years!
This game is amazing. Definitely my favorite so far in 2024.
I'm not playing it now because it's an Ubisoft game which means it'll go down in price soon. Most of their games will go on sale after only a few months. I love what I see but I'm in no rush to play it.
I started playing last week and I gotta say best metroidvania by far
Agree
100% Agree!
Fantastic game after I took the plunge and collecting the collectibles was poxy frustrating I’ve ever had to do but you know what it was the most satisfying when I done it. Apart from 3 I could do but have decided not too after 4
Of the achievements haven’t popped.
It is incredible. If you like metroidvanias it is CRIMINAL to not be playing this one. Play it on harder difficulty. It is a savage game.
It's an amazing game, I love that's long and I love the boss fights too. They did a great job
it a good game people who plays platformer games they understands it
By the looks of it only streamers or walkthrough channels are the only ones playing it.
Yeah I kinda agree
It's one of the best games I've literally ever played before. And I've never gotten into side scrolling 2d metroidvania games.
I’m not playing it due to not having my consoles hooked up….im in the middle of moving projects. I am interested in it though and wanna play it….
I'm playing this and I love it. It's my third day-one-buy in the last 5 years or so. For context: I usually finish about 20-30 (mostly short) games a year in about 500-600h.
I love it.
BTW day-one mainly because Ubisoft should note that these kind of games are great and move away from the generic ACs.
Waiting for it to release on Steam.
I have to say I was one that doubted this game but wow was I wrong ! Amazing 2d game
It's mainly the high price and the fact that it's 2-2.5d. As well as not being on steam. Original before release, there was a good amount of ppl complaining it wasn't a 3d prince of Persia like warrior within. But that didn't have a big effect in my opinion. Nowadays, ppl expect big AAA studios to make huge open world games that last 40 plus hours. They've gotten used to those types of games and seeing a game that is 2d but a lot of ppl off. Another thing, prince of Persia is more known by us older gamers. Most ppl 20 and under won't understand the hype. It's a niche game to them. I believe if it was 39.99, sold on steam as well, it would've had more success. I still think they made a good profit. The cost to make this game was probably a lot cheaper than ppl think.
This is a solid 9/10 game the only negative is the story is meh but actual gameplay was so good It actually convinced me that I wouldn’t mind if Ubisoft never went back to 3D for this series
Story is lame but its not even why I played it haha
I found the story pretty engaging. Sargon became one of my favourite characters and the world building is my favourite of the series, if there is a sequal, I can expect them to make it better
I played and finished every prince of Persia game, even the original. To me it doesn’t feel like a prince of Persia (just like with the first remake). But it’s still a cool action platformer.
this is my fav PoP game tied w/Sands of Time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I love this game. I cannot put it down
Anyone who pays this game a single second of attention is hooked
This game is a gem. I would rank it amongst the top 10 of all metroid vania together with SOTN, Super metroid, Hollow knight and Ori and the will of whips...
PURE plateformer with tons of challenge. The bosses are awesome, the scenario is compelling, the size is massive, and the secrets are like...the most i have seen in the genre ever.
If you call yourself a gamer, do yourself a service and buy this game instantly... you won't regret a second.
I never really got into Hollow Knight or Ori, I might even put this game in top 5 just under or above Metroid Dread
@@chloeryanvtuber hollow knight is special but I admit somehow can put people down for the slow low mood... It is amazing though. ori I advise you to push as both games are fantastic. The second one being a lot more rounded and close to perfect.
To me dread is not in top 5 because it's too easy, not enough innovation, and somehow was great but I preferred the like of axiom verge for instance.
@@DownMemoryLaneParis i still have those games in my list so I'll be playing them, they just didn't really grab me like this game does. Axiom Verge is really good, and I do kinda agree about Metroid Dread but I found it harder than fusion personally (maybe its just because I've played fusion too many times)
It's a fantastic game but was riddled with lots of bugs and glitches, some would halt side quest progressions. They have been rolling out patches to fix it over the past few weeks so most of the bigger issues are being addressed.
This game is awesome. Just finished the final boss
This game seems like a perfect candidate for Game Pass or Ubisoft +. I'm a big fan of the PoP series but it definitely looks like a smaller adventure.
Came out also the same time Ubisoft exec said we should be comfortable not owning our games.
Metroidvania as a genre is not mainstream enough. It's weird they decided to give POP a shot after such a break by putting the franchise into one of the genres most people won't be interested in. Price is also a bit too high, it has the content, yes, but most metroidvania games are priced at $30. Here comes Ubisoft with $50.
I personally really like the game, but longer I play the more I see that it isn't polished enough. I'm getting stuck in slide animation during the fight, running animation during fight transitions, swords glued to my face during mid-fight cutscenes, hit by projectiles despite me being clearly above them (recorded footage to check it even more and it happens a lot, and the last one but the worst offense - During the Kiana fight, after the fight transitioned to her world, I got hit by air, which automatically took out One of Four health bars, and completely ruined the flow of the fight - so I died.
It's not a polished game. It's still unfortunately, as much as I may like it, is a Ubisoft game.
Fantastic game. I'm 96% complete at 50 hours. Very challenging even on normal difficulty
I rarely play to platinum a game. This worth it!
I want this game so bad but i will to buy it when on sales
its been a long time since we have a game that focuses in game play more than visual, but don’t get me wrong lost crown 👑 is a good looking game
