    Big fan of yours and like you I applied to U of T, Waterloo, Queen's, Ontario Tech, York and UWindsor and so far got in to all of them for computer science except for Waterloo (waiting).
    Congrats to you and hope your studies are going well:)

    As a current grade 12 student, I was wondering if you participated in any of the Waterloo Contests, due to the pandemic I was not able to write the contests for grade 11 (not provided by the school), and I am just planning to write the Euclid this year. Do you think that Waterloo looks at the scores of these contests (if you don't mind sharing, have you gotten any distinctions?) and is it alright if I do not write the CCC (I don't feel ready for it). Thank you for the lovely video!!!

    Hi Maryam
    What marks did you get in physics and chemistry?
    Also, in your opinion, what lowest percentage can a person have that can almost guarantee them an admission to Waterloo Computer Science?

    • @MaryamAfshar
      @MaryamAfshar  Před 4 lety +2

      hey, I had a 92 in chem and a 88 in physics. I'm not too sure for the lowest percentage to get into UW cs. Waterloo accepted a lot more people this year. I would say aim for a 95+ average but nothing is guaranteed.

    What was your overall average in gr11 and gr12? Also do universities look at gr11 marks? Or do they just look at first semester gr12 marks?

    • @MaryamAfshar
      @MaryamAfshar  Před 4 lety +3

      In grade 12, my overall avg for engineering was a 92 and for CS it was a 94. My grade 11 avg was very similar to my grade 12 avg. Grade 11 marks do matter if you're applying for early acceptance but universities will mostly look at your February and April grade 12 marks.

    hey! first of all thanks for this super useful video
    for uw and uoft when i list my references for clubs i’ve been a member in or past jobs, there’s just this small fear that the references i list won’t respond/answer(?) back if any of these universities contact them for confirmation 😅do you think i should still list them (i heard they ignore anything they can’t verify?)? & also, due to covid my ecs are kind of limited- do you think for engineering two past work experiences at part time jobs and exec of a club is decent? along with being members of others of avg low-mid 90
    thanks so much if you respond:)

    • @MaryamAfshar
      @MaryamAfshar  Před 3 lety +1

      hey, glad you enjoyed the video! I would say list everything even if you think your references won't respond (I believe uoft verifies but Waterloo doesn't). Also, don't worry if you have limited ec, many students are in the same boat as you and I think Universities will take that into consideration. Past work experience is always impressive. I hope I answered all your questions and best of luck!

    Hey, I'm in grade 11 right now and this quadmester system gave me chemistry functions and nightschool physics this quad and my marks are not good at all, how much will my grade 11 marks matter? These are my 3 main courses as well but just happened to all be squished in one quad. I'm planning on redoing all three courses through tutor over to summer to get a better
    understanding, hopefully to do much better in grade 12. I understand grade 11 marks won't matter as much if I do regular acceptance but is that a disadvantage compared to early acceptance?

    • @MaryamAfshar
      @MaryamAfshar  Před 3 lety +1

      hey William, many competitive programs like Waterloo and UofT engineering/computer science don't give early acceptances (or they give out very few). Grade 12 marks are more important so try your best in grade 12 and good luck!
