- This week Pastor David Guzik answers the question "Does God always heal everyone?". He takes a look at a publication by Pastor Bill Johnson of Bethel Church, "Jesus Christ is Perfect Theology" and compares it to what the Bible has to say on the topic of Healing and Suffering. Pastor David discusses a theory a lot of Christian movements and churches promote, known as the "Heaven on Earth" approach, saying that what is true for the Kingdom of Heaven is also true for the lifetime we have on this earth.

I do respectfully disagree with your points though.
1/ You talked about death being a kind of sickness. Galatians 3:13 says we have been redeemed from the curse of the law’ (not the curse of the fall). Death will remain till God restores all things.
Deut 28 ( the curse that we have been redeemed from) speaks in detail of all sorts of diseases, and v61 talks about sickness and plague, not even written in the Law. Christ through his redemption has redeemed us from all of it.
2/ You said that not everything in our redemption is available now.
I fully agree. We only know things in part now, but soon we will see all things clearly. We will only receive our crowns and rewards later. Much of our authority will be established later. There is a lot to look forward to, but healing does not have to be one of them.
Salvation and healing is available today.

3/You did quote James 5:14 but you didn’t keep going to v 15
“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”

You said that we should still pray for the sick and believe for healing, but you can not believe (have faith) for healing if you don’t know Gods will or what He has said. Faith comes by hearing. And faith is the substance of the thing hoped for.
Mark 16:18 says
18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
We should be more concerned about offending God rather than people
Why is it an issue to say it’s faith?
Jesus had no problem telling His disciples their faith was too small.
I can’t help but think that this kind of doctrine plays to the people. Instead we should keep seeking, keep standing. Keep fighting. Keep resisting. It’s Christ who gives us the victory but we are called to be believers.
Instead of making excuses for what is written, we should be seeking God for revelation
I have many questions about healing, and have at times prayed for people, including myself and not seen healing.
But I don’t use my experiences to interpret the word of God
I believe let God be true and every man a liar.
If faith can receive the greatest gift of salvation it can sure receive healing.
This kind of doctrine steals peoples faith, not builds it.
Who after listening to this would have said “ I’m one of the few who could be healed by faith”
How would they know they were one of the (lucky) ones. How does somebody know they can’t be healed by faith, when should they quit standing by faith and which scripture gives this direction.

Did you listen to the material around 46 to 49 minutes which describes what happens to people who aren’t healed, when we follow Bill Johnson’s teaching? David argues (and I’ve seen it happen) that because of Bill’s theology, the unhealed sick tend to be ignored?
And after that he criticises Bill Johnson for arguing that suffering can never be of God: “Things have disintegrated so far that many consider sickness to be sent or allowed by God to build our character” page 16. Do you agree with David that Bill is wrong to think that sickness is never allowed by God to build our character? What did you think of all the verses David used to show that that Bill is wrong?
I have seen the fallout of Bethel teaching in real lives and it is utterly tragic. David says you must apologise if you have assured people of healing which has never actually come. I agree.
@@garthsyvret1580 Hi Garth. Apologies, I have only just seen your reply to this comment. I’m not familiar with Bill Johnstons teachings, but I have herd of him. I don’t really know what he teaches. David is excellent though, his bible commentary is outstanding. I do agree that God allows sickness, but not to build character. What He allows and what His perfect will is, are very different things. God allowed sin in the earth, but we know it’s not His will. We live in a fallen world and sickness is a part of it. Everybody is susceptible to it. The point is, it came in with sin. It’s origin is of the devil. And Jesus came to destroy the works of the enemy. It’s a popular thing to preach that sometimes God says “no” to our prayer. However this kind of doctrine only tickles the ears of those wanting to hear it. The Bible says that all the promises of God in Christ, are yes and amen. We are warned to preach the word, not ideas and thoughts. There is not 1 example in the New Testament of God refusing Healing. There is only promise of it, if we are not double minded. Faith plays an enormous role in our ability to receive from God, even salvation cannot be received without it. I Love David’s ministry, I just disagreed with him on this.

Yes. True. Over here in the Western world, we have largely bern taught we are not supposed to SUFFER.
Our modern world and culture has been called a "palliative society," one that seeks only to mitigate the pain or the effects of a condition (medical, spiritual, emotional, political, economic, etc) while paying no attention to remedying the cause or source of a condition - it rejects the reality in favor of a simulation or cheap imitation, all the while never getting to the roots of the issues.
Christ Himself learned obedience through suffering, how much more importantly should our own suffering be to our growth and development?

This was such a great compassionate view on this subject. I've seen so much abuse in this area. I was subjected to suffering as the result of ignorant uncompassionate church goers.

I have been thoroughly enjoying your teaching on Jeremiah and your teaching on the parables of the Kingdom in Matthew 13. I am of the opinion that our theology on healing is one such element of corruption in the Kingdom. The message being distorted from that which Jesus demonstrated.
It is of vital importance that as the Church we get our theology on healing and salvation straight...the world needs us! In Psalm 91 we are promised to be satisfied with long life and to be shown God’s salvation...not our man made understanding of salvation. The maybe, maybe not position we have on healing that says ultimately we are healed in eternity isn’t what Jesus demonstrated and isn’t the witness of the New Testament.
Sickness in the Old Testament was a curse and sent as judgement. As another comment rightly pointed out we have been redeemed from the curse of the law (Gal 3:13). He forgives ALL our iniquity, He heals ALL our diseases (Ps 103:3). Neither of these truths are automatic but need to be appropriated by the individual. These are the benefits for those who put their trust in Jesus not universal benefits for all mankind...even though they are available to all mankind...God’s not willing that any should perish (2 Pet 3:9).
Jesus in His earthly ministry went about proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing EVERY disease and EVERY affliction among the people (Matt 4:23). Elsewhere the Bible says He went about doing good and healing ALL who were oppressed of the devil (Acts 10:38). These are facts that make us a little uncomfortable when we think about them because our own experience doesn’t match this let alone exceed it like Jesus promised (John 14:12). And so we ask the question why?
The NT writers provide us with some answers to that question. In 1 Corinthians 11:29-30 we are told that failure to discern the body has brought sickness and death into the church at Corinth. So we consider what it means to discern the body. In Revelation 2:18-29 we are told that sickness, death and great tribulation are sent by the Lord to the church at Thyatira because they tolerate the false prophetess Jezebel who teaches the people to commit idolatry. And we recognise the subtle ways these things can creep in from the warnings in Jude and consider in what ways we have tolerated Jezebel and committed idolatry. We see in Acts 5:1-11 that both Ananias and Sapphira were struck dead for lying about the money they brought as an offering to the Lord. And we soberly reflect on the ways we ourselves compromise and tolerate compromise.
David Guzik stated that people who believe that it is God’s will to heal every time are essentially saying that people who aren’t healed either don’t believe the truth or don’t have enough faith. He has missed two important other factors. Firstly there are natural causes for sickness. All sickness isn’t the result of unbelief or our sin or our lack of faith but sometimes there is a natural cause that a natural remedy will solve. Is there a biblical example of this? Yes. Paul in writing to Timothy instructed him to drink a little wine instead of drinking only water for the sake of his stomach and his frequent ailments (1 Tim 5:23). There is reason to believe his stomach was being affected by drinking the local water and that this could be resolved by avoiding the water and drinking wine instead. Whatever the cause, the remedy here was natural.
The second factor is that we have an enemy who we are told in 1 Peter 5:8 prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. And we recognise that sometimes he succeeds. Sometimes we are overcome by the temptation, sometimes we are overcome by sickness, sometimes we don’t see the sick healed and they die. Sometimes the devil gets the apparent win. But God! Praise the Lord death is not the end. And that even if we die, we win...to live is Christ to die is gain (Phil 1:21). But let us not reduce the Gospel to that which we experience. Let us not constrain God’s will to what we see with our eyes. The Word is the revealed will of God. Bill Johnson is correct to say Jesus is perfect theology...He is the perfect representation of the Father therefore the perfect demonstration of the Father’s will.
I believe we need a fresh revelation of the Lord. The vision of the Lord Isaiah had in Isaiah 6...the Lord high and lifted up seated on His throne and the train of His robe filling the temple (v1). This is our exalted Lord Jesus Christ who when He walked this earth wearing His priestly garments the very edge of His garment when touched healed the people (Matt 9:20 and Matt 14:36)...as many as touched Him were healed. And Isaiah’s response to this vision was to cry out “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips” (v5) His eyes had seen the King and he became acutely aware of his own uncleanness. It was in this context that Isaiah’s lips were cleansed and he was sent to proclaim God’s word.
God give us fresh vision, cleanse our lips so the message we proclaim is the pure gospel of the kingdom and send us out in power with that message into all the world.

Hello pastor David. I'm very hesitant on observing christain content, I have 4-5 christan youtubers I watch. After observing Jesus himself in the Bible. But I like this video u have done. Im not a bill johnson fan, but it is good he is admitting not all people he prays for will be healed. This is true. So thank u for this pastor David. I minister to a small group at a nursing home, so this video has helped in my ministry and I will clearly tell them that these are ur words not my own. So thank you fellow brother in christ!

Thank you David for this very balanced, detailed and important Biblical truth every Christian should know. Many Christians hold very extreme views on healing; believing that either God always heal if we have enough faith or that the age of healing has ceased and we should not pray for healing at all. Both views are disturbing and untrue.
Hi Pastor, I have talked to a Vietnamese church leader of All nation church in my country and they said that the people who Jesus didn't heal was minority and special situations like Paul and Timothy, Jesus heals the majority. Could you please share how I can defense in this situation? Thanks!
Thanks for the question. We don't always understand why God heals some and doesn't heal others, but we know that God is always good and always wise, and that He always does the right thing.
We need to believe that when God doesn't heal someone, He has very good reasons for it. I hope that this helps. Blessings!

Did not Jesus come to destroy all the works of the devil.
Did Jesus not say healing/deliverance was the children's bread to the Syrophonician woman. But she responded that even dogs get the crumbs that fall from the table.
Her faith made a difference.

Philippians 2:27 and 2Timothy 4:20 Paul had to leave 2 Disciples sick, WHY?? Nobody can answer??
We must accept the fact that God has his own reasons for not healing some people.
God has made unto every believer sanctification, this means that healing is always available as well, otherwise why the manifestations of 1 Corinthians 12:7-11.
Right Doctrine We are sanctified; we are being sanctified and we will be sanctified. As far as 1 Corinthians 12 is concerned, David explained this. He did not mention the book, chapter and verse, but he did answer it. If this is new to you, you may not be willing to take it in. Please believe me, this answer is the best explanation why I’ve had so many people thinking they are healers, pray over me. I’ve been disabled from a wrongly done back surgery for 11 years now. I am not healed, and it is NOT because I don’t have faith. That would be like blaming a child dropped at birth for spinal issues! You need to put your preconceived notions away and learn the truth. It will set you free.
@@jesusbeloved3953 I am sorry about what you have gone through and also sorry for what you have gone through via Bill Johnson's ministry too. But don't let the past bad experience stops you from believing that God can heal you. The sad fact is that sometimes when a sickness/condition has gone on for too long it becomes part of our identity. And past experiences can definitely build wrong foundations in our lives as well. How about in this life, he wants healing for every believer in the next life, but how about this one? Some people die and not get healed (physically) and I believe it has nothing to do with their faith.
The Bible clearly says that we are to pray for healing, but the Bible also shows us that sometimes God's plans and purposes are better accomplished when he doesn't heal us. The important thing for us a Christians is to believe that God always does what is best and good, even when we can't understand it.

So if one is not healed, what should one do.
We need to understand that God's ways are higher than our ways. We need to trust the Lord, not because we understand everything that He does, but because we understand who He is and that He loves us, and wants to draw us near to Him, and use us.
When a person is not healed, it can be difficult to maintain our focus upon the Lord, and not upon our suffering. May the lord grant each suffering person the ability, through His grace to focus on things which are eternal. As the Apostle Paul declared, His grace is sufficient.
Don't we now have the mind of Christ??? 1st Corinthians 2:16? We need to be careful in applying old covenant scripture that were meant for people who didn't have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as new testament believers now do. We are a new creation and have God in us. We are not gods but we are sons of God. None of the old testament believers were sons of God.
No one is healed believer or not.....this nonsense suffering is to have a role utter nonsense sorry.....I see no reason for suffering.......I agree once sick temporarily healing as we have to die some day...so once sick why ask....yet my pastor told me to so I did resurrection I do not know

The Bible tells us that when Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden, that death came into the world. We live in a fallen world, where sickness exists. Some food items have been so modified that they can cause illness. It would be hard to say that God chooses who gets sick and has disorders.
God's sovereignty is truly beyond our finding out. We know that sometimes he allows his saints to be sick our afflicted, as is seen in the life of the Apostle Paul.
2 Corinthians 12:7-10 tells us that God was more obviously manifested through Paul's life because of Paul's infirmities. In that case, God deliberately did not heal Paul, but it was for the better.

I'm sorry but the "infirmity" you are referring to was the "thorn on the side" there is nothing that says Paul was physically ill. In fact, if you do a word search on "thorns on the side" you will come to judges 2:3 where God is saying that if you don't wipe out the inhabitants, they would be a "thorn on your side". Also, Jesus healed all. Spiritual and physical healing is in the atonement.
