Shigeru Miyamoto says that he considers the Mario characters as a troupe of actors which explains why they can all have fun together but also be enemies.

I think that creators such as Miyamoto would be best off not talking about these topics at all, to keep the sense of mystery around these questions.

Yes I agree about Princess Peach not just being a damsel in distress. I personally believe that Princess Peach actually lets Bowser kidnap her and doesn't fight back for her people's safety. However I've seen a few exceptions to my theory. Princess Peach also never has any idea when and how Bowser will attack because Bowser has a new strategy every time His army invades the Mushroom Kingdom. And she always forgives him and forgets about it and is probably somewhat used to it by now. However She isn't useless, she can defend herself and is more often than the voice of reason in the mushroom kingdom(at least she is in some of the games).Why she even gives us presents and helpful hints during our journeys(even during some final boss fights and while being held captive no less! Not a lot of princesses guide you during your quest) So yes, I agree that Princess Peach is not useless or just a damsel in distress. She's a princess worth saving, a girl worth fighting for and is actually my favorite character in the whole Mario series.
When I was a kid, one of the first games I got was Mario Party 2 for the N64. I would always play as Peach because I loved princesses at the time and thought it was so cool you could play as one.
I believe you 100%, BUT you put one lie in there, SMB2 was a dream from Mario,
I always took Peach's role in Super Mario RPG as a good one. Sure she was a healer but she was a damn good healer, you really couldn't not have in your party without grinding to an insane degree to not need her healing.
Maybe all the Mario adventures are actually a TV show put on to keep the people of the mushroom kingdom entertained
Who has played Mario & Luigi Paper Jam? In one line Peach's says while being captured by Bowser she says that she's TIRED of being kidnapped! Have anyone ever heard that?
Thank you for doing this. Princess Peach is probably my favorite character in the Mario series, tied with Bowser and followed by Yoshi and Luigi.
I like to think that she says she's kidnapped, but in reality (as it were), she prefers to spend her time with Bowser.

Although I recognise her the use of her character has been problematic over the years I really like Princess Peach. I totally plan to buy her amiibo first. It's adorable.
After over thirty years it should be abundantly clear that it's all a game to them and nobody's kidnapping anybody. Peach gets herself into a 'vulnerable' position, Bowser 'kidnaps' her and Mario get to jump in to the 'rescue,'
A good laugh is had by all and they go karting or play tennis on the weekends. That in itself should be the give away that the whole thing's play acting...

I also imagined Princess Peach to be this way, there's no way a princess could be kidnapped so often, something's going on.
I want to write a story where Peach uses her kidnapping situations to settle diplomatic issues. Or, better, she goes to Bowser's castle for diplomatic reasons and Mario only assumes she's been kidnapped.
Have you read Brawl in the Family? It's a fan webcomic about the characters of the Super Smash Bros series, and while it isn't always brilliant and took a long time to find its form, it has some really nice moments which include Princess Peach overcoming her helplessness.
I don't know why Nintendo can't shake it up more often. Peach was a fighter in Super Mario Brothers 2, who also takes justice into her own hands in Super Princess Peach on the DS, then does more story wise in the RPGs.
My theory was that Peach is actually in a relationship with Bowser, and vice versa and they are putting on an act so that no-one figures out the truth and the only reason Marion get attacked by the defences of Bowser'Bowser's castle is because Bowser is scared of what Mario will do to him when he realises Peach is cheating on him.
Peach deserves all the blame for never telling Mario he needn't risk his life to interrupt her fake kidnapping play with Bowser. Peach has never been into Mario. Bowser is the man and that's why she's always getting kidnapped. It's a fetish.
It would be nice if they made a sequel to Super Princess Peach.

I honestly wish this wasn't a theory and was canon as I blame Nintendo for this endless shit routine of Bowser kidnapping Peach. It's that stubborn old man-grip Nintendo has on their franchise lore.

You kinda went off the rails there with the "Peach is a ravenous beast with the soul of a warrior" nonsense. She likes sports and games and parties, I don't really see how that makes her a "warrior." But I do agree that she could escape most of the things Bowser puts her in pretty easily. I assume that, if she keeps going back to him so often, Bowser must be keeping her on a shorter leash - literally - offscreen, but also keep in mind that she never really comes off as bratty. That's important, because she's too polite and demure to cause a fuss by being a brat. The polite damsel thing isn't an act, or a conflict of interest. Personally, if it were me, I wouldn't stand for a bunch of roomy cages with wide gaps and like a cartoony rope coil every once in a while. And I'm nowhere near as athletic as her! xD
Peach is not,what you'd call "a nice little princess"!She's a power hungry monarch,who would go over dead bodies to conquer as much land and get as much money as possible.She does terrible things behind the mushroom kingdoms back and if a toad finds out,they'll get tortured so long,until the are so distorted,that they have to wear cloaks and masks to hide their shame.Bowser,being all this obviously just wants the best for his world and his people and so,he kidnaps the princess and locks her away,hoping that she'll never break free.However,Mario and Luigi,even though they know,what's going on,they keep saving her,because thei're getting paid for it,so they can keep up their poor existence.Ever seen how small and just lack-of-everything the toads and even the Mario bros. houses are?They keep living with that and worship their ruler,so they don't end up as Shy Guys as well!
